Namer, Name Thyself!

I have a modest proposal.

Since we are presumably name-crazy (at least I am and I suspect some others are too), here are a few ideas for extending our mania to include ourselves.

  1. My husband grew up Irish Catholic in San [name_m]Francisco[/name_m]* and it was a tradition for children (at least boys, maybe girls too) to choose a “third name” or a [name_m]Saint[/name_m]'s name as a teenager. He chose [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] for his, which is a much nicer, softer name than his middle: [name_m]John[/name_m]. I’m not Catholic nor am I recommending that anyone convert, but it would be cool to give oneself a third name. Unless you already have one? I don’t so I added one. A lovely, adventuresome alpine name.

  2. Not to sound like the book and TV movie [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] (70’s, right?) about the woman with was it 16 separate selves, but I do think many of us have alter egos, or different sections of our full self. I also came across one of those as I was writing the merry, bouncy names thread and I am IN [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] WITH IT! It is so cheery and energetic and vigorous that it has actually allowed me to be more this way myself.

I find all this quite fun, though I do know such things sound wacko to people more into birds or figurines than names!

Any other wackos out there?

*Maybe a Catholic tradition world-wide? Not sure. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) there were many saints for him to choose among.
