Are there any names that have grown on you? Ones that you never expected to like? Did you give your children a name that you previously disliked or felt neutral about, but ended up loving?
I was just thinking about the name [name]Eleanor[/name], and I realized that it has grown on me. Same with [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]. My son’s name started off like that as well. I felt very neutral in regards to [name]Luther[/name], but ended up loving it.
All my children have names that years before their birth I was eithervnot a fan of, or neutral about. Naming with another person makes you look of your own personal “beaten path” too. I tend to prefer strong names for girls and lighter names for boys but as you can tell I didnt follow that with each name of my own children. I was once a huge nature name fan (late teen, early 20’s) but didnt really go for those as much as I once thought I would.
Most of my most recent crushes have crept up on me without me knowing - having always hated [name]Alistair[/name] and [name]Elspeth[/name], their Scottish charm worked it magic on me, I suppose. [name]Margaret[/name] as well - I used to think it quite bland but I’m beginning to wonder if it might come back onto the list…[name]Eleanor[/name] I love though. (I love the names in your signature as well - especially those of your children!)
I’ll be checking back on this thread to see what others have said…
I’ve been falling gradually and unexpectedly in love with [name]Aviva[/name] and [name]Sunday[/name] recently. Neither was more than a blip on my radar this time last month. And nameberry has made me very fond of [name]Beatrix[/name], which I never liked before.
I now love [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Edie[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Agnes[/name], and [name]Clara[/name]—all of which I hated before. Thanks to Nameberry for showing me how to love these gorgeous names!
[name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Thomasina[/name], [name]Isadora[/name], [name]Vivian[/name].
Especially the first three. I have no problem with [name]Eleanor[/name], but I used to dislike -or ending. [name]Arianne[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name], I did not see their appeal, until I read comments of berries who love them.
A friend of mine mentioned [name]Tess[/name] for a future daughter and I stuck my nose up at it. Now I’m REALLY loving it. Also [name]Heather[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Julia[/name]/[name]Julie[/name], [name]Valerie[/name], [name]Wendy[/name], [name]Evan[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Scott[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], and [name]Simon[/name] were once big NO’s in my mind and now I like them.
I never used to like my own name, [name]Heather[/name], and now I love it. I wouldn’t change it for anything. I was neutral about [name]Audrey[/name] for quite a long time, then fell in love with it and it is now my daughter’s name. No regrets!
I had loved [name]Owen[/name] since I was 11, although we almost didn’t name him that because I thought it sounded awkward with our last name (it’s a tiny bit rhyme-y, but I suppose not terrible.) But with [name]Eloise[/name], the name had never occurred to me until I realized it was a way to honor my much-loved grandmother, [name]Lois[/name]. [name]Even[/name] then, I liked but didn’t [name]LOVE[/name] it for quite a while–although I loved that it had a meaning, and there wasn’t really another girls name that I was in love with, it felt almost like an arbitrary choice.
However, now that my daughter is here? TOTALLY in love with [name]Eloise[/name] AND her nickname, [name]Lola[/name].
[name]Clara[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name] for me. I say [name]Clara[/name] so that rhymes with car, not claire, and after hearing that pronunciation I fell in love with it. I don’t know where [name]Adelaide[/name] came from, honestly, I just saw it one day a few months back and it suddenly appealed to me.
[name]Violet[/name] - I used to dislike this name, it seemed so harsh and unattractive. But I now love it! I think it’s mainly due to the wonderful [name]Jenn[/name]'s (Jemama) girl [name]Violet[/name] [name]Leona[/name], she’s so beautiful and cute and spunky.
[name]Serafina[/name] - This name used to send me all the wrong vibes, but yesterday I thought about names, for the first time since my daughter was born, and [name]Serafina[/name] was one of the names that made it on to my new baby list. I was in shock!
That’s ok! I mentioned my son’s name in the thread. I just put it under the girl names forum because it seem more popular and people seem to like to discuss girls’ names more.
A lot of names like [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name]/[name]Vivian[/name] are other names that have grown on me. “[name]Rose[/name]” names as well. I never cared for them before, but now I love them.
This made me laugh. Shortly after my son was born, I started obsessing over names and making lists for the next, and my hubby must have thought I was crazy.
[name]Amaya[/name] / [name]Amaia[/name] - it was all over the threads the other day and I really like it. Mentioned it to the fiancé and HE liked it too! Almost fell off my chair!
[name]Brisa[/name]- no idea why this one appeals to me. I don’t usually like word/nature names (it means breeze in Spanish) but it seems to light and refreshing (like a breeze lol) and I really like it.
NB has definitely sparked my interest in more unusual names. I don’t know how many of them I consider truly usable especially personally, but I’ve become much more willing to say, “yea, that’s really beautiful and I can see it working”
Names like: [name]Wren[/name], [name]Verity[/name], Kyrielle, Illyrica, [name]Suriya[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Amity[/name], [name]Thessaly[/name], Faraday, Chorus, [name]Liberty[/name], and even [name]Piper[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] - A family name, but I was turned off by the meaning (“blind”), the fact that it was a feminization of [name]Cecil[/name] (which is probably one of my least favorite names ever), and people pronouncing it Se-sil-ya. But then I learned that St. [name]Cecilia[/name] was the patron saint of music, which I love, and I realized that Se-see-lee-ah actually quite beautiful. Now I love [name]Cecilia[/name], along with variations [name]Cecile[/name] and [name]Cecily[/name]. (There’s no hope for poor [name]Cecil[/name], though. I’ll NEVER like that name.)
[name]Mary[/name] - This is one of hubby’s favorite girls’ name. I used to think it was a bit boring, but his love for it has been rubbing off on me (although I prefer [name]Maria[/name] slightly more).
[name]Crispin[/name] - When I first came across this name, I admit I thought it was really strange. It kept growing on me, though, and now it’s in my top 10.
[name]Ambrose[/name] - I didn’t like this name at all until recently. I was playing around with combos the other day, just for fun, and randomly decided to pair together [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name]. I don’t know what happened, but upon seeing that combo, I just fell for [name]Ambrose[/name], at least as a middle name. It goes so well in the middle! [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]William[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Gregory[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name], etc.
