Names for William and Catherine's Children!

[name]Hi[/name] everyone! Since my past couple of days have revolved around the [name]Royal[/name] Wedding (lol), I got to thinking about what [name]Will[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] could name their children. Considering the blessing for children that was performed during the actual ceremony, I would expect children from them very soon…

So, if you were [name]William[/name] and [name]Kate[/name], what would you name any future children?

I can’t wait to hear your responses

Older children will probably be given more traditional names that I have been in the family for generations. The couple can name subsequent children something less predictable if they are further down in the line of succession.

Those are some great names! Thanks for participating!

For boys, I’d put a bet on [name]Arthur[/name] or [name]Phillip[/name] – they’re [name]Charles[/name]’ middle names too, so they could reasonably make it in there somewhere, though probably not together.

You might also expect to see a [name]David[/name] – it’s one of [name]Harry[/name]'s middle names, and given [name]William[/name]‘s attachment to Anglesey, naming a son after [name]Wales[/name]’ patron saint seems plausible.

[name]Albert[/name] and [name]George[/name] have been in the fam for ages, so one of those might pop in, though again, probably not both at once – a bit oldy-moldy in large doses.

Dark horse is [name]Francis[/name] – middle name of [name]Kate[/name]'s father and [name]Prince[/name] Consort [name]Albert[/name]. [name]Diana[/name]'s mn was [name]Frances[/name].

Likelies:
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Phillip[/name] [name]Albert[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Louis[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] [name]Louis[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

Less-likelies:
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] [name]Christian[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]David[/name] [name]Albert[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Francis[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]

For girls, there isn’t as much variety as for the men, but you’ll almost surely see an [name]Elizabeth[/name], as [name]Kate[/name]'s middle name and the Q’s first name. I think [name]Alexandra[/name] will work her way in. It is QEII’s middle name, [name]Alexandrina[/name] was [name]Queen[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]'s first name, and it’s still contemporary-sounding.

[name]Don[/name]'t count out [name]Louise[/name], though it’d likely be a middle name owing to Lady [name]Louise[/name] of [name]Windsor[/name].

Dark-horse, let’s throw [name]Charlotte[/name] in there – no royal ladies have used this in a while, and it’s a tribute to [name]Charles[/name] (if you’d want to do that sort of thing  )

[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

I would put money on [name]George[/name] for a boy: it’s a strong family tradition but hasn’t been used as a first for a couple of generations, plus its popularity is on the rise in the UK (#12 in 2009) . The Prime Minister used [name]Arthur[/name] for his son a couple of years ago so that is probably out as a first, though could make an appearance as a middle. [name]David[/name] might still be too associated with [name]Edward[/name] VIII, but on the other hand it’s a classic name that’s currently out of fashion, so could work if they feel [name]George[/name] is too overused. [name]Charles[/name] as a middle seems to be a cert, honouring [name]Earl[/name] [name]Spencer[/name] as well as the [name]Prince[/name] of [name]Wales[/name].

For girls, I’d be surprised if [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] weren’t in the middle (they would almost certainly want to give her the option of eventually reigning as [name]Elizabeth[/name] III) so they might want something shorter for the first. [name]Alice[/name] sounds likely to me, or possibly [name]Mary[/name].

I agree with Calou, [name]David[/name] would be too associated with [name]Edward[/name] VIII. I’d say [name]George[/name] too, because of [name]George[/name] [name]VI[/name]. I must say, [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] are almost certainly going to be in there somewhere, if only for the option of [name]Elizabeth[/name] III. [name]Remember[/name], they don’t have to go by their first names, a daughter could be say [name]Diana[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (wow, lots of family), and go by [name]Princess[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Princess[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name].

I think a daughter would most likely have [name]Diana[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], and/or [name]Margaret[/name] in their name, and a son would probably have [name]George[/name], [name]Charles[/name], and/or [name]Francis[/name]. Some references to [name]Kate[/name]'s family probably as well. Maybe [name]Catherine[/name] as a mn?

I would bet [name]Caroline[/name] is in there somewhere. It’s a version of [name]Charles[/name] and honors [name]Carole[/name] Middleton.

I would choose [name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Lottie[/name]), [name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Tilly[/name]), or [name]Eleanor[/name]

For boys, I kind of like [name]Frederick[/name]!

Those are some great suggestions! I forgot to list my ideas…

Boys –
[name]George[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Francis[/name] [name]Charles[/name] [name]David[/name]

Girls –
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Diana[/name] [name]Mary[/name] {I would be surprised if [name]Charlotte[/name] isn’t used, because it honors [name]Prince[/name] [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name]'s sister, [name]Philippa[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]}
[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
