Just dreaming as we are thinking of trying for a baby soon and I’m super torn with names so just wondering others honest opinions. I’m in the U.K. Lover of nicknames and all middle names are of friends or family.
My daughter is Phoebe Elizabeth (last name with a B, two syllables) nicknames Pheebs and Bee.
My top girl choice I’m torn between are
Rose Elenore/ Rose Elara (nn Rosie/Roo)
Margot Freya/ Margot Elara (nn Margy/Moo)
Clara Josephine (nn CJ)
Delilah Elenore (nn Lilah)
(I’m in U.K. so Elara is pronounced E lah rah and Clara is Clah-ruh)
Top Boy names
Reuben Frederick (nn Roo)
Jonah Josef (nn JJ)
Finn Frederick (nn no idea would probably elongate instead)
Would love to hear thoughts as I honestly personally love all of these. I don’t like how popular Reuben/Margot seem to be but also trends move so fast I feel like should just pick names we like.
Thanks for any thoughts!
Other middles we could use include Lydia, Adele and Samuel *
From your girls’ list, my favorites are [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f]! With [name_f]Rose[/name_f], I adore the combo [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] especially because the [name_f]El[/name_f]- beginning really ties the sisters together – and the nicknames [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_m]Roo[/name_m] are absolutely adorable. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is my second favorite, only because I’m not a huge fan of the nickname CJ – maybe [name_f]Clary[/name_f] or [name_f]Ara[/name_f] instead?
I wouldn’t worry about the popularity of Reuben/Margot, because as you said trends move quickly and your love for the name will definitely outlast it’s popularity!
For boys, my favorite would be [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] (although my preferred nickname for him would be [name_f]Jo[/name_f] or Joey)! [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] would be a close runner up, I love the nickname [name_m]Roo[/name_m]!
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] is gorgeous - balanced, bright and pretty
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] are both strong and bright - I think I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] slightly more!
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - elegant and charming and CJ is super cool
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Elenore[/name_f] feels musical and distinctive
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - so cute and zippy - I do enjoy [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] despite the popularity
[name_m]Finn[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - I like the alliteration and playful feel!
I love your suggestions [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] were actually very nearly on the list!
I LOVE nn [name_m]Joey[/name_m], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] was actually going to be a [name_m]Joey[/name_m]. But I worry about the friends link with a Pheebs and [name_m]Joey[/name_m] but then again who would really notice if it’s a nickname!
CJ I was absolutely pushing to find a nn but I’m sure one spiel you have said would come out more naturally, I never intended to call [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] Pheebs but it happened
Thank you nice comments! I’m glad people are liking [name_f]Elara[/name_f] as a middle as I wasn’t sure. I’ve mixed two of my best friends together and landed on it recently.
You’ve got such a stunning list I can see why you’re having a hard time to decide
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are …
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] (I love that the girls will share the middle name that begins with “El”) and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_m]Finn[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] right behind
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] & [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] are my favorites with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! Great names.
All these options are lovely, my favourites are [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elenore[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. Pheebs & [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] are so sweet together.
In terms of popularity I have met a lot of Margot’s, but I do think it’s just a little spike in popularity and then it’ll go back out again. It also might depend on which part of the UK you’re in, as I haven’t really come across [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] much at all. Funnily enough my partner and I were talking last night about how we’ve not met any little Rosie’s, but again could be just our local area.
I think go with what you love because trends move on so quickly.
Thank you! We are in Surrey but I haven’t heard of many actually I just see it on the top uk
Names lists all the time Tbanjs for taking time to respond
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] are magnificent! For a boy, I really adore [name_m]Finn[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. It’s cool and charismatic.
Your list is amazing for both genders.
I prefer names without hyphens. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely! You can add a second middle name if you want, even if you don’t hyphenate the names. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] would be stunning, for example.
