I am not sure if this has been done recently, but I’m interested in compiling a list of the most popular names here on Nameberry. :]
So if you don’t mind, I’d like you to list your top ten names (not combinations, just single names) so I can make a list out of them and post that in a couple of weeks.
Spelling variations will be counted as separate names for ease of counting but I may make a combined list too.
I thought it was harder to get girls names than boys! More choice maybe
In no particular order…
Girls:
[name]January[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Mayim[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]
[name]Ksenia[/name]
[name]Zara[/name]
[name]Nell[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
Mine changes a lot too, but as of right now:
[name]Annabella[/name]
[name]Sofia[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Chiara[/name]
[name]Sabina[/name]
[name]Raquel[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name] or [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Sally[/name]… can’t decide!
the girls change a LOT!
[name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Julius[/name] nn [name]Jules[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] nn [name]Nate[/name]
Girls were a struggle because I love so many beautiful names; boys were a struggle because it’s hard to find ten boys names that I like!(as irisrose and others said, as well)
[name]Just[/name] letting you all know, when you give several answers, eg: 10. [name]Jane[/name] / [name]Julia[/name] / [name]Bella[/name], I pick the first answer given. This is to make it easier on me when collating and so it’s fair on everyone :]
Thank you all for doing this! I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Skimming these lists, it’s apparent that the very, very few my DH and I both like are really going somewhere. Sigh.
Looks like there’s a lot more variability in the boy list so far. That is not something I would expect.
Elowen, I have a couple of suggestions for what would be interesting. First, one list counting each spelling and variant separately, and then another that counts all the variants together - for example, there’s only one [name]Genevieve[/name], but there are lots of [name]Cecelia[/name] variants; counting the variants together reveals more. Second, it would be interesting to do this again in a couple of months or so to see how the average moves. I think sometimes berries’ likes reflect the emergent trends of a few years from now, but I also think that sometimes a name generates a little buzz on here not because it’s a true berry favorite, but simply because someone had mentioned it, then someone else took note of it and mentioned it again, etc., and it’s on everyone’s minds since it sounds fresh relative to more common berry favorites. I don’t know if that made any sense at all, but it did in my head.
