We’re TTC, and I’d like to pick out some potential names for a girl (boys’ names are easier at the moment). I’m looking for something to complement the sweet, delicate, ballerina-like name of our daughter, [name]Elise[/name]. Many of the names on the Ballerina Names List on Nameberry (e.g., [name]Allegra[/name]) are way too much for me, though; nothing over-the-top, please. Our sons are [name]James[/name] and [name]William[/name] ([name]Will[/name]). Also, it would be great if it didn’t start with the letter E.
Our top choice at the moment is [name]Natalie[/name] (which is also a family name, as are our other kids’ names), but I’m annoyed that it is terribly popular. Top choice would have been [name]Anna[/name] (another family name), but it’s our daughter’s BFF’s name!
Thanks for your suggestions and for helping us think outside the box of family names!
For me [name]Violet[/name], [name]Sylvia[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Stella[/name], [name]Mara[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], and [name]Gemma[/name] come to mind.
[name]Natalie[/name] is sweet, but doesn’t have the same charm as [name]Elise[/name] does in my opinion.
Names I would pair with [name]Elise[/name]:
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] (sweeter than [name]Claire[/name], I think)
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Leona[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Hope[/name] you find what you’re looking for
Some good suggestions already. Of the ones suggested, I like [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]. [name]Both[/name] complement [name]Elise[/name] really well. I also like [name]Natalie[/name] BTW!
Thanks so much, everyone. grackym, I like [name]Clara[/name] a lot. It was actually the name of my husband’s great-grandmother. Now, to convince my husband to love it, too…
As a sister for [name]Elise[/name], [name]Clara[/name] was the first name that came to mind for me too. I also love [name]Natalie[/name], [name]Sylvia[/name], and [name]Claire[/name] on your list.
Editing to add: [name]Christina[/name] is nice, but the long e sound in the accented syllable, as it is in [name]Elise[/name], makes saying their names together very E heavy. Names like [name]Natalie[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name] are fine in that regard because the long Es are not in the accented syllables. I recommend [name]Clara[/name] first and foremost though.
Thanks again for your help, ladies (and gents, if there are any on here).
Everwaiteing, that’s a good point about [name]Christina[/name]. Meso, [name]Lydia[/name] is another lovely one that my husband dislikes for some reason; I think it has to do with the Beetlejuice movie. Grr.
I am still very bummed about not really being able to use [name]Anna[/name]. Maybe as a middle, though.
[name]Elise[/name] is such a sweet name! Since [name]Anna[/name] is your true love name, I say go
With [name]Annabel[/name] nickname [name]Annie[/name]. But might be a bit too much for you? In that case I like the suggestion of [name]Clara[/name], very much so
[name]Even[/name] though [name]Clara[/name] seems like a perfect fit to me, if you love [name]Anna[/name], then go with that name (or whichever name) will bring you the most joy, regardless of the sibset issue. (My teenaged daughter says that her very favorite girl’s name is [name]Anna[/name], which was very unexpected for me to hear. She says she might extend it to [name]Annabelle[/name] or [name]Julianna[/name] for a future daughter, but she really loves [name]Anna[/name] the most.)
I love the name [name]Elise[/name] (we’re expecting girl #4 and I’d love to go with [name]Eloise[/name] but it’s too close to one of my other daughter’s names…).
[name]Clara[/name] is such a beautiful name that would fit well, of course, as I see mentioned. I also thought of [name]Giselle[/name] (very close to [name]Gisselle[/name], one of my daughters’ names), also a ballet.
If you have any recommendations for a sister to [name]Celia[/name], [name]Gisselle[/name], and [name]Anneliese[/name], I’d love to hear them btw
