Nameless baby

Due in [name_u]December[/name_u] and we don’t know the gender. Has anyone else struggled so much with names?
Nothing feels right, I asked another person’s opinion about a name my husband and I like and they immediately critiqued it. Now nothing feels “right”.

[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to Nameberry. Congratulations!

If the name has meaning to you, still consider it.

If there are no names that hold meaning to you for someone you know (honor name), consider looking at a name that relates to something important to you. If you were married during the summer, maybe [name_f]Suvi[/name_f] or a month name. Maybe the gemstone of a month important for you. Another approach may be to choose a flower or plant name if you love the outdoors. [name_m]Even[/name_m] a flower in your bouquet at your wedding. If you and your husband love sports, the theatre, movies or books, maybe choose the name of your favorite athlete, actor, author, etc.

There’s always going to be somebody who dislikes a name. Is the other person whose opinion you asked very important to you? For example, your parents’ opinions are probably more valuable than what a random coworker thinks of the name you like.

I think you should still consider the name you both like, unless the person had a valid concern (for example, if they told you it reminded them of a swear word or something, that’s very different than “I just don’t like it.”)

I know that Nameberry users would be happy to help suggest names you may like! If you give us an idea of your style, we’d be happy to help!

Ah naming is sooooooo hard!!!

I was told by some lovely people on nameberry to keep names a surprise and just share them with person your naming the child/to yourself. Ultimately everyone has an opinion and does it really matter that your neighbour doesn’t like your name choice. If you & your partner like it then go for it.

If you need to start from scratch look at honour names are there people in your family who you want to honour. Let’s say you have Grandma [name_f]Christine[/name_f] but not keen on [name_f]Christine[/name_f] you could look at variants like [name_u]Christie[/name_u], [name_f]Chrissy[/name_f], [name_f]Christiana[/name_f] or [name_f]Christina[/name_f]. Alternatively look at names that share the same meaning so for example [name_f]Christine[/name_f] means follower of [name_m]Christ[/name_m] as does [name_f]Krista[/name_f]. If you don’t have honour names that fit the bill try and take inspiration from stuff that means a lot to you for example if you were married in [name_u]June[/name_u] you could name your baby [name_u]June[/name_u]. Or if your husband is a [name_f]February[/name_f] baby you could honour him and name your child [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]. If your not finding inspiration from that you could potentially look at different cultures for example if you love [name_f]Italy[/name_f]/Italian culture you could look at the names in the top ten for that particular country.

Try not to stress you will find the perfect name!

I wouldn’t say Bennson is spelled "wrong"but it is unexpected. I mean if I was told the name over the phone I would spell it [name_m]Benson[/name_m] unless the person spelled it out. So if you dont want you /him to have to do that it’s something to consider. But I do really like [name_m]Benson[/name_m]/Bennson [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and also [name_m]Benson[/name_m]/Bennson [name_u]Hayes[/name_u], also I like it with [name_f]Hadlee[/name_f].

I’m wondering if you like double letters, since [name_f]Hadlee[/name_f] and [name_u]Reese[/name_u] both have double ee and Bennson has the double nn. If that’s true, maybe look for names with a double letter? The first coming to my mind are [name_m]Bennet[/name_m], [name_u]Brennan[/name_u], [name_u]Barret[/name_u], [name_m]Garret[/name_m], [name_u]Connor[/name_u], [name_m]Collin[/name_m], [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m]/Kenny, [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]…

Thank you! Me and my sisters have double letter names. My name is super common and my sisters are not. I guess the constant correction of name spelling is something to consider
