Have you guys ever come across a name that took you back all of a sudden? like you meet someone and you fall in love with their name, either because you didn’t know it or because of how they carry it?
That happened for me with a little girl i met called [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], i had never heard the name before!
let me know! i’d love to maybe find a name i’ve never heard!
I felt that way when I discovered [name_f]Heida[/name_f]. I heard it in an interview with an Icelandic actress by the name, and I just fell head over heels for it. Still consider it in my Top 10, even though I probably won’t be able to use it myself. We’ll see, though.
I heard Topacio on ANTM and I was fascinated. Have never heard it anywhere else.
I also felt that spark for [name_u]Berlin[/name_u] and [name_m]Sycamore[/name_m].
@jonquils thanks for tagging me!!
When I was fourteen, I did some work experience in a catholic school and on my first day, I met a little girl called [name_f]Sarai[/name_f]! I was immediately enchanted by the name. It had everything i wanted - it’s feminine but not frilly, it’s distinct in its sounds and I love that it means princess without being princessy! It probably helped that the little girl was very endearing too and I’ve been in love with the name ever since!
Tëgᴀn, I had a coworker and friend as a teenager who had this name. She pronounced it Tee-gan. I fell in love with it. I now have a neighbor whose daughter is Tëᴀgᴀn with the same pronunciation. It confirmed my love of the name, but I still prefer the way I originally saw it spelled.
This happened for me with [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]. Never been a huge fan of virtue names, don’t dislike them but don’t love them, and certainly had never given much thought to [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]. Then a young woman named [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] started working at the grocery store near our place and wow, does she carry it so well! She also has this amazing witchy goth aesthetic going on and so now [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] gives me that vibe too and I love it.
The name of my future son, if my wife agrees to it!
I heard [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] on a video game character. I’d known of it before, but never really paid attention to it or considered it. In the first 1-2 minutes of hearing it I felt like it was something special. Over a year later, it’s the name that feels the most right. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s perfect for me!
I first heard the boys name [name_u]Archer[/name_u] a few years ago.
I watched a viral video about a baby who heard his parent’s voice for the first time with the help of hearing aids. The video was very emotional, and I fell in love with the name. I mentioned it to my husband just at random, and he loved it too.
The first time I heard the name [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] was in my seventh grade science class (so many years ago!) There was this random kids in my class named [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], but he went by his middle name [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]. I remember thinking on the first day of school, I like the sound of that name!
It sealed the deal for me when I saw a video a few years ago about an adorable little boy named Huddy who was taking care of a baby kangaroo.
Louise!! I was just casually watching bob’s burgers when it hit me. [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is such an amazing name. Very few names can sound feminine and spunky at the same time, and [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is one of them.
I met a woman whose daughter (now a teen) is named Cel3stia S3raph1m. I found it to be so “other-worldly”
Elodie
I’ve always wondered is it pronounced Sair -eye
S-are-eye Sair-ay??
I’ve always loved the spelling (also have you ever come across [name_f]Miray[/name_f]?)
Someone on here posted Cielle the other day and that blew me away.
I remember having a leader in summer camp called
Shamiso and she had glorious long braids down to her waist and I thought her name was the most beautiful name ever.
I met a girl in The Gambia who was called what sounded like ee-sa-too I imagined it spelt Isatou but I actually don’t know
Lilia Kopylova on Strictly Come Dancing made me fall in love with [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] instantly
Also…
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], Aurélia, [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Lilyanna[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_m]Eoin[/name_m], [name_f]Este[/name_f], [name_f]Adeliza[/name_f]
There’ve probably been many more
I came across Hero when we studied Much [name_f]Ado[/name_f] About Nothing at secondary school. I absolutely loved it and I distinctly remember being gutted that the character was so much less feisty and interesting than [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], whose name I don’t like as much. They always felt like they got the wrong names to me. Maybe if it were [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]…
Anouk and Caro from Chocolat – there are some great names in that book!
A friend was considering Joss for their baby boy and I thought it was just perfect (they ended up going with something else, but I still love [name_u]Joss[/name_u]).
Valentine was a name that had never really been on my radar but after my grandmother died during my pregnancy with my son I felt like I wanted to give him a name with a clear connection to her and it just came to me. No idea why it wasn’t one I’d considered before because it feels right up my street. I’m so glad it popped into my head that day after my 20w scan showed he was a boy!
Alice! I fell in love with it after a met a girl named [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
Elodie: [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] honours my mother, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], who passed recently. I saw her and…
This doesn’t happen to me much (maybe because all of my names are super common, so I’ve been hearing them my whole life!) That said, I recently saw the name [name_u]Noel[/name_u] for a boy in a new light, and just immediately put it on my list without second thought!
I pronounce it suh-rye
I haven’t come across [name_f]Miray[/name_f]! Thanks for sharing
Persephone is the first that comes to mind. I first read it in a Greek mythology kids book and loved the story and the way it looked written down (I did not know how to pronounce it for several years) and the longer time has gone on the more and more I love it to the point that I think if I had a daughter this would be her name.
This is the girl forum, but I didn’t see this question on the boy forum. And I think my main one is a boy name: [name_m]Colm[/name_m]. I read it in a book a few years ago. It’s just so dreamy. And it means ‘dove’, which makes it even more beautiful.
