I thought I had found the perfect middle name for [name]Elizabeth[/name], until my husband reminded me [name]Anastasia[/name] is his daughter’s middle name. D’oh! (Before you decide I’m horrible for not remembering that, she is 19 and lives with her mom in another state.) She has a gorgeous name but now I need another elegant, regal, magical name to go with [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Here are some I like, but none are “it.” (Maybe [name]Ophelia[/name] but DH LOATHES it.)
My husband balks at elaborate names, but he can just deal. We’re going with a very reasonable and familiar (though ornate and beautiful) first name, he is going to have to accept a bit of weirdness with the middle.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] will be called [name]Betty[/name], in case that matters. Last name is [name]Hat[/name].ten.
I love [name]Elizabeth[/name] as a first name! Of your middle name choices, I like [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] the best (too bad your husband hates it!). The others I could take or leave. Have you thought about some other Russian names similar to [name]Anastasia[/name]?
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Autumn[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Winter[/name] are cute. Since [name]Elizabeth[/name] is so beautiful and classic names like that seem to fit nicely!! [name]Faye[/name] is also cute!! GL
I like sarahmezz’s suggestion of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] and rachelxoxo’s suggestion of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Winter[/name] a lot!
As an [name]Anastasia[/name], I love the name and I’m biased. However, I always had this grand idea that I could have been a [name]Talullah[/name]. Not that [name]Talullah[/name] carries the same regal bearing, but it has a bit of magic. I’m not sure if [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Talullah[/name] works for you, but since your [name]Elizabeth[/name] almost joined the [name]Anastasia[/name] ranks, I thought I would share that one. Here are a two more that seem to be a bit as unique as [name]Anastasia[/name]:
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Blanche[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Helena[/name]
Unless you want to stick with Greek names, [name]Persephone[/name] seems to be catching fire. Then there is Aspasia, which has a very colorful, historic bearer.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Freya[/name]! That’s exactly my name! Haha! (everyone calls me [name]Freya[/name] tho). So i guess i’d vote for that.
But otherwise, i think [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Emerald[/name] is absolutely stunning. I love the alliteration and the image. I actually love your whole list, but [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Emerald[/name] is just perfection [name]IMO[/name].
Here are my ideas:
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Titania[/name] (as opposed to [name]Tatiana[/name], which would also be lovely, but i like the Midsummer [name]Night[/name]'s [name]Dream[/name] connection)
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Sapphire[/name] (love this)
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Seraphina[/name] (love this too)
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Clover[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Mimosa[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Sacha[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Lark[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Araminta[/name]
Others that have already been mentioned:
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Eulalia[/name] (i think the softness of this works really well with [name]Elizabeth[/name])
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Winter[/name] (very pretty imo)
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Valentina[/name] (as romantic as [name]Anastasia[/name])
I’m devastated that your boyfriend doesn’t like [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Emerald[/name], i think its amazing, i’ve been thinking about it all day!

My husband is pretty tame when it comes to naming. He is 43 so he went to school with 500 Kims, Lisas, and Karens. I can’t seem to make him understand that a name like [name]Stella[/name] or [name]Helena[/name] is not an old lady name anymore and won’t lead to teasing. And as for word names… He equates [name]Emerald[/name] with [name]Diamond[/name] and [name]Crystal[/name], I guess. But to me it doesn’t have the same flavor. Like at all!
Thanks for all your lovely suggestions, everyone! I will try to respond to more comments. Meanwhile I am still so freakin in love with [name]Ophelia[/name] and [name]Emerald[/name]. In fact I had this vision as I was going to sleep:
[name]Ottilie[/name], as usual, blown away by your taste and swooning over your list. Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions. I hope you and your little bun are having a good day. These are my faves of your list:
[name]Atalanta[/name] is one of my long time loves. [name]Raphaela[/name] makes me think not only of the archangel but the painter and the pre-Raphaelites, which is a very good thing.
But I think my favorite is Villanelle. As a lover of sonnets (and a writer of bad ones) since I was a kid, this struck a chord with me. What a charming name! It also made me think of Sestina, which is also lovely.
