Names that you've changed your opinion on

Have you ever completely changed your opinion on a name? Gone from loving a name to hating it? Hating a name to loving it? Thinking that a name was crusty and outdated to having it be your absolute favorite?

Which names have you undergone the most dramatic changes of opinion on?

I used to dislike a lot of the names on my list – [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Wren[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Fay[/name], [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Bellamy[/name], [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Rex[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Maximus[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], [name]Dexter[/name], & [name]Charles[/name]. Over the years my taste has changed a lot and now all these names appeal to me, the more I learn about them and talk about them. As for loving a name and then hating it, I can’t really think of any, at least recently. There are a lot of names I liked when I was a kid and I dislike now for example [name]Madison[/name] {named a dog we once had this} and [name]Macy[/name] {a girl at school who I remember liking her name}.

With our first baby before we found out it was a boy we had decided on the name [name]Lacey[/name] for a girl. I was visiting a friend while pregnant and his roommates dogs name was [name]Lacey[/name], by that time I knew I was having a boy, but when I heard the dogs name it made me realize that it’s not the first dog I met named [name]Lacey[/name]. I am so glad we did not have a girl I hate this name. Other girls names that are to often used for dogs are [name]Hailey[/name] and [name]Bailey[/name].

Names I have come to like/love that I use to think were to old ladyish/old manish or had a negative occasion with
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]

[name]Abraham[/name]
[name]Giles[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name] (the grouch)

I used to love the name [name]Scarlett[/name] but now I can’t stand it.

Names I used to think were too outdated but now love are:
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Susanna[/name]

Nothing so extreme, but I’ve certainly found that new (to me, or at least newly attractive to me), shiny name, put it on my list, loved it for a few months, then got thoroughly sick of it to the point of distaste. This happened to me with [name]Evelyn[/name] (and I’m sure many, many more that I don’t remember anymore), and [name]Evie[/name] itself which had spawned a bunch of names on my list as a means to the nn [name]Evie[/name]. I LOVED [name]Evie[/name] for at least two years, it was it for me, and then one day I was just over it. Huh.

I’ve also had people ‘ruin’ favorite names for me. The SSA name list itself has done that for me a number of times ([name]RIP[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Sophie[/name]).

My name tastes have changed a lot so there are lots of names I used to love that I really dislike now. [name]One[/name] of the recent names I have changed my opinion on is [name]Jeremy[/name], I used to hate it but now I love the name.

I definitely more open to weirder names than I used to be. I would have scoffed at names like [name]Gable[/name], [name]Coral[/name], and [name]Thessaly[/name] a few years ago, but now I find myself really loving them. I don’t think there’s ever been a name I adored and ended up hating it. I stick pretty close to my favorites.

[name]Margaret[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Alice[/name], and [name]Lucy[/name] are all names I disliked when I was a teen and am in love with now. My taste definitely got more sophisticated/classic.

In HS my favorite names were [name]Ava[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], and [name]Maia[/name]. Now they’re [name]Elisabeth[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], and [name]Juliet[/name]. Have a soft spot for [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Amy[/name], too.

I used to hate [name]Edith[/name], but now I love it with the nn [name]Edie[/name]. I was never a fan of [name]Bryony[/name], but now I’m starting to love it so much.

When I was growing up, I loved the names [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Kimberly[/name] and [name]Chelsea[/name]. I don’t like [name]Rachel[/name] and [name]Kimberly[/name] any more, but I still don’t mind [name]Chelsea[/name], I just don’t love it.

I used to hatehateHATE [name]Callum[/name] - I can’t remember why. I thought it sounded awful. But then my partner told me he liked it…and he NEVER suggests names. So, I started looking into it…when I saw the meaning, that started to change my perception of the name, and now it’s at the top of my list. I also adore the nn [name]Cal[/name].

I also used to think that [name]Henry[/name] was an awful name, but it too is now on my long-list.

I don’t know if I have any like this for girls…maybe [name]Stella[/name]? I thought it was tacky, but I’ve been considering it more and more lately. It’s not a top contender, and I doubt I’ll ever use it, but I definitely don’t think it’s tacky anymore.

When I first heard the named [name]Declan[/name], I absolutely hated it. I now have a five-year-old with this name, so I guess I definitely changed my mind on that one!

I used to be indifferent to [name]Penelope[/name] or thought it was nms but now I can’t stand it.

Used to hate
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Jubilee[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]

Used to like/love
[name]Eli[/name] (Used to love but now way (!!!) to popular and overused)
[name]Windsor[/name] (For a girl. I know no comment)
[name]Ever[/name] (g)

Used to [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Amanda[/name] and [name]Freya[/name] [name]Sol[/name]. Now I think [name]Amanda[/name] i blah and [name]Freya[/name] I am kind of luke warm on.

Used to dislike old names such as [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Victoria[/name], now I love them.

I used to really like the name [name]Skyler[/name], but unfortunately i’ve met a lot of Skylers over the years, it kinda has a negative connotation for me now

funny…I just posted something about this too yesterday. glad to know someone else is thinking about it! here’s what I said…

“When everyone on Nameberry started talking about [name]Grayson[/name] I hated the name. I think I actually gave people a lot of negative feedback. About two days ago, I was introduced to a man named [name]Grayson[/name]. I immediately loved the name. I thought it had a great sound and talked about the name for two days. It hit me later when I saw it on paper that this was the same name I had disliked before. It seemed so different hearing it on a grown man and knowing it wasn’t just a made-up 2000’s name. I think it is my new all-time favorite boy’s name.”

Oh gosh, me too! I heard a mother calling her child [name]Scarlett[/name] in the supermarket today, and I thought how harsh and horrible it sounded. I now think it’s in the category of ‘looks pretty, sounds dreadful’.

Ditto this! I really thought I was the only one on nameberry to dislike [name]Penelope[/name]. I think it’s clunky and dull, and I’m honestly just sick of seeing it on here.

[name]Just[/name] a few…

Between [name]Love[/name] & Hate:

[name]Chloe[/name]: I have only met one [name]Chloe[/name] in my life and that was in grade school. I thought she had the prettiest name, but right now, I cannot stand it.

[name]Claire[/name]/[name]Blythe[/name]/[name]Briar[/name]: Sometimes I find it appealing and adorable; other times I find it boring and blah.

[name]Cadence[/name]: I loved loved loved this name, and It would have been [name]Cadence[/name] [name]Aurora[/name]. [name]Even[/name] when other family members kinda snarled their noses or kept saying it wrong. But when I became addicted to name sites again, I noticed how popular -den, type names became and it lost its flare for me. I doubt I will ever love the name the same. [name]Aiden[/name]/[name]Caden[/name]/[name]Jaden[/name] type names made the appeal go up in smokes.

[name]Chandler[/name]: I loved having the idea of giving homage to my elder sister, but now, this name is keeps me on a see-saw. I find it odd that some find it feminine.

[name]Courtland[/name]: I thought it would be cool to have a boy named after me. Lol, but many people thought I was saying Courtlyn (NMS).

Ooh:

Calluna: I have always like [name]Luna[/name] because of [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name], but I am favoring Calluna, because of connection to grandmother and swankiness.

Rhoswen: Like the sound and the rarity of it in the States.

[name]Gable[/name]: So handsome

[name]Lucy[/name]/[name]Henry[/name]: would never use it, but I can see the appeal for others.

Eww:

[name]Skylar[/name]: Maybe because I had a cat with this name. Lol, but I did love it.

[name]Sarah[/name]/[name]Tyler[/name]/[name]Brian[/name]/[name]Brandon[/name]/[name]Calvin[/name]/[name]Kevin[/name]: not completely eww, but have too much eww for me to want to use it right now.

I cannot remember any more names that I use to Like/[name]Love[/name] and now dislike. Maybe I have blocked them for now.
