Names for an Odd Last Name

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! Pregnant here. Last name is Mumma… we have some that we both like but don’t want to be married to them yet. For a boy we are thinking [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], and for a girl [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. Other than those I like [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] for a boy but feel it doesn’t flow well. I absolutely love [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], or [name_u]Markie[/name_u] for a girl but dad says he’s not in love. Any suggestions?

[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] both work. I agree, unfortunately, that [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] does sound a bit like Brook’s Momma. You’d want to say [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] slowly so it doesn’t sound like Malcumummuh. Alternatively, you could name him [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and call him [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. But that doesn’t really remove the need to say the names slowly, I guess.

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] or [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] also work.

But Markie… I’m not feeling it. It sounds like a childhood nickname for a boy named [name_m]Mark[/name_m] (who would then try to remove any reference to said nickname upon reaching the age of 9). And that just makes it worse for a girl, especially as a full name, IMO.

You have two great first options. And some good back-ups, if DH comes around.

Congrats on [name_u]Baby[/name_u]!

[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] work well and are great names

Some ideas:

Beckett/Beck

[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]

I would worry about the ms running together with [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] too, but [name_f]Corrinne[/name_f] is divine.

[name_f][/name_f][name_u]Vinnie[/name_u]
[name_f][/name_f][name_u]Vivien[/name_u]

I think [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] is a bit too M-heavy, mainly because it ends with M and would blend into the surname. [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] works well though!

[name_f][/name_f]

For a boy I wonder if any of the following might appeal (some remind me of [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and some remind me of Brooks):

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Mitchell[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_u]Beckett[/name_u], [name_u]Beckham[/name_u], or [name_u]Beck[/name_u]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Booker[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f][/name_f][name_u]Blake[/name_u]

[name_f][/name_f]

And maybe [name_u]Briar[/name_u], which I prefer for girls but which can be used for boys too.
