Names the boys should take back from the girls

They haven’t been stolen from the girls yet, but are getting more popular: [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u]. I don’t understand why people don’t use Elliette / [name_f]Eliette[/name_f], [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] / [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] nn [name_u]August[/name_u]. Like, “beau” literally means “handsome” in french and is a masculine word.

I would love to meet a boy named [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_f]Nova[/name_f] or [name_u]Harper[/name_u].

I like it on girls a lot, and I dont think they have exactly stole it from the boys, but my biggest gp is [name_f]Florence[/name_f] on a little guy.
I also love [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] on boys.

To me, [name_u]Cameron[/name_u], [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] are all boy, even though they’re now more popular for girls.

And I looove [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], especially because it’s a family name.

I adore [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] as a boys name but my husband grew up with a girl [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] so it’s a no go.

[name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u]…and just about any name that ends in -son…

All of them but definitely [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] and [name_u]Haley[/name_u]. I realize [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Cooper[/name_m]'s given name wasn’t [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but I think it would be pretty rad on a boy. [name_f]Brittney[/name_f] also feels manly to me. And I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to use [name_u]June[/name_u] on a boy. Guess some of the ones I listed were never “boy” names.

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] the place name is technically unisex despite being overwhelming more popular for girls so you definitely aren’t wrong to feel that way. [name_m]Just[/name_m] about every variant spelling though has only been used for girls. As a [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] myself I totally agree that if we ignore it’s usage and just look at the name itself it has a somewhat masculine vibe.

[name_u]Madison[/name_u] is my personal favourite. Mad could work as a nickname, [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] manages it just fine. Plus I just prefer [name_u]Madison[/name_u] for a boy, I’d use [name_f]Maud/name_f for a girl instead.

[name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (pronounced [name_f]Eve[/name_f]-lin) are all nice choices for boys as well.

I’ve known boys named [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_u]Shannon[/name_u], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Dana[/name_u], [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_u]Casey[/name_u], [name_u]Jody[/name_u], [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u], [name_u]Quin/name_u, [name_u]Sandy[/name_u] & [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and I must say just how refreshing it is to see these names on boys, these days. I think it completely changes the ‘vibe’ of the name when thought about on a boy, as opposed to a girl - many ‘unisex’ type names tend to feel quite dated/trendy on girls due to them being so popular in specific decades, while on boys, so fresh, due to their lack of us for long periods, yet that familiarity of general use.

It’s such a pity more of these names aren’t used on boys, due unfortunately to them being seen as ‘girly’, ‘soft’, weak’ and therefore ‘not suitable for a boy’…those horribly backwards assumptions of girls/women being ‘lesser than’. Similarly, I also wish that is wasn’t as commonplace to feel the need to give girls a ‘strong’, ‘powerful’ ‘tomboy-ish’ type ‘boys name’, hence creating this whole dilemma of ‘girly’/‘boyish’/‘taking back’ names. This is, however, the hand society has dealt us, and unfortunately (and disturbingly) it’s becoming very hard not to get drawn into the connotations of these names and their use. Ugh… Hopefully the tides turn soon enough, perhaps even if just beginning with fictional characters, because as was seen with [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], those pop-culture associations can, and do, sway usage of names on each gender.

In answer to the thread directly, and as others have said, I think -son names really need to be used more on boys again, due to their (obvious) ‘son of -’ meanings. I’ve always really liked [name_u]Addison[/name_u] myself.
