Hey there, I haven’t made a topic in ages so this feels strange haha!
Anyways, i’m a bit of a history and genealogy nerd so I’ve been having a look on Ancestry for a while now. I was looking at some of the birth a death records for the UK in the 1800s and thought i’d share a few unique gems that I found (or just some that I thought sounded particularly nice).
CW: some of these names are from death records including children but I won’t specify ages
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are…
Goodwyn [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] (Goodwyn is so cool!)
[name_f]Emelia[/name_f] (love seeing this spelling)
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (fit for a princess!)
[name_f]Albina[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Etty[/name_f] (love how this sounds! also reminds me of [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f] )
[name_m]Absalom[/name_m]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_u]Louie[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] ()
[name_f]Annetta[/name_f]
[name_m]Augustin[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u]
I love seeing [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], [name_u]Henry[/name_u] [name_m]Clement[/name_m] (), [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_u]Friend[/name_u] (Intrigued to see this here!), [name_u]Louie[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Theophila[/name_f]!
I came across an [name_f]Asenath[/name_f] doing my own research recently (the one I found was born in the 1890s) and I’d never heard the name before and had to look it up to find if it was typically used for boys or girls. Ormerod and Radeygun are…intriguing. They sound like [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings names.
Asenath!!! You have no idea how excited I am to see that. There’s so many cool ones, [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], Zillwood, [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], Eluena, [name_f]Thirza[/name_f], [name_f]Keren[/name_f] and [name_u]Leith[/name_u] are probably my favorites after [name_f]Asenath[/name_f]!
Wow that’s so cool, i’d never heard of it either and i’m really intrigued by it. I’m guessing has some form of religious connection.
I wondered whether they could be surnames used as firsts? but totally getting the Lord of the Rings vibe haha I can’t imagine calling Radeygun in for his dinner!
I was so intrigued when it came up twice having never seen it before!
This one is my favourite find from the list, it sounds so whimsical
What an intriguing set of names!! [name_f]Thirza[/name_f], [name_f]Amice[/name_f], [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], [name_m]Absalom[/name_m], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] , [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] and [name_u]Louie[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are wonderful!!
Kerenbappuch is interesting - seems to be a variation of Keren-Happuch maybe?
It reminds me of one I found when at the [name_f]Brontë[/name_f] personage - Zerrubabel! (Whose siblings were [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] - cohesive sibset lovers would be frustrated )
I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Etty[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] Eluena, [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], [name_m]Shadrach[/name_m], [name_u]Leith[/name_u], and [name_f]Annetta[/name_f].
