'Namer' trends?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! Random question time …
Has anyone else ever not been able to get into a particular ‘namer’ name trend?

For me it’s last names as first names. I just don’t like how they flow yet everyone else seems to love names like [name_u]Hudson[/name_u],[name_m]Beckett[/name_m],[name_m]Coleman[/name_m] etc

Anyone?

Boy names on girls. This includes surnames and those names that are historically masculine that people claim sound ‘girly’ aka unisex names. [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_u]Cameron[/name_u], etc. they are boy names, let them be boy names.

Botanical names aren’t really my style, even if there are a couple on my list. [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], etc. seem to be pretty popular on here, and I can see the allure, but I personally don’t dig them.

I’ve never been a fan of ‘Filler’ names… Or names like [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f] etc. Saying that - if the name is being used because they love the name I dont mind. Its when they are just used because they simply ‘flow’ better or you cant think of anything else.

I also dont understand the people wanting and asking for uncommon and unusual names… but then choosing the ones that are everywhere - like [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], [name_m]Asher[/name_m] etc. To me if you want uncommon - you might as well go very old fashioned and obscure.

I guess, for me, it is the “trend” of suddenly wanting to use really obscure names just so that your child will not be one of many in a classroom. I get not wanting your kid to be [name_f]Emma[/name_f] S. her whole school career, or having 6 [name_u]Michael[/name_u]'s on your block so not wanting to add another one. However, I’ve seen some parents on here who forsake names they love for some less-popular name, in the name of uniqueness. I think that parents should somewhat take popularity into account if it matters to them, but not decide to settle for a “second-best” name. If that makes sense at all…

the trend I don’t get is definitely obscure mythological names - I just can’t imagine a child walking into their first day of kindergarten and introducing themselves to their friends as [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] or [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] or [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] or [name_m]Perseus[/name_m]. I also can’t picture being a teenager and saying “hi, my name’s [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]”. I know a lot of people say the same about the names I like too, but sometimes I feel like some names fit in a little better than others.

For me it’s what I call occupation names - [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], etc - and also names that are outdoorsy to the point of ridiculousness - Wilde® and [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] in particular

Old lady names! [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], etcetera. I know they’re in vogue right now, but they’re just nms. If they make me think of my grandma, they’re not for me.

Single syllable names. There is nothing inherently wrong with them, but having had a single syllable surname my entire life, single syllable names just sound so abrupt. Two of my brothers even have single syllable names, but I just can’t get past how abrupt they sound.

I agree with one of the above posters: why would you name a child that is currently on the rise and then said child will have to use their last initial to identify themselves like [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_u]Michael[/name_u] had.

Obscure nature names. Some I think have more potential than others, but I can’t imagine calling a child something like [name_u]Oak[/name_u] or [name_u]Harbor[/name_u].
