Namer's remorse relapse

we named our daughter katherine genevieve and renamed her jillian at the last minute. now that we’re thinking about names for #2, i’m stressing about this last minute decision all over again. i still think jillian is a sweet, spunky name, but some times i wish i didn’t make that last minute switch. mother in law constantly butchering pronunciation doesn’t help! thanks for all of your support, you’ve been sooo helpful!

It’s a lovely name!!! She will love it - don’t feel bad or the need to change it. My name is [name]Eliza[/name], which seems very basic to pronounce, but there is always going to be that one person who doesn’t get it. I think [name]Jillian[/name] is very easy to pronounce and don’t think over time she’ll have issues.

I think [name]Jillian[/name] is a great name, and very easy to pronounce. I’m [name]Kristin[/name], which I think is pretty straightforward, but you should hear some of the variations I get! One of the teachers I work with constantly calls me [name]Christian[/name], she just can’t get it right. So I think you’ll have that problem no matter what name you choose. When you wrote that people pronounce it “[name]Jilly[/name]-an” I’m a little confused about that though, since that phonetic spelling looks correct. Unless you are pronouncing it like “[name]Jill[/name]-yin”?

that was a typo, i meant jill-yan

I think this could be clarified as the difference between jill-ee-an (the normal pronunciation) and jill-yan. Actually, didn’t you point this out before - was it in the [name]William[/name] thread?

I think you should feel good about the name [name]Jillian[/name]. I like it a lot, it’s less common than Kathering, and it really seems very straightforward to pronounce (mother-in-laws withstanding)

I am having some of the same naming stress that you are having. We chose a name for our son, but then I changed my mind while I was in labor and then he REALLY didn’t look lilke that name anyways after I looked at him. So we went back to a name that we had on our short list earlier.

Now I am pregnant with #2, a girl, and we have chosen to name her [name]Jillian[/name]! I love the name and have liked it the whole pregnancy. But now I am nervous that I will change my mind again at the last minute. Yesterday I bought wooden letters that spell [name]Jillian[/name] to put up on her wall. So now I am commited, right?!? LOL. We do have a back up name picked out just in case.

I didn’t think there could be issues with pronouncing [name]Jillian[/name]. But I am sure that my [name]MIL[/name] will also say it wrong, or worse, make up a silly nn like she did with my son. Luckily the silly nn doesn’t get used anymore now that he is 2. I think I may have issues with some of my family just calling her [name]Jill[/name]. Not horrible, but I like [name]Jillian[/name] a lot better.

Good luck! To be safe you could pick out two names you love then decide which fits her better after she is born.
