I am writing a story with 2 sisters who have been orphaned by their parents in a car accident.
I have a list of names but no idea what to name them.
The oldest is 7, shoulder length blonde hair, blue eyes, funny, kind and caring.
The youngest is 5, light brown hair, blue eyes, shy, quiet, but fun and friendly.
Some more choices:
For the older sister:
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
For the younger sister:
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (with some nickname)
I think the link Sweet Southern Girl Names | Nameberry given by @notproper sums up the naming style most of your picks are so far. You could try looking around for more southern-sounding names.
It might help to let us know what type of story you’re writing.
I know for me, it’s easier choosing names after I’ve gone through all of my story basics (themes, genre, plot, etc.) and worldbuilding. This way you can get a vague sense of who your characters are (if you already haven’t come up with them) and find names that fit with the story, if that makes any sense. Because I generally write science-fiction, I tend to cater towards names that are uncommon yet vaguely familiar, with a slight mythological vibe to them. I’m also a big nerd when it comes to hidden meanings and things that are symbolic, so while I look for names that fit those first categories, I also watch out for any with meanings that sort of fit the theme of my story or a certain character.
