We are still probably years off from having children, but yesterday my SO and I were having that “what would we name our children” conversation and I thought I would seek some extra inspiration here!
As with many families my SO and I represent a variety of ethnic, racial, national, and linguistic backgrounds. He is Mexican-American and grew up speaking Spanish, and I am Brazilian-[name_m]German[/name_m]-Chilean-American and come from a household that spoke Portuguese and English. Therefore, although my SO and I primary speak English to each other but we also daily throw in Spanish, Portuguese, and [name_m]French[/name_m]. When we have kids we will insist on Spanish at home, so our biggest requirement is a name that works in English and Spanish well.
We both agree on traditional, classic names, but he prefers English names that work in Spanish and I prefer Spanish or Portuguese names that work in English. He is also very contentious of not using names that are “too foreign” because he is afraid of discrimination in job applications and such.
We both like:
[name_m]Emanuel[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] (pronounced with a hard T)
Adrián
[name_m]Carlos[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafael[/name_m]
He likes:
[name_m]Abram[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezequiel[/name_m]
I like:
[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_m]Maceo[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Javier[/name_m]
As per tradition we will give our kids both of our paternal last names, both of which start with M, so we are trying to avoid M names, although that breaks my heart because I love [name_m]Maceo[/name_m] so much.
Any thoughts or ideas? I also posted a matching girls post, if you are interested in also checking that out.
Hello! I already posted on your girls thread, so thought I’ll post here as well. I love [name_u]Nico[/name_u]! Although I prefer [name_u]Niko[/name_u] spelling, that was a top contender for our sons name. Also really like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Javier[/name_m] from your list.
Here’s some more suggestions:
[name_m]Santiago[/name_m]
[name_m]Cristian[/name_m]/[name_m]Cristiano[/name_m]
[name_m]Uziel[/name_m]- okay this might not be the best for both languages but I like it!
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_m]Julio[/name_m]
[name_m]Emilio[/name_m]
[name_m]Diego[/name_m]
[name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_m]Bruno[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Amadeo[/name_m]
[name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Cesar[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Luis[/name_m]
[name_u]Cruz[/name_u]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Antonio[/name_m]
[name_m]Tomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Clemente[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Evron[/name_m]
[name_m]Amir[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Aldo[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
@girlywhirly I love [name_m]Amadeo[/name_m], but I don’t think there is any hope though. Sadly most of the others that I really like ([name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]…) have already been used by family members!
@-eagleeyes_ I love [name_m]Tiago[/name_m], and [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] for that matter! I also quite like [name_m]Sim[/name_m]ón, and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is okay as well. We know that [name_u]Theo[/name_u] would be pronounced with a TH a lot of the time, but at home/in Spanish we would say it with a T sound and I would probably introduce him as such.
