What names have you heard on movies or tv you like, no matter how out there they may be?
For me, I [name]LOVE[/name] the name Cersei from Game of Thrones, obviously her character is horrible, but I love the sound of that name. I probably wouldn’t use it, just kind of too out there (for other people, not me). I know it can also be spelled [name]Circe[/name], but I’m not crazy about that spelling.
I also love Briseis from the movie [name]Troy[/name], that one has stuck with me since the movie came out.
The other one I can think of right now is [name]Sybil[/name], obviously not a crazy name, but I never liked it until watching Downton [name]Abbey[/name] and the girl who plays [name]Sybil[/name] is so beautiful that it really changed the way I feel about that name.
My love affair with the name [name]Ephraim[/name] came from the show “Everwood”. I named one of my pet fish [name]Ephraim[/name] years ago because at that point I thought the name was so ‘out there’ and I’d never want to actually use it. My style of names has really changed and I wouldn’t hesitate to use [name]Ephraim[/name] now.
Sam is my all-time favorite name from a book/film: The Lord of the Rings. Sam was my favorite character, and I think he embodies the person who has “no greater love [than to] lay down his life for his friends.”
I fell for Rose and Clara because of Doctor Who. I had always liked Claire and preferred it to Clara, but after meeting the character of Clara (Oswin Oswald) in the premiere episode of series seven, I couldn’t help but love it. She’s really an amazing character! Rose is still my sentimental favorite companion, though.
I also fell for Evangeline and Jewel because I loved the actresses Evangeline Lilly (Kate) and Jewel Staite (Kaylee) of LOST and Firefly respectively, and Benedict for the incredible Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock. I didn’t really like Lilly’s character so much (in fact, her rival, Juliet, was my favorite character) but I still like the actress’s name!
If you look at my signature, you will see I also love Sansa, which is from A Song of Ice and Fire; Rukia, which is from the manga, Bleach; Neytiri, from Avatar; Gryffin (for Gryffindor) from Harry Potter; Desmond, from LOST, Eowyn, from The Lord of the Rings (I like Arwen from these books as well); and Eddard, also from A Song of Ice and Fire.
I got really into the name [name]Henry[/name] from Once Upon a Time. I always thought the name was nice, but after hearing it so much on there, I began to love it. So much that it made it’s way into my top 5.
Another name I love is Sylar, the super-villain from Heroes. I love [name]Silas[/name], but my last name starts with S, so it doesn’t work. I probably could never use Sylar though, huh?
I like [name]Branson[/name] from Downton [name]Abbey[/name]. I know that’s not a first name on the show, but I think it could be a softer, less popular and less confusing version of [name]Brandon[/name]. (confusing as in “is that [name]Brandon[/name] or [name]Brendan[/name]?”) I also like surname names in general.
I also recently fell in love with [name]Celestia[/name] from [name]Lark[/name] Rise to Candleford. The character was awful, but not many people watch [name]Lark[/name] Rise and the show is stopped now anyway. I think is it prettier and more modern than [name]Celeste[/name].
Agree with all the pp about [name]Benedict[/name]!
This made me chuckle b/c of the name [name]Sybil[/name] being used for a woman with multiple personality disorder. (not that the name itself is really out-there or even that someone with a psychological disorder is “crazy” b/c I feel that word has really negative connotations, but you know what I mean)
Margaery ([name]Tyrell[/name]) and [name]Daenerys[/name] (Targaryen) from Game of Thrones are really lovely names. I wouldn’t mind using Margaery on a future daughter, but I pronounce it with a hard g instead of like how you pronounce “[name]Marjorie[/name]”, so I think a lot of people would mispronounce it.
[name]Dexter[/name] is my guilty pleasure. I would never use it because of the association with the fictional serial killer, but I love it nevertheless. I also like the name [name]Aria[/name] from Game of Thrones.
I fell in love with the name [name]Evangeline[/name] from [name]Nanny[/name] [name]McPhee[/name] about six years ago. I still love it, but its not THE favorite as it was for me a few years ago. Plus, its rising in popularity, which I don’t particularly like
And at the moment, I’m crushing on the name [name]Nemo[/name], from Finding [name]Nemo[/name] .
I love the names [name]Ziva[/name] from NCIS; Katara, Zuko and Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender; [name]Wendy[/name], [name]Mavis[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Gray[/name] from [name]Fairy[/name] Tail (that’s a manga/anime); [name]Kira[/name] (from the anime/manga Death Note- it’s not really a name, though, and I already loved it before hand); [name]Yuri[/name] and [name]Yui[/name] (the anime [name]Angel[/name] Beats! Pronounced yu-ree and [name]Yu[/name]-ee); [name]Henry[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Snow[/name] from Once Upon a Time.
Some of these names I liked before hand ([name]Kira[/name], [name]Cora[/name]), some I liked ([name]Lucy[/name], [name]Gray[/name]) but others I hated (like [name]Wendy[/name]) or had never heard of (like [name]Mavis[/name], [name]Yui[/name] and [name]Ziva[/name]).
From TV I like:
[name]Myka[/name] from Warehouse 13
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Snow[/name] from Once Upon A Time
[name]Gus[/name] from Psych
From Movies:
Nyota, Uhura’s newly revealed first name from the last [name]Star[/name] Trek film.
[name]Rue[/name] from Hunger Games
[name]Hermione[/name] from [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]
I usually start to like names from whatever show I currently like, so my favorite TV names right now are [name]Mordecai[/name] and [name]Benson[/name], from “Regular Show”.
Oh, and [name]Vesper[/name] Lynd. That’s so beautiful in every way. I’m usually not overly fond of [name]Vesper[/name], but it just fits perfectly with the last name: [name]Vesper[/name] Lynd. [name]Ian[/name] [name]Fleming[/name] was a pretty good namer, [name]Eve[/name] Moneypenny is quite a sweet name too when you think about it.
[name]Cordelia[/name] from [name]Angel[/name]. NOT from [name]Buffy[/name], she was such a dolt until she moved to [name]Angel[/name] and then she became a really great character - tons of growth. I also quite like [name]Winifred[/name] thanks to [name]Angel[/name], as well. In fact, the female characters have great names…[name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Winifred[/name], [name]Lila[/name], ([name]Darla[/name] is not so awesome, but she’s a raging lunatic anyway…)
I fell in love with all of the Halliwell sisters’ names from Charmed (my favorite show of all time) when I first heard them - [name]Prudence[/name] “[name]Prue[/name]”, [name]Piper[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], and [name]Paige[/name]. Especially [name]Prue[/name], for some reason. I also loved [name]Cole[/name] from Charmed, as well as [name]Cordelia[/name] from the [name]Buffy[/name]-verse and [name]Aria[/name] from Pretty [name]Little[/name] Liars (I don’t watch the show, but I read about it and locked onto the name [name]Aria[/name]).
