My husband and I are planning on trying for another baby a year from now.
We currently have a 5 year old (from his previous marriage) named Piper, and a 7 month old named Finnegan (nn Finn.)
I used to struggle with boy’s names, but had a HUGE list of girl’s names. Now I have a couple solid boy’s names that DH and I are dead set on (Reid or Tobias,) but we are struggling with girl’s names.
I would prefer something that is well known enough to not cause confusion, but not super popular, either. Literary or nature/botanical ties are a plus. Most of the ones on my girl’s list contradict the popularity thing. Which, I guess isn’t a deal breaker.
We live in the US. I understand Finn is incredibly popular in Europe, but here I have only ever encountered one (my son) and we get comments on how unusual it is (which is fine!)
I’m super hung up on Alice. Whenever I think of potentially having a daughter, in my head she is already Alice. But, I have a lot of time to think so I don’t want to close off my options.
Here is my list thus far:
Alice (literary tie, plus I LOVE it)
Violet (super popular, but a long time favorite)
Scarlet [literary (think Will Scarlet)- kind close to Violet in sound- don’t know how I feel about “scar”]
Rowan (has always been first on my list, but I get a lot of flack for it on other forums, because it “should exclusively be a boy’s name”)
Grace
Avery (another favorite, but becoming popular. Myron Avery was one of the founders of the Appalachian trail. I’m an avid hiker. I do not like it on a boy and will only use it for a girl.)
Rosalie (for Rosalie Barrow Edge, a founder for the first refuge for birds of prey. Also, botanical.)

I love your list! I don’t think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] should be exclusively for boys and would totally work for a little girl! [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] are my favs, but I agree that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is sooo popular.
