My husband and I are having a boy and really like the name [name_m]Miles[/name_m]. Only thing holding us back is last name ends in an S as well. Is there any kind of unspoken rule against doing this. The possessive form of [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is already hard enough for me to remember the rules.
Well the most famous [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m] and I think his name sounds pretty cool It’s not a big deal. Pick the name you love and you won’t regret it!
This! 100% this
Honestly, I think it would be a bigger deal if your last name started with S. Then they might blend together a bit. But [name_m]Miles[/name_m] __s works perfectly fine. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is a lovely choice, and I think repeated endings can sound really cool (like [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m] does). Seriously, start paying attention to how many people have double endings… I have encountered quite a lot!
As someone who has both a first name and a surname that ends in -s I can say it has never really been a problem except with my middle school principal who had a lisp. As long as they flow well, I don’t think it matters.
I agree with this.
My name and surnames (maiden and married) end with the same letter. My son’s, my brother’s, and my mom’s (with married surname) all do too. Never an issue.
