Names for Ondine and Eudora's Sister

We’re at a complete loss for our third daughter’s name. My husband and I have been struggling with committing and loving names - any name. It feels as though we’ve completely used up our name creativity.

The plan was to honor his aunts [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] and [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] and we have figured that out, more or less, by agreeing on [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-Leen for middle name, but are completely out of ideas for first name. It was also our intention to honor my mama, but since she despises her name and the thing that most defines her is her sewing, knitting and crafts, we tried to find something related to that… but reached a big nothing. I really liked [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but my husband hates it and so really we don’t know where else to look.

I hate to seem whiny and I know there are millions of names out there, but it’s just very hard this time, which is why I felt the need to look for some outside help here on Nameberry.

The first thing that came to mind was [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f].

I think it would be nice to fit another vowel name in there, though it’s certainly not necessary.

[name_f]Eudora[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Ursula[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]

[name_f]Zosia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Artemesia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Orinthia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] (if it doesn’t bother you to have two O names)
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Umbrielle[/name_f] (I like this better than [name_f]Umbrielle[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Umbrielle[/name_f] goes great with big sisters)
[name_f]Agata[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]

I love your daughter’s names!

I love the pps suggestion of [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]! If you don’t quite love that, I also like the variation [name_f]Ursuline[/name_f]. Or there’s the similar [name_f]Ursa[/name_f].

I don’t think your “whiny” at all, just because you’ve searched and haven’t managed to come up with any name you really love! It happens to people all the time! I really hope you manage to find something you love. I adore [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] by the way, such a cool, rare name!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestion of [name_f]Ursa[/name_f]! [name_f]Eudora[/name_f], [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], and [name_f]Ursa[/name_f] is just perfect!!

Weirdly, my first thought was [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] too! It fits really well with your other girls’ names.

I’m sorry for not replying to your post in the last thread, I could’ve sworn I did! My bad! I really like some of your suggestions: [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f], [name_f]Althea[/name_f], [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I adore [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], but my husband has a hard time pronouncing it because of all the r’s, so he makes it sound ridiculous :eyeroll:
I also really love [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], but with a [name_f]Eudora[/name_f] it kind of feels repetitive and we already call [name_f]Eudora[/name_f] [name_f]Dora[/name_f] for short already…

Thank you for taking your time to respond and compile this great list. Now it’s up for my husband to see if any of these names strikes his fancy.

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is beauiful, I adore it, but I don’t think it flows very well with [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]… Something we will have to discuss.

A lot of you suggested [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] and someone even [name_f]Ursuline[/name_f], but I just can’t come to like it or find it pretty, so I’m afraid that one is out.

[name_f]Eudora[/name_f], [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], and [name_u]Nike[/name_u]

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]

Here are some suggestions of unique names I thought could fit. I tried to find names with nice meanings ~

[name_f]Twila[/name_f] = woven with a double thread. (Sewing connection!)
[name_f]Terra[/name_f] = earth.
[name_f]Tivona[/name_f] = lover of nature.
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f] = hope.
[name_f]Asha[/name_f] = hope or life.
[name_f]Zahira[/name_f] = helper, supporter.

[name_f]Alaia[/name_f] = joyful, happy. (In my mind, this could be a connection to your nana. Knitting and crafts are what bring her joy.)

[name_f]Zahara[/name_f] = to shine or flower. (Arts and crafts are the way she shines.)

[name_f]Artemesia[/name_f]
[name_f]Winola[/name_f]
[name_f]Calantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f]

Good luck!

I also immediately thought of [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]! The name is beautiful (although perhaps tainted by The [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid) and has a cute meaning of little bear. I suggest Ursia for short.
What about…
[name_f]Christabel[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]

I found a few more that could work. First, I thought that “[name_u]Peace[/name_u]” could be a nice tie in to sewing and crafts. That is her place of peace and contentment. I also love the meaning “Life.” Crafting is a significant and meaningful part of her life. Also, your daughter will bring new life. And you hope that your daughter finds meaning, passion, and purpose in her own life. Here are my ideas ~

[name_f]Arcadia[/name_f] = region offering peace and contentment.
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] = peaceful.
[name_f]Iria[/name_f] = peace.
Sakina = peace.
[name_f]Zaina[/name_f] = beauty, grace.
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] = wonderful. ([name_f]Mira[/name_f] could also come from Mirela, [name_f]Miranda[/name_f], or [name_f]Miriam[/name_f].)
[name_f]Viviana[/name_f] = life.
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] or [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] = life.

[name_f]Viveca[/name_f] = alive, life; place of refuge. (My favorite name for you! It is unique and spunky, has a really interesting sound, and has a gorgeous meaning that could connect to your nana.)

Here are a couple more options…

[name_f]Carina[/name_f] = dear little one.
[name_f]Roxana[/name_f] or [name_f]Roxanna[/name_f] = little star.
[name_f]Adelpha[/name_f] = beloved sister.
[name_f]Anissa[/name_f] = friendly.

Good luck!

@dream.create, I have to really thank you for being so kind and thoughtful in your suggestions. I think you’ve been dedicating yourself to this a lot more than my own husband!

I love the suggestions of [name_f]Alaia[/name_f], [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] and [name_f]Twila[/name_f] (this one the most do to it’s intertwining meaning which does have a lot to do with what my mama does). From your second reply I just love [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Viveca[/name_f], because they speak a lot of what I feel my mother is to me: what brought me life, my refuge and the most wonderful person in my life. So thank you!

I really liked @gildedfairyx’s suggestions of [name_f]Indira[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sabina[/name_f], and [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] which reminded me of [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] which is a favorite name. Thank you!

I like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] with [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]. I think those would also work with the names of your other daughters.

I wouldn’t go with NB’s meaning on [name_f]Twila[/name_f]. Behind the Name, which researches their names, lists the meaning as unknown, but possibly being related to twilight or star. Be careful choosing a name based on its meaning since it’s actually something you’re taking into consideration. All the names I suggested to you were from BtN and mythology sites.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] might fit the sewing, knitting and crafts theme; Frigg is “the pan-Germanic goddess with whom [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is usually identified. Wife of [name_m]Odin[/name_m], she has the power of prophecy, but keeps her knowledge of the future to herself. A goddess of marriage and childbirth, she spends her days doing what all good married women did in the past - spinning, except Frigg spins the clouds. [name_u]Orion[/name_u]'s belt is Frigg’s distaff or spinning wheel.”

It’s even more of a stretch perhaps, but I also think of the Norns, or goddesses of destiny in Norse myth, who spin the threads of fate. Sir [name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] used the name Norna for a character in The Pirate (1821), and the Swedish botanist Göran Wahlenberg gave the name to a type of orchid in 1826.

[name_f]Atarah[/name_f] is a biblical name meaning “crown, wreath,” used in Proverbs in the phrases “crown of beauty,” “crown of glory,” and “crown of splendor.” It has to do with adornment, which is sort of related to ornaments and crafting, right?

[name_f]Ondine[/name_f], [name_f]Eudora[/name_f] and…
Casilda
[name_f]Charis[/name_f]
[name_f]Emer[/name_f]/[name_f]Eimear[/name_f] (wife of the warrior hero Cúchulainn in Irish legend, said to possess “the six gifts of womanhood: beauty, voice, speech, needlework, wisdom and chastity”)
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
Indrani (I saw you like [name_f]Indira[/name_f], but isn’t it a bit close to [name_f]Eudora[/name_f]?)
Merope
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Yolanda[/name_f]
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zuleika[/name_f]
