Names that make me think of colors!

Some names make me think of colors. Does this happen to anyone else? What do you think of these names?
[name]Red[/name]-
[name]Scarlett[/name]

[name]Roxanna[/name]

[name]Shelby[/name]
[name]Marcus[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Colton[/name]
[name]Milly[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]

Names with strong Latin roots makes me think of purple, of the Tyrian variety.

I don’t make name/color associations, but I always find it fascinating when others do! I think someone did a blog post about this on nameberry a few years ago – really interesting. Anyway, out of curiousity, for those of you who think this way, what color do you think of when you hear the name [name]Hazel[/name]? I’m just curious since it is a color name on its own.

I think of 2 colors- brown and dark green

Words in general have colors for me, and individual letters sometimes too.

[name]Emily[/name] is very deep periwinkle blue to me. That’s probably my strongest association. I agree that [name]Sophie[/name] is yellow and [name]Vivian[/name] is purple!
[name]Allison[/name], [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Emma[/name], and [name]Hope[/name] are yellow
[name]Jacob[/name], [name]Betty[/name], [name]Richard[/name], and [name]Katherine[/name] are red
[name]Isabella[/name], [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] are purple
[name]Lola[/name] is white
[name]Laurel[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], and [name]Jane[/name] are blue

[name]Hazel[/name], it’s hard to block the actual color hazel, but if I just think about the sound of the words, it’s gray. Beautiful name.

I used to think I was so alone in this! I usually associate names to pink, purple, blue, or green, but occasionally, there are ones that feel red or yellow. [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name] are red, for example. [name]Liliana[/name]/[name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Lilia[/name]/[name]Lilibet[/name] are yellow, and [name]Isabelle[/name] is a bit yellow, and a bit pink. It’s the only one that’s more than one color for me, besides [name]Hazel[/name], which was already mentioned–it’s more of a brown and moss green for me.

[name]Pink[/name]:
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name] (for some odd reason. lol.)
[name]Hannah[/name] (although it’s more of a purply pink. Somedays it’s purple, some days it’s pink)

Purple:
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Arianne[/name]
[name]Rachel[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]

[name]Blue[/name]:
[name]Grayson[/name] (more of an aqua/blue though)
[name]Brody[/name]
[name]Bailey[/name]
[name]Boone[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Booker[/name] (tons of “B” names for boys for me, haha!)

[name]Green[/name]:
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Joshua[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]

And then there are some that are see-through, which makes no sense to me, lol. [name]Just[/name] clear. Most of these are “E” names, though–[name]Everett[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Eleni[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] (although [name]Emmeline[/name] has a bit of a pink connotation for me, as well).

Names don’t seem to have colors for me. Except [name]Delilah[/name] it’s a lavender color to me.
And out of curiosity, what colors to [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Dante[/name] seem?

For me, [name]Isaac[/name] is orange and [name]Dante[/name] is red

[name]Isaac[/name] is a cream color, maybe with a bit of moss green and pale blue. [name]Dante[/name] is a really dark purpley/blue color for me. I think most names hold different colors to different people who see colors when they see names, though.

This is too funny. I’ve actually done this with the names on my list.

[name]Linus[/name]- Yellow
[name]Cedric[/name]- Dark [name]Blue[/name]
[name]Ephraim[/name]- [name]Green[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]- Lighter [name]Blue[/name]

[name]Margot[/name]- Purple
[name]Ingrid[/name]- [name]Orange[/name]
[name]Zelda[/name]- [name]Magenta[/name] [name]Pink[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]- Pale [name]Pink[/name]

To me colors are not associated with names’ but with letters’, especially vowels.

“A” is red; “E” is green; “I” is cream; “O” is yellow; “U” is blue. Consonants are mostly grey scaled.

[name]Hi[/name] everyone,
What you’re experiencing when you associate colours with names and/or letters is most likely a mild form of synesthesia – at least, something like it. Synesthesia is a rare condition when you may be able to experience one sense as another – for example, you may associate sounds with a certain taste, or days of the week and/or numbers and letters with smells and colours. [name]True[/name] synesthetes tend to have very vivid experiences so that’s where you hear the term used most often – so if this is you, wow!
However, everyone is capable of synesthesia in at least a mild form. If a T-shirt is loud yellow, you know what I mean despite the fact you can’t see “loud”, at least in theory. It can be the basis for understanding similes and metaphors. This is how you come to associate some names with things like colour and temperature.

Anyway, here’s what I find:

  • [name]Delilah[/name] = dark berryish pink.
  • [name]Lavinia[/name] = maroon.
  • [name]Mattea[/name] = sea green.
  • [name]Liberty[/name] = cool medium blue.
  • [name]Isis[/name] = lilac.
  • [name]Salvadora[/name] = just the weirdest mixture of dark blue, purple and white – possibly red, too?
  • [name]Dante[/name] = slightly darker red than [name]Lavinia[/name]
  • [name]Celeste[/name] = white, light blue
  • [name]Jade[/name] = very bright red.
  • [name]Adrienne[/name] = chestnut.
  • [name]Isaac[/name] = very light pink.
