Names similar to Ezra?

What names can you think of that are similar to [name]Ezra[/name] in sound? For personal reasons I cannot use [name]Ezra[/name], but I still love the name. I’d prefer the names to be Biblical in origin, but that isn’t a must. Any ideas?

My immediate thought was [name]Asher[/name]…followed by [name]Silas[/name]. I’m sure you will get many more suggestions, but that’s what popped into my head.

[name]Esau[/name] and [name]Luca[/name] come to mind.

Perhaps also: [name]Asa[/name], [name]Hosea[/name], [name]Ira[/name], Jephtha, [name]Sascha[/name].

Perhaps [name]Titus[/name]?

[name]Asa[/name], [name]Ephraim[/name], [name]Azariah[/name], [name]Ezri[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name], Ezem (a place name), [name]Ezer[/name] (another place name).

Hrm. I had wondered why [name]Ezra[/name] dropped off your list. :frowning: I loved it for you! [name]Amias[/name] has that same sort of feel to me, for some reason. I know you love that, as well. I always thought [name]Ezekiel[/name] was a nice alternative to [name]Ezra[/name], but I like [name]Ezra[/name] a lot more, personally. What about:

[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Micaiah[/name] (I prefer [name]Micah[/name], but I think [name]Micaiah[/name] has more of [name]Ezra[/name]‘s style)
[name]Asa[/name]
[name]Barnabas[/name]/[name]Barnaby[/name] (love that this means “son of encouragement”, but I think I mentioned that earlier, with the whole bookstore thing. I still think it’s a great name in general, though! The nn options aren’t great, but I think it’s cute. And with a MN that has “en” in it somewhere ([name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Holden[/name], [name]Barnabas[/name] [name]Henry[/name], etc.), I think you could use the nn [name]Ben[/name], which I really love)
[name]Boaz[/name] (GAHHH! [name]Boaz[/name] is perfect! To me, anyway. It has that same cool, vintagey, respectable, funky style that [name]Ezra[/name] has. And I love the occasional nn of [name]Bo[/name]/[name]Beau[/name]!)
[name]Ebenezer[/name] (especially with the nn [name]Eben[/name]. Or just [name]Eben[/name].)
[name]Elihu[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Hosea[/name]
[name]Jabez[/name]
[name]Jethro[/name]
Joash (love this as an idea for a new break-out Biblical favorite… he had a great legacy (at least at the beginning!), and with the very in-style [name]Joe[/name]/[name]Joey[/name] and [name]Ash[/name] nns, I think it’d be a great new Biblical choice)
[name]Jonah[/name]/[name]Jonas[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Judah[/name]/[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] (or the more Eastern European [name]Laszlo[/name])
[name]Moses[/name]
[name]Noam[/name] (not sure if it’s Biblical, but it’s so close to the Biblical [name]Noah[/name]! Has more quirk, though, since it’s so much less common)
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Reuben[/name] (love the nn [name]Ben[/name], or even Roo/Reu here)
[name]Rufus[/name] (ah. [name]Love[/name]! He was an early [name]Christian[/name] and his father, [name]Simon[/name] of Cyrene, carried [name]Jesus[/name]’ cross for Him)
[name]Simeon[/name]
[name]Theophilus[/name] (means “love of God”, which I love. I don’t love [name]Theo[/name], but so many people do. I think you could even get away with [name]Phil[/name], [name]Pip[/name], or even [name]Teddy[/name] for this, too)
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Tobiah[/name]/[name]Tobias[/name]/[name]Tobin[/name]

Good luck!

ETA: Ugh, sorry, I was going by style, not sound… I still think [name]Boaz[/name], [name]Asa[/name], [name]Moses[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name], and [name]Jabez[/name] are great ideas based on sound, though…

Oh I agree with [name]Ash[/name], [name]Boaz[/name] is a great option.
And it’s much longer but in the softness I’m reminded of [name]Nehemiah[/name].

What about [name]Hosea[/name]?

Sorry for any repeats:

[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Isiah[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]

[name]Elijah[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Viggo[/name]

[name]Esau[/name]?? It is a biblical name. The name of [name]Jacob[/name]'s twin brother, son of [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Rebecca[/name]. although is means hairy.

Great suggestions, everyone! [name]Amias[/name] and [name]Ira[/name] are already on my list for boys. [name]Boaz[/name], [name]Jabez[/name], [name]Hosea[/name], [name]Azariah[/name], and [name]Asa[/name] are all really good ideas for [name]Ezra[/name] replacements. I like [name]Ezekiel[/name], [name]Josiah[/name], and [name]Jethro[/name] as well, just in general.

[name]Elisha[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Ira[/name]?

[name]Enzo[/name] was my first thought, but it is not Biblical.

[name]Enzo[/name] was my first thought, but it is not Biblical. However, I find [name]Enzo[/name] to be very handsome!

I love [name]Ezra[/name].

[name]Elah[/name]
[name]Elon[/name]
[name]Oran[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]

It’s not biblical, but what about [name]Emrys[/name]?

I like [name]Emrys[/name]. As a standard rule, I don’t consider names that begin with [name]Em[/name]- though. My name is [name]Emily[/name], and all [name]Em[/name]- names feel too similar…

[name]Eli[/name] (I have one of those!) and [name]Silas[/name] ??
