Names that end in -ie -y with our last name

Hey y’all! I’m struggling to figure out if baby #3( team green due in August) could end in -ie or -y with our last name which is Chafee (chay-fee). For example [name_u]Indy[/name_u] Chafee, [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] Chafee, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Chafee, [name_f]Millie[/name_f] Chafee, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] Chafee, [name_u]Brody[/name_u] Chafee. Mostly an issues with the girls names. Brother and sister are [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] Chafee. Also wondering if I should stick with a four letter vowel name? Let me know what y’all think! Thanks so much

I think you can get way with it! It generally sounds best with a varying syllable count (like Emily), but two syllables is doable as well. It’s worked for people like [name_u]Halle[/name_u] [name_u]Berry[/name_u] and [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] [name_u]Holly[/name_u]!

I wouldn’t limit yourself to four-letter vowel names unless the perfect name happens to adhere to those specifications. It’s not a noticeable theme yet with your other children – would just strike me as a coincidence!

That makes sense! Thank you for your opinion!

I think they sound fine, so long as the other sounds are different enough!!

I also have an -ee sound surname, and I think it’s fine as long as the initial vowel sounds are different! And I wouldn’t feel restricted to your ‘pattern’ if you find something else you love.

I think it generally works better with a different number of syllables (Emily Chafee) and/or a different syllable emphasis. But like another post above, it works for plenty of people and I don’t think it’ll be a problem if you pick a name you like!

I think it’s totally all right!

On a different note, I’m swooning over [name_u]Esmé[/name_u] (EZZ-may) with your two as another four letter vowel name. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I think she is dreamy!

I think sticking with the theme is cool too, as I have a hard time with infinite choices, but the vowel beginning is very restrictive. [name_m]Long[/name_m] e sound at the end is ok, I think.

I think there are plenty of name choices that do not end as Ow3n and Isl@ AND do not end in the EE sound of Chafee.

These are names that IMO would work with surname Chafee and make a great sibling for Ow3n and Isl@……

I agree with above - if Y/ie ending, three syllables better and first vowel better if not an A. I also think the last vowel/ending shouldn’t be an A that is similar to the A in Chafee - so [name_f]Esmée[/name_f] Chafee for example, I feel like it sounds like you’re slowly sounding out a name. But [name_f]Isla[/name_f] Chafee works because the A is a quick A (or “uh”) not an Aye sound.

For some reason, the two D names - [name_u]Indy[/name_u] and [name_u]Brody[/name_u] - don’t sound as good to me. I’m not sure why but they sound a bit “itchy scratchy” to me, and they’re swallowed a little. [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] would sound better then nn [name_u]Indy[/name_u]. (I would go for best flow for the name, not worry about four letters to be like other kids as 90% of child (soon adult)’s is not going to involve introducing their siblings alongside them for anyone to notice the pattern - most of these sibset rules are for the parents not really for the child - apart from making sure the names aren’t wildly different such that it would affect the child’s self-esteem/life prospects (eg one kid [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], the other kid called Dirty.)

Of your list, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] sounds the prettiest/best flow. [name_f]Millie[/name_f] works too but I would use [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and then nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. Good luck!

I think it sounds fine to have to use a -ee ending. I would probably avoid an -fee ending (Sophie, etc) or a name that has a long A in the first syllable (Katie, [name_u]Haley[/name_u], etc) because those do feel a bit rhymey to me. But all of you choices sound fine to me.

These all sound good to me. I would avoid -fee endings but I can’t even think of a name like that. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] probably would not be good.

I think it sounds fine!

I think it can work but names that aren’t two syllables like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or maybe [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] work much better. Continuing the theme is fun if your have a name you like that fits but I wouldn’t feel obligated to.

Names ending in ie and y that are also four letters to match the other two
