Names That Have Bad Associations

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t ask why, but for characters I want old names with sometimes a bad history; I’m trying to turn the negative image around. Not too negative, though: I’m not doing [name_m]Cain[/name_m] or [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] since they’re both murderers, and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] is a demon queen or whatever so that’s out. Anyway, help would be appreciated.

[name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] maybe. It doesn’t have a bad history as such but she was a character from one of [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s plays and apparently she had quite a tragic death, and it doesn’t really get used that much (it was the name of one of the sims 2 characters in Veronaville though).

[name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] seems cool. I’m looking also for names with an old history that are underrated, so your reply was perfect, actually.

[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is such a beautiful name but in [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] ([name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]) she is insane and dies and it’s generally associated with tragedy and insanity and it would be awesome for someone to give it a good connotation

Lots of Biblical names would work as there are lots of evil characters mentioned!

  • [name_u]Jael[/name_u]: killed a man by sticking a tent peg through his skull
  • [name_f]Salome[/name_f]: asked her step-father Herod to give her [name_m]John[/name_m] the Baptist’s head on a plate
  • Herod: see above. Oh and he also married his brother’s wife, which isn’t really evil but doesn’t do him any favours either
  • Jehoram: killed and dismembered his 6 brothers in order to become king
  • Abimelech: slaughtered 70 men from his tribe
  • [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f]: serial adulteress rumoured to sacrifice babies
  • [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]: seduced [name_m]Samson[/name_m] then sold the secret of his strength to his enemies

[name_f]Moira[/name_f]: Moirai - Wikipedia
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]: Stalin
[name_m]Roman[/name_m]: [name_m]Roman[/name_m] Polanski

I really love [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f], and [name_f]Moira[/name_f] seems interesting - thanks. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is cute in an old-fashioned way. But [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is common (I know several) and has many positive connotations.
