Yes! I have found some really cool names!
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- but she was born in the 1800s so I think it just shows how names go in cycles. And it is stunning! I love both of these names
[name_f]Amable[/name_f]- This is a really cool french name. I love how it means nice in Spanish.
[name_f]Antoinette[/name_f]- This would be a pretty middle
Beasley- Not a first, but a last name in my family tree that I would love on a boy!
[name_m]Augustin[/name_m]- I love this name and would totally use it!
[name_m]Barthelemy[/name_m]- would make a cool middle
[name_f]Despina[/name_f]- A pretty middle
Domithilde- I don’t know if i’d use it but it’s really cool!
[name_m]Elden[/name_m] and [name_f]Eldora[/name_f]- I like the Eld sound but I don’t know if I’d use them
[name_f]Elva[/name_f]- I would totally use [name_f]Elva[/name_f] and I love it!
[name_m]Gibson[/name_m]- Would totally use
Godefridus [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]- This is just so regal and cool!
This is all for now but I might come back and add more!
We have a [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]
[name_f]Therese[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] which was my great great french grandmother which I love.
I know a lot of family names but the weirdest so far I’ve seen are [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] (not that weird) and Proxima. I do think Proxima is pretty cool and there is a character name Proxima [name_u]Midnight[/name_u] in [name_f]Marvel[/name_f] so that’s cool. There are probably tons of one I don’t know but I can give the list of one I do!
[name_m]Jesus[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilberto[/name_m]
[name_f]Angela[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_m]Benito[/name_m]
[name_f]Candita[/name_f]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Omar[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeffery[/name_m]
Mariscal
[name_f]Annie[/name_f] (pronounced like AHH-NEE)
[name_m]Eduardo[/name_m]
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Delia[/name_f] (I have to separate relatives with this exact name. It was a pretty common name in Puerto [name_m]Rico[/name_m])
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]
[name_f]Janet[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Amie[/name_f]
[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_u]Maria[/name_u] (SO MANY ancestral [name_u]Maria[/name_u]'s and [name_m]Jose[/name_m]'s for both genders)
[name_m]Jose[/name_m]
and probably a ton more that I can’t remember.
The most common names in my family seem to be [name_u]George[/name_u], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] (all on one side of my family and usually father and son or mother and daughter). Almost every generation contains at least one of each (at least 5 generations).
The most unique names I’ve come across are [name_m]Waldo[/name_m] (father and son), [name_m]Griffith[/name_m], Hopkin and [name_m]Tudor[/name_m].
The strangest for the year they were born would be [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] who was born in 1942. Her name is oddly modern in comparison to her siblings who have more traditional names, such as [name_u]Joan[/name_u] (sister) and [name_m]John[/name_m] (brother).
And there’s two sibsets of 4 that each contains 1 with a very obvious Welsh name ([name_f]Rhianne[/name_f] and [name_u]Glyn[/name_u]) and 3 with non-Welsh names ([name_f]Martine[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Darren[/name_u], [name_f]Linda[/name_f]).
The names in my family tree I wouldn’t be opposed to using (that I can remember right now) are [name_u]George[/name_u], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].
My family was full of pretty creative namers:
We’ve got Vaden, [name_u]Chesleigh[/name_u], and [name_u]Wiley[/name_u], all the way to Rencanvey, [name_m]Lancelot[/name_m], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u] (yes after the nurse), Theophane, and Brambly. A+ for being original, but not sure all of them are usable today!
I’m only going to list a few, even though we have so many. I’ve listed others on Family Tree Names
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] (m), born in 1805
[name_f]Thankful[/name_f] (f), born 1752 as Thankful Weed and later became Thankful [name_u]Reed[/name_u] upon marriage. Though this name is great, the image it presented back in the 1700s and 1800s was vastly different from what it is today
Bostioun (m), born 1846, pron. [name_m]Boston[/name_m]
[name_m]Boston[/name_m] (m), born 1747
Well, my grant-grandmother’s mom was called Neonilla. It was not so far away from now & we don’t live in [name_f]English[/name_f]-speaking country but that’s is quite interesting name. At list, I never heard it before. The same is about grant-grandfather’s father. He was Porfirii
Orpheama
Nicolasa
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Feliciana[/name_f]
[name_f]Rafaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Silveria[/name_f]
Maximiana
[name_f]Faustina[/name_f]
Zeferina
Cayetano
[name_m]Cornelio[/name_m]
[name_m]Blas[/name_m]
Emeterio
Eleodoro
[name_m]Celestino[/name_m]
These are some of the most interesting ones I have found on my family tree. I really like [name_f]Nicolasa[/name_f] and [name_m]Blas[/name_m]
So many… I’ve been doing this the last few weeks too!! Off the top of my head my favourite from one eccentric line is:
Dorothea [name_f]Margareta[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]!
The rest are mostly [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_u]Anne[/name_u].
There’s also a [name_m]Jacobus[/name_m] [name_m]Cornelis[/name_m]! But most of the men are [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] lol.
I wouldn’t use some of these but I think they’re interesting.
Ephphatha: There are TWO on my mother’s side.
George [name_m]Washington[/name_m] (FN, MN)
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] (FN, MN)
Columbus
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u]
[name_f]Lillie[/name_f] Pe@rl
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriett[/name_f]
[name_m]Plummer[/name_m]!!
Dorc@s
[name_m]Dudley[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
Adonir@m
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] Opheli@
My grandma, [name_f]Kamala[/name_f].
This is so cool! Gave me [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Buchanan[/name_m] vibes (as in the [name_u]Winter[/name_u] Soldier).
I’m impressed you can go all the way back to the 1800s! [name_m]Even[/name_m] with Ancestry, we can’t go far back
All the names in my family (that we know of) are very basic, so I have nothing to add there. But here in [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] we have the Rivanna [name_u]River[/name_u]. I always thought it was an intriguing name!
I can only go back centuries on my mom’s side. On my dad’s dad’s side I can’t go any further back than my great-grandparents. [name_m]Even[/name_m] then, we have conflicting names for that generation, so I will never know if I will ever find out. Everyone who knew something is gone.
I don’t know all of my husband’s family tree but I know he had a grandfather named [name_m]Orlando[/name_m].
I would definitely use it in the middle spot if he wanted to.
I haven’t come across anything particularly out there, the ones some of you have found are amazing!
A couple of interesting boys’ names like Lenton and Tyrrell. Old fashioned ones like [name_m]Montague[/name_m].
We’ve got the surname [name_m]Barton[/name_m] in our family history though, and the thing that really gets me is that there was a [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] ([name_m]Bart[/name_m]?!) [name_m]Barton[/name_m], and a [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_m]Barton[/name_m]. It’s not that hard a name to pair things with… almost ANY other first name would have done!
The prettiest name I found in my family tree was [name_f]Rosina[/name_f], unfortunately unusable for us as it sounds identical to the word for raisin in [name_m]German[/name_m] (and DH is [name_m]German[/name_m], we live in [name_m]Germany[/name_m]).
The most outlandish was probably Keyworth. I like the sound of it but I don’t think I would ever use it except maybe as a character name in a story or for a pet.
I mainly know grandparents, some great grandparents, and a handful of great & great great aunts and uncles.

My favorites are [name_m]Albert[/name_m], [name_u]Sol[/name_u] & [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Would totally use any of those, even though [name_u]Sol[/name_u] & [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] (married great grandparents!) are kind of nick-namey for my tastes.
