Here are a few names that I don’t understand…feel free to chime in with your own suggestions!
[name]Monika[/name]: naming your kid Moniker???
[name]Maddox[/name]: Mad [name]Ox[/name]
[name]Kate[/name]: Hate
[name]Violet[/name]: sounds like Violent
[name]Cash[/name]: Slang word for money that sounds like mash? Huh?
[name]Imogen[/name] is a big one for me. I dont get the appeal to it and i think the letters all fit together quite awkwardly. But alot of people on here like it. Then almost all “old person” names, gertrud, mertyl, miriam, [name]Allegra[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Gretchen[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], names like that. Then there are some random names i dislike such as [name]Genevieve[/name], i dont know why i just very much dislike it.
Also, what is heaven spelled backwards supposed to mean? The opposite of heaven? Oh, what a great name for a baby!
I also have a problem with the name [name]Sue[/name]. I mean, sue as in lawsuit? Huh?[/quote]
Oh gosh, [name]Sue[/name] (and [name]Susie[/name]/[name]Susan[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name], [name]Susanna[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Suzanna[/name], and [name]Suzannah[/name])! That one always gets me - not only is it incredibly dated, it just isn’t pretty in the slightest! When I played The Game of LIFE as a kid, I’d always land on “REVENGE [name]Sue[/name] for Damages” and I thought I was taking revenge out on someone named [name]Sue[/name]…nope!
[name]Olivia[/name]- [name]Olive[/name] oil!
[name]Clementine[/name] - fruit!
[name]Wynona[/name] - reminds me of a whining little girl throwing a tantrum yelling no no no!
[name]Gavin[/name] - Goo goo ga ga
[name]Sloane[/name] - Moan
Portor - Potty!
[name]Otto[/name] - just don’t get it
[name]Castor[/name] - oil!
[name]Austin[/name] - I just don’t see it
Beu - [name]Bow[/name] Tie

I read this way back in [name]November[/name], and I felt kind of bad at the time. I really love my name, and I think we all need to try to be sensitive about each others’ names. We could at least say “sorry” or “no offense” when we don’t like a name. I don’t like [name]Sue[/name] on myself, but I think it’s a cute name on other women. My name [name]Susan[/name] is really dated, but it’s the only name in the whole world that really feels like my name. So I’m glad that I have it. For me, the name [name]Susan[/name] is like a really comfortable soft shirt that I would wear over a t-shirt when I went for a long early morning walk and saw a raven on a light pole.

[name]Susan[/name], I love your name’s meaning and sound, and every [name]Susan[/name] I’ve ever known has been sweet and warm. As you know, [name]Susannah[/name] is one of my favorite names ([name]Pam[/name] and [name]Linda[/name] seem to love it, too, based on what they wrote), and ever since I met you here, your kind posts and creative comments have made me love it even more! (And if you look at the name, you can’t get Susannnah without [name]Susan[/name]!)
Also, when the woman who had the sex change gave birth to a baby girl a while ago, I thought the baby’s name, [name]Susan[/name] [name]Juliette[/name], was so pretty. Your name will come back one of these days, and in the meantime, you do all Susans proud!
Well I for one [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Susan[/name], and [name]Susannah[/name], and also [name]Susie[/name]. When I read the blog, my first thought was “Oh my gosh I hope OUR [name]Susan[/name] is not reading this!” and yes, we do need to be sensitive.
Personally, I think this site should be used to celebrate names, not knock them. I am reminded of my 89 year old mother who brought me up with “If you can’t say anything nice, better not to say anything at all”! (I can’t say I have always stuck to this, I have to be honest, but it is a good thing to aim for).
ps I have a son called [name]Rob[/name] ([name]Robert[/name]) and never once thought of the word steal!
Ha, ha, [name]Ailsa[/name]! I don’t think of [name]Rob[/name] stealing either. You have a [name]Douglas[/name], too. Maybe he dug a hole. My first name is Chuka. I do love to chew food unfortunately.
Thanks, [name]Jill[/name] and [name]Ailsa[/name], for your support of my name!
As a child, I was introduced to another child named [name]Augusta[/name]. When I was telling my dad later about who I had met, I said I had made a friend named Disgusta (sounding like “disgusting”). I was corrected, but I could never hear [name]Augusta[/name] after that without thinking “Disgusta.”
Also, I had a friend named [name]Amanda[/name] who loved to make others feel dumb by always saying “Duhhh!”. So now when I hear [name]Amanda[/name] I think, “AmanDUH!”
Some people may like [name]Augusta[/name] or [name]Amanda[/name] as names but my personal experience has tainted them for my own taste.
