Names of pets for children?

So, I was going to reply to this thread “Names you used on a pet” by @loonylovegood, and then I realized that I’ve had A LOT of pets. I mean, I knew that I had, but like, I’ve had so many pets that I can’t even remember all of their names. I’ve probably had at least two hundred. (I’ve lived on a small farm for the past 7 years, so that’s why.) And it got me thinking, “Okay. How weird is it to name your child the name of a pet you used to have?” I don’t know that I would think “how terrible to name your son after a dog!”

For me, I’ve had so many pets, that I don’t associate [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_u]Max[/name_u] (for example) with cats that I’ve had because I’ve had so many that they don’t stand out. The only ones that stand out are my dogs names or current cats’ names, and that’s where my judgement gets a little fuzzy. I don’t know that it’s really that weird, and I definitely don’t think it’s bad, to name your kid after a pet of yours. For example, my dog of 10 years just passed away this [name_f]Spring[/name_f]. His name was [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], and I have honestly considered naming a son of mine after him because he was everything to me. Also, I love the names [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u], but those have been dogs of mine, too, so I kinda question that.

So. Is it really that weird to name your child after a pet that you’ve had?

I don’t think it’s that weird, especially if the animal has passed (less confusion).

I dont think so, its sort of the same as naming your child after a relative who has passed away!
(after all, pets are a part of the family right?)

I doesn’t sound like you would be naming you child after a pet. It sounds that they would just be sharing the same name. I think that this is absolutely fine.
