[name]How[/name] “bad” is it to use a name (an uncommon one) used on an apparently popular television show? The name is [name]Alaric[/name], which I absolutely adore, but it’s on a teenage-type show called “The Vampire Diaries”, which I guess is fairly popular.
Oh I love [name]Alaric[/name] and I would love to use it! I have watched Vampire Diaries from the beginning and I don’t care if people made the connection. The character’s last name is my maiden name, so I think that is another reason I like the name. I do not like his nickname, [name]Rick[/name]. Ugh. I wouldn’t like the nickname [name]Al[/name] either. That is the only reason why I would hesitate to use the name.
He was a great character. The character is deceased, so it may not be that big of a deal anymore.
So what if that is where you heard the name. Use it if you love it.
I think [name]Alaric[/name] is a powerful name with a long history that can definitely transcend TVD. I love the show, and have watched it from season one. [name]Alaric[/name]'s character was killed off in season three, so give it a year or two and no one will even remember the association
I love [name]Alaric[/name], too! I quite honestly am sick of the whole vampire genre and put no stock in it whatsoever, so the association doesn’t even figure in to me–I mean, sure, it comes from the show, but I really know nothing about the show, and I don’t think a lot of people will make the connection. It’s just a lovely name. I agree with @kathrynsarah - [name]Alaric[/name] was around long before TVD was!
I’ve never seen The Vampire Diaries, but I’ve always liked the name [name]Alaric[/name]. And I don’t think anyone would make that connection unless they watch the show. I’m a teenager and I don’t watch the Vampire Diaries, and I’ve only met one person who does. I know, the vampire shows are stealing all the good names and now we’re all afraid that people will think we like the name just because of the show. It sucks. I’ve liked [name]Alaric[/name] for a long time and I don’t think you should be worried about the Vampire Diaries connection.
I really love [name]Alaric[/name] and the connection to TVD just makes it cooler for me, as I’m a bit obsessed. There are some delightfully named characters on the show!
My obsession aside, it’s a great name and I don’t think it’s necessarily permanently attached to TVD.
Not too connected to the show, and it’s a show that will fade from cultural consciousness within a few years anyway, so definitely doesn’t need to be a deal breaker. And as has been mentioned, it’s a name with a long and rich history, been around since long before the show.
[name]Alaric[/name] is such a beautiful name and also it’s pronunciation like traditional names. I really like this name. I think, you choose a best name for your baby and it would be popular name in your area.
