Names for first baby girl! Opinions please!

Hello! This is my first baby and I’m really excited. However, the name thing has been a lot harder than I ever imagined. I finally have come up with a few that I’m happy with but I’d like some feedback. I’ll give a little background to each one.

[name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name] - [name]Vivian[/name] is my grandmothers mn and [name]James[/name] is my dads mn.

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Dell[/name] - [name]Josephine[/name] is a family name and [name]Dell[/name] is my grandpas name whom I adore.

[name]Emmaline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] - [name]Will[/name] call her [name]Emmylou[/name] after my favorite singer, [name]Emmylou[/name] [name]Harris[/name].

I like old lady names but I don’t usually like two girly names together (like [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], it’s too much for me). I didn’t want to use just [name]Emmylou[/name] because that might be harder if she wants a more professional name like [name]Emmaline[/name] :). So I broke my own rule with the last one but come on it’s [name]Emmylou[/name]! I think [name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name] sounds the strongest which is important to me and [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Dell[/name] is after my grandpa so it’s pretty special too. I don’t really care for the nicknames like [name]Viv[/name] or [name]Josie[/name] though.

I like [name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Emmaline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] (and I adore [name]Emmylou[/name] [name]Harris[/name]!). I’m less keen on [name]Josephine[/name], and I’d probably go for the French spelling of [name]Vivienne[/name] w/[name]James[/name] (which I like, though I expect to be in the minority on this site).

[name]Love[/name] [name]Emmylou[/name] - also gives her the option to just use [name]Emma[/name] or [name]Emmaline[/name] if she prefers

[name]Emmaline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] is my favourite from your list, though I prefer the spelling [name]Emmeline[/name]. [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Dell[/name] comes second and [name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name] third. I prefer the [name]Vivienne[/name] spelling to [name]Vivian[/name].

I love [name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name]!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]James[/name] or even [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Dell[/name]. And I, too, think this spelling is much prettier than [name]Vivian[/name] In fact, [name]Vivienne[/name] is my #1 for my own second daughter’s name so far.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name]! [name]Vivien[/name] is actually my fave spelling, followed by [name]Vivienne[/name]. Prefer both to [name]Vivian[/name]…

I agree [name]Emmylou[/name] is darling! Also much prefer the elegant [name]Emmeline[/name] spelling!

I’ve recently started liking [name]Josie[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name], but if you aren’t feeling it, nix it! [name]Josephine[/name] could be [name]Joey[/name], Seph, [name]Fifi[/name], or [name]Posey[/name], too.

For Grandpa [name]Dell[/name], maybe try [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adela[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], or [name]Adeline[/name]. Loving [name]Adeline[/name] [name]James[/name]! She could go by [name]Addie[/name] [name]Jem[/name] or [name]Della[/name] [name]Jay[/name]!

[name]How[/name] many syllables are in your last name and what’s the first initial? It would be great if each part of the name had differing syllable counts.

You may also look at under Name Images a few list. The few that come to mind are the Old Lady names, Puritan names, and Ancient names lists.

[name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name] sounds lovely! I adore the combination of a classic, feminine first name with a solid, masculine middle. I understand what others are saying about the gorgeous French spelling of [name]Vivienne[/name], but if the [name]Vivian[/name] spelling has family significance, I’d stick with that. It’s beautiful, regardless.

[name]Love[/name] the [name]Emmylou[/name] idea…too cute! And yet wearable as an adult

With [name]Josephine[/name] you could use the nns [name]Posy[/name] and [name]Effie[/name]. I prefer the [name]Emmeline[/name] spelling. I could definitely see [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Vivian[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] as sisters. Your combos are lovely as well.

I love all three first names, but my favorite combination today is [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Dell[/name]. I think [name]Dell[/name] is a wonderful balance to [name]Josephine[/name] and gender-neutral.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]! I think [name]Emmylou[/name] is cute, but I am not a fan of [name]Emmaline[/name].

I do like [name]Adelaide[/name] but my cousin named his daughter [name]Adelaide[/name] and they call her [name]Addie[/name]. Then my cousin on the other side named her daughter [name]Attie[/name] [name]Jo[/name]. So I can’t do the [name]Addie[/name]/[name]Attie[/name] names, very cute though!

[name]One[/name] syllable and it starts with R. I think the syllable idea is good. [name]Emmaline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] would be 3-2-1 the other two would be 3-1-1

I agree! I will definitely keep all three in mind if I have more girls!

I love all 3 names. Simply lovely. A name I thought would go nice would be [name]Jamie[/name] [name]Adele[/name]. But I don’t think you can go wrong with any of your names.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Emmaline[/name] [name]James[/name].

I love the name [name]Josephine[/name] and it offers just as many nickname options as [name]Emmaline[/name] (i.e., nns that have not been previously listed – Sephie and [name]Jo[/name]). In thinking about your grandfather, [name]Della[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] came to mind. That would be a 2-3-1 combination. Of course, you would have to like the name [name]Della[/name]. Personally, I also love the name [name]Emmaline[/name], but [name]Emma[/name] has become way too popular for my liking so I tend to lean toward the rarer names. I have never cared for the name [name]Vivian[/name], but that’s a personal preference (and [name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name] is actually a 3-1-1 combo  ).

I really love [name]Vivian[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Dell[/name]. [name]Emmeline[/name]/[name]Emmaline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] is lovely, although I really think it’s unrealistic to expect a child/adolescent/teenager to want to go by [name]Emmylou[/name]. If you do want to call her that, though, [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] is a great way to get there while giving her options.
