Have you ever had “name dreams” ?
I’ve heard of a few people who have named their child after dreaming up the name, even if it wasn’t a name they had considered before.
This woman I know dreamt of a little girl, aged about 7, called [name]Celestine[/name] when she was pregnant, and so when the kid turned out to be a girl that’s what she named her, as she was so convinced that name was meant to be.
What do you think?
I had a really vivid dream last year where I was holding a beautiful giggling todler named [name]Frida[/name].
It actually made me like the name, when I didn’t before ( even though I wouldn’t use it).
I dreamt of a child named [name]Zuleika[/name], recently, and wasn’t even aware that it was a real name before I googled it. Crazy subconscious of mine…
[name]Jeb[/name] and [name]Shyla[/name] both came to me in dreams.
About 6 years ago, my aunt was pregnant with a little boy. She had never brought up the name [name]Jeb[/name], nor had it ever crossed MY mind, but for some reason I dreamed that I was holding my new little cousin [name]Jeb[/name] and I woke up loving the name. If I could convince my husband to love it too, we’d be set for a boy’s name. (My aunt named her son [name]Jared[/name].)
A few months ago I dreamed that I had this AMAZING job of naming abandoned newborns as they were brought into the foster care system. I named the first girl [name]Shyla[/name], a name that had NEVER crossed my mind in real life (I think I spelled it Shila in the dream). Since that dream, I’ve run the name past my husband and [name]Shyla[/name] is now one of our top favorite girl names–I’d say it’s in the top five.
I had a dream last year sometime that I had 5/6 children, all but one were named from my favourite names but the second youngest was called [name]Finnegan[/name] - and the dream revolved around him and his ambition to learn to play the trumpet (even though he was only five!). Since having that dream [name]Finnegan[/name] has appeared on my list and I’ve grown to love it
I had a dream in college that I had a baby named [name]Danielle[/name]. I used it as the daughter’s name in what I was writing but didn’t consider using it on a future child of my own.
In one of my dreams, I had a boy named [name]Brian[/name]. I have no idea why though! Now I sorta like it. I never thought the name was appealing prior to my dream.
My uncle had one of these. My aunt is pregnant and he said that God told him in a dream to name their daughter [name]Amber[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]. I personally hope it’s a boy.
Maybe it’s all the name searching I’ve been doing but I had a dream the other night about 2 little girls. [name]One[/name] was named [name]Felicity[/name] and one named [name]Francine[/name]. They were walking up the church steps all dressed in pink, bonnets and all! When I told hubby he said well, they could be put on the table for now. We’ll see??
Recently I dreamed that a man named [name]Cobalt[/name] was leading me into the center of a pyramid.
When I was a kid I had recurring dreams about a witch named Owla.
When I was pregnant with my second I had a dream that I had a little girl and named her Jaiyana [name]Java[/name]. We named her [name]Kaia[/name] [name]Avalon[/name]. With my last one I had a couple name dreams. [name]One[/name] was about a set of mixed-race twins named Alleyaiesha and Atreyu. The other one was a slightly futuristic dream where we had six or seven kids (I was only pregnant with #4 at the time), the youngest ones were Taylee-[name]Rose[/name], [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Meadow[/name], [name]Asher[/name] Draeson, and [name]Lyric[/name] [name]Acacia[/name]. We did name our baby Taylee-[name]Rose[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] was our boy pick (still is), and now [name]Lyric[/name] is my #1 girls’ name. The rest of the names I’m just kinda “eh” on.
I’ve never heard of name dreams! It’s definitely interesting, but I don’t think that I would name a baby because of a dream unless I fell in love with said name completely.
Totally have! I used to dream that I woke up in a bed beside a dream husband, and he was holding a baby girl that looked about three, four months old. He looked at me, smiled, then said “look [name]Kimberly[/name], mommy’s awake!”
It was always such a vivid dream, and I used to have it SO frequently. [name]Kimberly[/name] became a name I love
I had an intensely vivid, prophetic-feeling dream when I was 15, about giving birth on top of a mountain to a boy. This is going to sound totally bizarre, but in my dream God was there, helping me bring this child into the world. I named him [name]Zion[/name], the mountain of God, and this is the name I plan to give my firstborn son.
I’ve dreamed other names ([name]Conrad[/name] and [name]Ulrich[/name]), but nothing like the [name]Zion[/name] dream!
I never, ever have representational dreams. They’re mostly like [name]Emma[/name]'s, with mystic pyramid guides. But this week I dreamed I had a second son named [name]Gordon[/name] (!), which after all my time on nameberry you’d think there would be better names flitting around my subconscious.
Nah, [name]Blade[/name], I think [name]Gordon[/name] would be the best name for your future child.
I had a pregnancy dream where my daughter’s name was [name]Laurel[/name]… I did read a book at the moment with a character by this name in it though, so I didn’t put too much emphasis on it. I usually have random weird dreams, ala [name]Emma[/name]'s pyramid thing too. Nothing like Sessha’s [name]Zion[/name] dream (seriously, she described it in a former dream thread, and I was blown away!).
I had a very vivid dream where I had a daughter and a son. My SO was changing the baby boys diaper upstairs when I heard a little girl run in and wrap her arms around my neck. He called down her name, [name]Emmeline[/name]. I always liked the name but that dream definitely influenced my love for it because she was the most adorable little girl.
It’s the only dream I’ve ever had of myself, at least. My subconscious has had a lot of fun with names in the past though! [name]Just[/name] this past week I dreamt my brother and [name]SIL[/name] had a baby girl named Nephemina. Also dreamt a poster on this forum had a girl named Wolfpack.
@sleepysessha- What an amazing dream! That would be a really incredible story to tell possible future baby boy.
Yikes – emma and blade … stay away from the pyramids!! J/k; my dreams are usually very weird as well. Last night I dreamt about my mechanic and now my husband is constantly joking about my “affair” with him. I hope I don’t have to take my car in any time soon!
[name]Ah[/name], name dreams. I read about name dreams when I was pregnant and I DESPERATELY wanted to have one because we couldn’t decide on a name. That’s probably why I didn’t have one – because I went to bed each night hoping a dream would somehow light upon the one name we couldn’t find that was perfect for our son. Didn’t happen. Maybe with the next one!
There’s an old wives tale about curing nightmares by telling yourself “don’t think about bunnies, don’t think about bunnies, don’t think about bunnies” before you go to sleep. Supposedly the more desperately you try not to think about bunnies, the more likely you are to dream of them. Maybe the same thing will work with names!
otter/bre - it was really intense! it’s also one of the only dreams that years later I can still remember just as vividly.
I had a dream several months ago that my husband named our son Pumpkin (because his head was shaped like a pumpkin) and his middle name was Goodn’… because he was a “good one!” I was soo mad! Lol needless to say I will NOT be using that name should we become pregnant.
