It’s my favorite boys name. To me, it flows smoothly when I say it. It’s short, no nickname, easy to spell. It gives a nature vibe as I imagine wading in a creek. It seems gentle yet purposeful. It’s also established but not overly common. It doesn’t have any negative meaning.
And my husband despises it.
Other “soft” boy names I like that DH doesn’t: [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_m]Wilmer[/name_m]
We both kind of agree on [name_m]Job[/name_m], [name_u]Eli[/name_u], and [name_m]Ben[/name_m] but I can’t commit. I really, really like them but don’t love them.
For reference, DH’s other favorites are [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Kelvin[/name_m], [name_m]Enoch[/name_m], [name_m]Eleazar[/name_m], [name_m]Wells[/name_m], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_u]Ezra[/name_u]… and [name_m]Riker[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] and [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] but they don’t feel right to me for my own child, if that makes sense.
Your husband’s like for the hard c/k sound makes me wonder if [name_u]Cade[/name_u] might be a good compromise?
These also come to mind for you:
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_m]Clive[/name_m]
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_u]Glen[/name_u]
[name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_u]Levi[/name_u]
[name_u]Lyle[/name_u]
[name_m]Ned[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Ruben[/name_m]
Cade is nice but just doesn’t give me that same feeling as [name_u]Wade[/name_u]. We had picked [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] out for our second had she been a boy but I was secretly glad she turned out to be a girl. It felt like a compromise neither of us was in love with. I really like some of these names but can’t use them for various reasons. I especially like [name_u]Glen[/name_u] but it’s the name of a close family friend. I also really like [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] but DH has already nixed it. Thank you!
I really love [name_m]Ander[/name_m] but my sister is about to marry [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. [name_m]Dawson[/name_m], [name_u]Forest[/name_u], [name_m]Heath[/name_m], and [name_u]Reed[/name_u]/ [name_u]Reid[/name_u] are definitely my style.
I love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m].
[name_m]Can[/name_m]’t [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] be shortened to [name_m]Shep[/name_m], which also has that “soft” feel? To me that could be a compromise between the strong, noble [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and the smooth, short name you want?
I’ve considered [name_m]Bram[/name_m] but I guess it feels a bit awkward and incomplete to me. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]…I just don’t feel like it fits with my Daugherty names. [name_m]Shep[/name_m] is cute and I like it but it just doesn’t feel 100% right either.
I left out that our last name ends in S so, names like [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_m]Moses[/name_m], and [name_u]Amos[/name_u], while I like them, seem a bit awkward with our last name.
Jude feels a little too trendy to me. I was talking to my husband last night and he thinks I’m too safe (and boring) with my name choices but I think it’s because a lot of the more adventurous names feel too modern to me. I love an underused classic.
Wilfred ([name_m]Wilf[/name_m] for short)
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u] is a nice one
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] is nice but I picture it as more of a rough name than a soft name
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
[name_u]Ryder[/name_u]
[name_m]Auggie[/name_m] or [name_u]August[/name_u]
I’m not pregnant… just wish I was. Now is just bad timing because I’m going back for my second degree. I am just agonizing over names to get through my baby fever.
I have always thought of [name_m]Wayne[/name_m] and [name_u]Wade[/name_u] as very similar…
Cliff is a one syllable established nature name with no nicknames or spelling questions. Along the same lines, [name_m]Reef[/name_m], [name_u]Falcon[/name_u], [name_u]Forest[/name_u], [name_m]Lance[/name_m]?
