I’m home sick this week, so lots of time to think about names. I will make a similar girls post if I have time. I’m curious what names almost end up on your list, or end up on your list only to be taken off again, and why?
I’ll start:
[name_u]Callum[/name_u] - I like the sound of this and love the meaning but for some reason I’ve removed it from my list multiple times, I guess I just can’t see it on my own kid!
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] - I love this one, but I think it’s just too short for me, especially with a short last name
[name_u]Ziggy[/name_u] - I love it so much but I’m just not brave enough to use it
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] - Another one I love the sound of, but the meaning just puts me off a little bit
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] - kind of like [name_u]Callum[/name_u], every time I see this name I think “oh I love it” and then every time I see it on my list it ends up being cut for some reason
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - it’s been on and off my list for years. I like it in theory, but I can’t quite imagine actually calling my child this.
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] - I love this one. I really do. But my last name sounds like “mantis” minus the T and I go back and forth on whether them having the same ending bothers me or not.
Charles/Charleston - [name_f]My[/name_f] dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and uncle on my mom’s side are all [name_u]Charles[/name_u]. It will definitely be used one way or another, but I go back and forth on whether to make it a first name and call him [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], or just use it in the middle spot. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s grandpa’s nickname was [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], so it’d be pretty special all around, but none of my other kids have nicknames. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure about it.
[name_u]Antoine[/name_u] - love the sound in [name_u]French[/name_u], lukewarm about it in [name_f]English[/name_f]
[name_m]Olivier[/name_m] - would just get mistaken for Oliver…
[name_u]Joseph[/name_u] / [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] - just a little too common and expected for me, although I like them a lot
[name_m]Destin[/name_m] - I really like the sound but it just doesn’t go the extra mile for me.
[name_m]Topher[/name_m] - on its own, not as a nickname. I like the TOFF-er pronunciation but seems that TOE-fur is most people’s default and that… isn’t great
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] - I like it a lot but it somehow doesn’t seem to fit me completely
[name_m]Thierry[/name_m] - just doesn’t seem practical in an Anglophone country although I like the [name_u]French[/name_u] pronunciation
These still have a chance of being promoted to my list (maybe as middles)…
[name_m]Jacques[/name_m] - I keep hearing people pronouncing it “Jax” which is just not what I would be going for lol
[name_m]Conor[/name_m] - I only like this spelling but I find the combined popularity of all its spellings a bit much for me
[name_u]Landon[/name_u] - love this name but not how popular and ~2010 it feels
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] - a bit old fashioned but I’m trying to give it a chance
[name_u]Rhodes[/name_u] - I strongly dislike the “plural nouns as names” trend but I kiiiind of do like this
[name_u]Rye[/name_u] - I like it, but it seems a little incomplete
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] / [name_m]Nyle[/name_m] - I like them but not sure if I like them for me
I’m currently revamping my list so I can say better later which ones were not quite but [name_m]Linus[/name_m] usually fits this category. I love him and he’d make honoring my grandpa SO easy but for some reason I can’t ever commit.
I could say [name_m]Barzillai[/name_m] and Pudens too but I feel like those are just because they’d confuse the average American way too much. Not all Bible names are equal!
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] - on and off the list (as firsts) due to popularity
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_u]Wynn[/name_u], [name_u]Keats[/name_u], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_u]Merle[/name_u] - on and off the list due to similarity (or the actual name) I’ve used on guinea pigs
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] - love it, but I have a vague relation with the name and it’s similar to my cousin’s name too
