Names that intrigue me lately... (Girls Edition)

These are not necessarily names I’d ever use, just those which have peaked my interest in the last few days…

What do you think of these? Are there any you like or you think are actually useable?

I also have a boys list in the boys names forum.

[name_f]Amelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Apollonia[/name_f]
Arienne
[name_f]Augustina[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilienne[/name_f]
Eirlys
Ferelith
Forflissa
[name_f]Frederique[/name_f]
[name_f]Josette[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]
[name_f]Merrilyn[/name_f]
Roxandra
[name_f]Tea[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronique[/name_f]
Viatrix
Wrenna

I’m sorry, but most are almost ‘smoosh’ names or names with unnecessary frills and/or elaborations for no discernible reason.

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
Ferelith
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
have potential.

Like or love

[name_f]Amelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Apollonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Augustina[/name_f]
Eirlys
[name_f]Josette[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]
[name_f]Tea[/name_f]

I absolutely love [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Frederique[/name_f] (I like [name_f]Fredrika[/name_f] more), [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], and [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f].
I like the form [name_f]Abelone[/name_f] for [name_f]Apollonia[/name_f] best.

Arienne - beautiful, totally usable
Wrenna - I like this actually, it feels made up but I like Wrenley as well. Nice one!
[name_f]Apollonia[/name_f] - I like it, it’s been on my GP list for a while. I love the option of [name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] - I like this one a lot, it’s on my long list
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] - I know a few women with this name. It’s very nice.
[name_f]Amelina[/name_f] - I do kinda like it despite it feeling super smooshy. My grandmother used to call my sister Jamelina (her name is [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]) so I don’t think I could get that out of my head.
[name_f]Josette[/name_f] - I don’t mind it. A bit frilly but sorta nice.

[name_f]Merrilyn[/name_f] - I like the sound and the look, but it just seems like a misspelling of [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f].
Roxandra - well, I don’t think it’s horrible, but it’s definitely a smoosh
[name_f]Augustina[/name_f] - I’m not really a fan of any of the [name_u]August[/name_u]/[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] names and this is no different
[name_f]Dorinda[/name_f] - Dorito was my first thought :frowning:
[name_f]Emilienne[/name_f] - looks like a misspelling of [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (which honestly just looks like a alteration of [name_f]Emily[/name_f]…)
Eirlys - is that pronounced air-less? ire-less? not really fond of the sound
Ferelith - bit too much like feral to me
Forflissa - this sounds like a sci-fi/fairy name, like something that would be in a [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] movie. It has a nice sound, but it’s hard to imagine in real life
[name_f]Frederique[/name_f] - I’m not a big fan of feminizations, and this is one of the worst ones in my opinion
[name_f]Tea[/name_f] - like the drink and the letter, if you want tee-uh I think you have to go with [name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f] - this sounds like a place name to me, sorry but I don’t like it.
[name_f]Veronique[/name_f] - screams faux french to me
Viatrix - sounds like a medication and a little too dominatrix-like for me. And I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]!

[name_f]Amelina[/name_f]
Definitely usable, and gorgeous as well
[name_f]Apollonia[/name_f]
I can’t imagine anyone with this name except a very specific type of hippie
Arienne
I love this, but then, Alianne is probably in my top 3 names ever
[name_f]Augustina[/name_f]
Unexpected, but useable. Personally I don’t like it.
[name_f]Dorinda[/name_f]
It feels like an old lady name to me, even though I’ve never heard it before and certainly not on an old lady.
[name_f]Emilienne[/name_f]
It’s a little much. I prefer clean and pretty [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
Eirlys
Ferelith
Forflissa
All three of these are just completely unusable afaic
[name_f]Frederique[/name_f]
[name_f]Josette[/name_f]
These are usable ish but I very much don’t like them. Too ‘good girl’ somehow
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
All I can think of is The House on [name_m]Mango[/name_m] street and [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]'s description of her sister [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]'s name being ugly
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]
My associations are too bad for me to be able to objectively judge this one
[name_f]Merrilyn[/name_f]
This really freshens up [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]. I like it, weirdly enough
Roxandra
Prefer [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]
[name_f]Tea[/name_f]
Like [name_f]Tia[/name_f]? Because otherwise she’d need a twin brother Coffee
[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronique[/name_f]
Viatrix
Again, way too out there. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] would be a lot more wearable.
Wrenna
I like [name_u]Wren[/name_u] better, and prefer the Renna spelling, but I do like this.

Thanks everyone for all your input!

lettucehead: I normally dislike “smoosh” names and “frills” too, these are just a few that caught my eye for whatever reason. Not saying I’d ever use them, (except perhaps for characters/pets), just they all had a slight glimmer of potential when I saw them, if only for a fleeting moment!

sorceress: I think you’ve picked out most of my favourites from the list too!!

njordv: I prefer [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] to [name_f]Frederique[/name_f] or [name_f]Fredrika[/name_f], but I like all forms of this name. Sorry I can’t get behind [name_f]Abelone[/name_f], it just reminds me of the shellfish Abalone!

kala_way: Thanks so much for your detailed input! Great to hear your thoughts. [name_m]Just[/name_m] some further info if you’re interested - according to behindthename ‘Wrenna’ is the Old English form of ‘[name_u]Wren[/name_u]’ I found that quite interesting but would need to do more research to find out how true this is. Roxandra is possibly an Eastern European form of [name_f]Roxana[/name_f]. [name_f]Emilienne[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m] and normally spelt Émilienne. Eirlys is pronounced similar to ayr-liss and is Welsh for ‘snowdrop’. Ferelith and Forflissa are forms of the old Gaelic name Forbhlaith. With [name_f]Tea[/name_f] I was leaning more towards the pronunciation [name_u]Tay[/name_u]-uh. Viatrix is the original [name_m]Roman[/name_m] form of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

janna: Thanks for your detailed input too! When I was younger I thought of [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] as an ‘ugly’ name but all of a sudden I am beginning to love it! And I was pronouncing [name_f]Tea[/name_f] more like [name_u]Tay[/name_u]-uh than [name_f]Tia[/name_f].
