Names that nearly made it!?

Over my last pregnancy my Husband and I have done a lot of reminiscing about all the names we nearly called our children! I was wondering if any of you guys had similar experiences?

We have four children and have been through lots of names, we’ve had some near misses tho like:

[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] was nearly [name_m]Nimrod[/name_m] ([name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning but can’t warm to the sound!)

[name_u]Roux[/name_u] was [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_f]Nova[/name_f] and then [name_u]Orion[/name_u] until we visited [name_f]France[/name_f] for a weekend (I still like all these names actually).

[name_m]Byron[/name_m], bless him, was [name_u]Camden[/name_u] for ages and then in a post labour epiphany became [name_m]Thorn[/name_m]… This was heavily contested but, the name [name_m]Byron[/name_m] stole my heart as soon as my Husband said it.

[name_f]Amity[/name_f], who was named by you lovely berries, was [name_u]Gemini[/name_u] all the way until my mother-in-law pronounced it [name_m]Jer[/name_m]-mini… to say the least that dream was ruined.

I would love to know your trials and tribulations with naming!

Much [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

With [name_f]Noemi[/name_f], we were between [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] and [name_f]Kiana[/name_f]. As you can tell from my signature, my husband still liked [name_f]Kiana[/name_f] when we had our second girl. We had their full names picked out early, so there were no other names.

Both would have been [name_m]Zenon[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] if either were a boy.

For a while, we both really liked [name_m]Renon[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ren[/name_u]. For almost the whole pregnancy we were pretty set on [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. When he was born I immediately told my SO that I thought we should call him [name_m]Forde[/name_m], and he agreed! It fits him really well  I don’t think I could ever use [name_u]Ren[/name_u] or [name_m]Simon[/name_m] for another child now, though I still love both names. They are like his other “secret” names, haha.

[name_m]How[/name_m] have I never heard of [name_m]Renon[/name_m] & [name_m]Forde[/name_m]?! Gorgeous! So lucky he agreed, I still hope for my baby [name_m]Thorn[/name_m] one day…

Thank you for sharing! [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

You are so lucky to have found such amazing names and they are perfect together!

Much love, [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

My daughter [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] was nearly [name_f]Helen[/name_f] (my grandma’s name), but SO never quite warmed to it. I also affectionately called her [name_f]Margie[/name_f] (for [name_f]Margie[/name_f] Gundersen from [name_m]Fargo[/name_m] because I was pregnant in the winter and always traipsing through snow drifts), but couldn’t get hubby on board with it either. His top choice was [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] and it was clearly more important to him than my “picks” were to me so we went with it.

For this baby, we’re going with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for a girl (runners up were [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]) and [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] or [name_u]Jude[/name_u] for a boy, but you never know, one of us might make a last minute push for a different name post delivery.

My first daughter (which isn’t born yet) was supposed to be named [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] but then we changed it to [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]. My first son was supposed to be [name_m]Remus[/name_m] but we changed it to [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]/[name_u]Ashton[/name_u]. Still torn between those two.

When my ex & I were coming up w/names, it was pretty easy to settle on boys’ names: [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] & [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]. [name_u]Evan[/name_u] was a nod to my Welsh heritage & [name_u]James[/name_u] to my dad’s brother (I didn’t realize at the time that [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] Springsteen’s son is [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]). We really liked the name [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] & [name_m]William[/name_m] was for [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] (I was halfway through my pregnancy when [name_f]Diana[/name_f] was killed).

Girls’ names were a lot more difficult. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] was easy to choose for a middle name as I was almost named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], my favorite aunt’s middle name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], & my ex-[name_f]MIL[/name_f]‘s favorite grandmother was [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. But first names were a lot harder. My ex at one point said, “Why can’t we just use a normal name like [name_f]Susan[/name_f]!” In the end we went to the hospital w/[name_f]Kiersten[/name_f] & [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] as our top two girls’ names & I told my ex he could choose the one he liked better.
