Names on our list for future children - opinions?

[name]Winnie[/name],

I literally had to get my Google on to figure out what you meant when you said your husband thinks of eggs when he hears [name]Benedict[/name]. But, of course, “Eggs [name]Benedict[/name]”! [name]Silly[/name] me. Anyway, I think my first association might actually be the name of the current Pope. Still like it a bunch, though!

I do think, of your -ian names, that [name]Finnian[/name] is the best choice. [name]Thorian[/name] would be my second choice, I believe. Some of the others feel a bit too unusual or foreign to pair nicely with your antiquated classic style. I thought of [name]Adrian[/name], [name]Julian[/name], [name]Lucian[/name], and [name]Sebastian[/name], too…

Of your boy names, I think [name]Wilfred[/name] needs to go as a first name - it is too close to your name in my opinion. You could still use it as a middle name, though!

I think my favorite first names for you are [name]Benedict[/name], [name]Earnest[/name], and [name]Sebastian[/name]. [name]Earnest[/name] [name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Henry[/name], [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Jude[/name], and [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Amos[/name] [name]George[/name] are quite nice, I think!

Talk later…

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]EDIT[/name] - I thought you and your husband might like [name]Lemuel[/name], too.

We have the names for our twin girls all wrapped up, but I was wondering what your thoughts were on the names we have picked out for future children. We will be leaving it at least four years between having the twins and adopting again, but we will adopt again - ideally, we would like two more children (probably both boys or both girls), unless we are matched to another sibling group, in which case that number could change.

Starred names are family names.

Boys :
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Earnest[/name]* [name]Cloud[/name]* nn [name]Art[/name] - [name]Cloud[/name] is bizarre, I know, but has family significance, and I’d consider spelling [name]Earnest[/name] like that to give it a virtue connection … What do you think? - love it!

[name]Henry[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]George[/name]* - amazing and I want to steal it!

But there’s also [name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Frederick[/name] … The problem is I thought we loved [name]Benjamin[/name] enough that the popularity wouldn’t bother me, but I find myself hearing it everywhere, and liking it less and less because of that :frowning: - I know what you mean about [name]Benjamin[/name].

Girls (we have four names … I don’t know how we’d choose between them!) :
[name]Honora[/name] [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Jane[/name]* nn [name]Nora[/name] - adorable
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Luella[/name]* [name]Mae[/name]* nn Bixie? or [name]Bibi[/name]? - love
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Venetia[/name]* [name]Plum[/name]* nn Fliss - very pretty
[name]Apolline[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Lark[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name]. - love it, love nn [name]Polly[/name]. [name]Polly[/name] is one of my very favorite nn’s.

Our children at the moment are [name]Rosie[/name] ([name]Ambrosia[/name]), [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Raffy[/name] ([name]Raphael[/name]), and the twins will be [name]Dorothea[/name] ([name]Dottie[/name]) and [name]Marigold[/name] ([name]Maggie[/name]).

With the other gorgeous names that you have chosen, I would add [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Apolline[/name]. [name]Henry[/name] is a bit tame next to the other names even though I just love [name]Henry[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] more with [name]Raphael[/name]. [name]Polly[/name] is so cute with [name]Rosie[/name], [name]Dottie[/name], and [name]Maggie[/name]. [name]Apolline[/name] is just an amazing name.

Shall I think of some more ideas? I must, I can’t help it.
Boys
[name]Ambrose[/name]
[name]Bernard[/name]
[name]Gulliver[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Maxim[/name] - unless you have that men’s magazine where you live
[name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]

Girls
[name]Anthea[/name]
[name]Bernadette[/name] nn [name]Birdie[/name]
[name]Cressida[/name]
[name]Delphia[/name] nn [name]Della[/name] - no “n” on [name]Delphia[/name], not [name]Delphina[/name], although [name]Delphina[/name] is very pretty, too!
[name]Florence[/name] - nn [name]Florrie[/name]
[name]Leonora[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name] nn [name]Tillie[/name]
[name]Palantina[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name]
[name]Pandora[/name] nn [name]Pansy[/name] - if this sounds good where you live. It wouldn’t fly where I live.
[name]Simona[/name] - I love this name.
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] nn [name]Willy[/name]

I listed the names above because I am so inspired by your list of names. Your names are gorgeous! I had to think of some more just for fun. Let me know if any of the ones I thought of appeal to you!

I think Eggs would be an adorable nickname for little [name]Benedict[/name]! Haha, it would be so cute!

I also can’t believe that [name]Raphael[/name] is that popular over there! That seems so strange to me, I see it as a very Italian name.

[name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Jude[/name]*
[name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] [name]George[/name]

[name]Frederick[/name] [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]*
[name]Frederick[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Jude[/name]*

[name]Benedict[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]George[/name]

[name]Wilfred[/name] [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Amos[/name]
[name]Wilfred[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]George[/name]

[name]Earnest[/name] [name]Percival[/name] [name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Earnest[/name] [name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Jude[/name]

[name]Percival[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Jude[/name]*
[name]Percival[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]George[/name]

[name]Finnian[/name] [name]Percival[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Finnian[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] [name]George[/name]

Ok I didn’t read this whole thread yet, but please name you next son [name]Percival[/name]! [name]Ah[/name]! I love [name]Percy[/name] and [name]Perry[/name] SO much! [name]Percival[/name] would be too much for [name]Mel[/name], sadly, but you can definitely pull it off. I think [name]Percy[/name] would just be beyond perfect with your other kids names.

I pointed out the Pope connection to my husband, and he was a little ashamed (we are Catholic, but clearly his stomach is more dominant than his religious side!)

I love [name]Finnian[/name] - unfortunately, today I heard three shouts of “[name]Finn[/name]! Come here!”, and we only went to the park and a coffee shop. I think it might be a sign … DH nixed [name]Emilian[/name] for being too girly, and I nixed [name]Thorian[/name] for being too much of a mouthful. I still like [name]Cyprian[/name] as a middle, but thought it might be best if we avoid -ia sounds after all, as we will already have an [name]Ambrosia[/name] and a [name]Dorothea[/name]. I like several of your -ian names, but I don’t [name]LOVE[/name] them. Thank you anyway! [name]Lemuel[/name] is a new thought entirely - I’m going to let it simmer, so to speak, and see how I like it tomorrow.

I think you’re right about [name]Wilfred[/name], unfortunately :frowning:

I absolutely love your combos!

Here are some I thought sounded nice :
[name]Benedict[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Earnest[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Percival[/name] [name]Amos[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Percival[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Percival[/name] [name]Cyprian[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Jude[/name] (no family name, though, so we probably wouldn’t use it)
[name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]George[/name].

If I had to name two boys today, I would probably choose [name]Percival[/name] [name]Amos[/name] [name]George[/name] and [name]Earnest[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Cloud[/name], and regret not being able to use [name]Benedict[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name] very, very much (I love love love [name]Mordecai[/name], but am not sure if it is quite so congruent with our other children’s names, and I am still considering [name]Susan[/name]'s brilliant suggestion of [name]Solomon[/name]).

Of course, a lot may change over the next few years - family members using names, rises in popularity, even our own taste! But I love having lots of ideas down, so it won’t be so much of a scramble as it was with the twins.

Thank you again, [name]Lemon[/name] - you’re always so helpful (I’m sure I’ve said that a million times, but it’s true!).

[name]Winnie[/name]

[name]Susan[/name], thank you for your seal of approval on the names! I’m glad you like [name]Apolline[/name] - I just love it, and [name]Polly[/name]. I was also reminded of another name you have suggested to me in the past as I read our post - Pomeline. I thought it could give the nn [name]Polly[/name], perhaps? I think it is beautiful, although I do prefer [name]Apolline[/name] slightly.

I adore [name]Henry[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]George[/name]; I think he would make a brilliant little brother for your children - you must have another child, [name]Susan[/name]! Because of course, the only important part about having children is naming them :).

What amazing suggestions! [name]Gulliver[/name] is great - I don’t think I’d use it myself, but I might just faint of happiness if I met one.

I love but can’t use :
[name]Ambrose[/name] ([name]Ambrosia[/name]!)
[name]Maxim[/name] (the magazine, but this would be a really novel way to get to [name]Max[/name])
[name]Peregrine[/name] ([name]Raffy[/name]'s middle)
[name]Anthea[/name] (shares a beginning and an end with [name]Ambrosia[/name], so probably not - but I love the children’s book Five Children and It, and the older sister is called [name]Anthea[/name] nn Panther - I always thought that was very cool!)
[name]Florence[/name] (niece [name]Flora[/name])
[name]Ottilie[/name] (niece)
[name]Pandora[/name] (I adore this one, but I think she would get the [name]Pandora[/name]'s Box jokes, which is such a pity - I’ll console myself with the fact that it is too close to [name]Dorothea[/name], anyway!)
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] (niece [name]Flora[/name]'s middle … we could probably still use it, but it is so special to my sister that I don’t really want to make her share - it is a combination of our father’s name and hers).

As you can see in my reply to [name]Lemon[/name], we love [name]Solomon[/name] and I added it to the list! I also adore [name]Delphia[/name], it is now on our girls’ list (as a middle, as it shares a beginning and ending with [name]Dorothea[/name]) - thank you so much! You reminded me of my favourite place name, too, [name]Delphi[/name], which I also added.

[name]Winnie[/name]

Eggs as a nickname is actually pretty great! DH probably wouldn’t go for it, but it’s ingenious!

I know, I was very surprised at [name]Raphael[/name]'s popularity - other than our son, of course, I have only ever met one, and that was while I was in Spain! And people here don’t tend to be so fond of religious names as in [name]America[/name], so I never expected it to be so high up on the list (although, actually the number of babies born with the name in 2008 was only 175, not many when you consider there were over 8000 Jacks!). Although, I suppose I never think of [name]Britain[/name] being particularly multicultural as I am so used to it (whereas I know but haven’t witnessed the fact that the US has a large Latin American population), so I guess I just underestimate the number of people from Spain/[name]Italy[/name]/Latin [name]America[/name]/the Phillipines using [name]Raphael[/name] … that’s my theory, anyway!

[name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Jude[/name], [name]Percival[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]George[/name] and both of your [name]Earnest[/name] combinations are wonderful - thank you! I have listed some other combinations in my reply to [name]Lemon[/name]'s post.

Twinkle

Thank you [name]Lyndsay[/name] - a stamp of approval from the mother of such a handsomely named little one means a lot! I love [name]Percival[/name] at the moment

At last, some girl combinations :

[name]Honora[/name] [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Delphia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Venetia[/name] [name]Plum[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Luella[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Pollyanna[/name] [name]Delphi[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - I love Dephi, the Greek city, as I studied Classics at university

My guilty pleasure name is :
[name]Apolline[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Lark[/name] - as I adore it, but it doesn’t contain any family names, so we probably won’t use it … Instead, we might do :
[name]Apolline[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Mae[/name].

I’m coming into this waaaay late so I didn’t read over all that has been discussed, but I did look at your potential names and want to offer a nickname that may not have been suggested for [name]Felicity[/name]:

Fizzy!

A dear friend of mine is named [name]Felicity[/name] but has gone by Fizzy since day 1 and I think it is just [name]PRECIOUS[/name]. One to keep on file for sure ;o)

xoxo
[name]Sheridan[/name]

[name]Susan[/name], thank you for your seal of approval on the names! I’m glad you like [name]Apolline[/name] - I just love it, and [name]Polly[/name]. [name]Winnie[/name][/quote]

The reason I love [name]Anthea[/name] is because of the [name]Nesbit[/name] character. I love her nn Panther!
Yes, [name]Solomon[/name] is a great name!
And your list inspired me to think of [name]Delphia[/name] for some reason. I don’t think that I would have thought of it otherwise.
Yes, Pomeline is very pretty.

[name]Winnie[/name],

I feel like I need to start all over with my assessment now, so, again, here I go…

With [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sofia[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmond[/name], [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name], [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Blithe[/name], and [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] (?), I like:

[name]Benedict[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Earnest[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Percival[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]George[/name]

My favorite first names are definitely [name]Benedict[/name] and [name]Earnest[/name] - they just fit so well! I also like the [name]Earnest[/name] doesn’t require a nickname, just like [name]Jasper[/name]. However, do you feel that maybe these combinations are long enough in comparison to the syllabic content of your other kids’ names? Maybe it isn’t a big deal, but I’d dress them up as:

[name]Benedict[/name] [name]Solomon[/name] [name]Cloud[/name] “[name]Ben[/name]”
[name]Earnest[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Percival[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you perhaps like [name]Ephraim[/name], [name]Winslow[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Bruno[/name], or [name]Thaddeus[/name]? Here are some more combos I thought of for future boys:

[name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lemuel[/name] “[name]Thad[/name]”
[name]Bruno[/name] [name]Mordecai[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Ephraim[/name] [name]Wilfred[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Winslow[/name] [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]

[name]EDIT[/name]: What about [name]Barnaby[/name]? [name]Leander[/name]? [name]Orlando[/name]?

As for your girls, I really only have one name that I 100% love here, and that is [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Venetia[/name] [name]Plum[/name]. [name]Even[/name] though it sounds very “sprite-like” to me, I adore it! And, I love that it doesn’t end in A. I want to find something for [name]Beatrix[/name], too, but [name]Mae[/name] just isn’t doing it for me, personally. I like these, though:

[name]Honora[/name] [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Venetia[/name] [name]Plum[/name]
[name]Pollyanna[/name] [name]Delphi[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

I think that something like [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Rosemary[/name] would be beautiful, as I think you need a bit more length to the name. But, maybe a “rose” name isn’t the best, considering [name]Rosie[/name]'s name. Okay, what about [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Gwendolen[/name]? Or, [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]! Darn alliteration - I’m secretly trying to get away from it, you know. [name]Lavender[/name]'s cute, though! Oh! What about [name]Pollyanna[/name] [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]! I really, really love that one! I also think that [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Flavia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is really cool, for some reason, or even [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Olympia[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]! Totally awesome! I’m going to list my favorite new combos below, for your perusal:

[name]Pollyanna[/name] [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Olympia[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Venetia[/name] [name]Plum[/name]

Guess I better come up with something for [name]Honora[/name], eh? Well, let’s not leave her hanging in the nature name department, then! [name]Honora[/name] [name]Hyacinth[/name] is sticking out, but the alliteration again! Woe is me! So, I’ll fall back into my literary bubble and suggest this name for you:

[name]Honora[/name] [name]Gwendolen[/name] [name]Tulip[/name]

Okay, that’s all for me! Talk to you later, Twinkle!

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Sylvester[/name] [name]Felix[/name] [name]Marcel[/name]
[name]Lucretia[/name] [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]

[name]Elvira[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Marcellus[/name] [name]Stefan[/name] [name]Larson[/name]

I really like [name]Lucretia[/name] with [name]Ambrosia[/name], [name]Dorothea[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name]!! I think that they really fit together.

While I really think [name]Lucretia[/name] is absolutely the perfect name for you, I want to add some more that I think fit the same “feeling” of your other kids’s names. (this is fun)

[name]Maricela[/name]
[name]Barnabas[/name]
[name]Erasmus[/name] - [name]Era[/name]
[name]Elvira[/name] _[name]Elva[/name]
[name]Fatima[/name] - [name]Tima[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name] - [name]Cass[/name]
[name]Harmon[/name] -
[name]Latisha[/name] - [name]Tish[/name]
[name]Ira[/name]
[name]Fabiola[/name]
[name]Irma[/name]
[name]Lucretia[/name] - [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Ramone[/name] -
[name]Drusilla[/name] - nn [name]Dru[/name]
[name]Amadeus[/name]

@ BellaItalia

I am loving the suggestions of [name]Amadeus[/name] and [name]Elvira[/name]! [name]Winnie[/name], you should consider those at least for middle names, especially [name]Amadeus[/name]! Amazing!

[name]Lemon[/name]

Ditto. [name]Lucretia[/name] is perfect with your other childrens names. As is [name]Elvira[/name] and [name]Amadeus[/name] and [name]Drusilla[/name]. [name]Ambrosia[/name], [name]Drusilla[/name] nn Silla. Totally see it with your other kids. Great job [name]Bella[/name]!! You are fantastica!!

Hey twinkle, how did you get approved to adopt when it’s impossible in the UK to adopt a child who is less than two years younger than your birth child? Or get approved to adopt while pregnant at that? It’s impossible. No local authority or voluntary agency in the country will accept an adoption in either situation whether the adoption screening was started before the pregnancy or not. The birth child has to remain the oldest in the family. Are you in the US?

No, I am in the UK. The birth child does not have to remain the oldest in the family, and we were in fact allowed to continue with the adoption as we had already begun the process before I became pregnant. It was somewhat of a battle, as they became unsure, but the children had (well, still have, really) an excellent, supportive social worker and the children had already bonded with us. I imagine the fact that finding placements for sibling groups tends to be difficult probably came into play. I also think that the children’s home we adopted from, as it is a private charity funded by the Catholic church, may get more freedom in their choosing of applicants.

Are you thinking of adopting, Junipia (I love your name!)?
