I’ve been searching for a while now a fn to go with the MN [name_m]Colin[/name_m]. I’ve never been a fan of honour names, however [name_m]Colin[/name_m] was the name of my husband’s grandfather and he really wants to use it. I just seem to not be able to find any names I ‘love’ to go with it.
The ones we’ve discussed are:
[name_m]Xander[/name_m] [name_m]Colin[/name_m] - whilst we both like it I don’t [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it.
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_m]Colin[/name_m] - same as above
I really like [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_m]Colin[/name_m] but he isn’t too keen on [name_f]Briar[/name_f].
One that really does make me go wow is [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] [name_m]Colin[/name_m], but my husband and I both have the same initials AJM now that I’ve taken his last name and I’m worried that going with a A name for the first child is setting a theme we don’t want (I’m not a theme person when it comes to names).
I also like [name_u]Harley[/name_u] [name_m]Colin[/name_m] but our surname also ends in ey so again, I’m not sure.
Any suggestions to go with this middle name that I can bring to the table in the future?
If you really like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], don’t let the initial stop you! If you have another child, no one says you have to choose an A name again.
Regarding [name_u]Harley[/name_u], if your last name is two syllables with the same emphasis, then it could sound too sing-song. But if it has a different number of syllables or different emphasis, I think this could be OK. I wouldn’t worry too much about the repeated -ey in writing. [name_u]Harley[/name_u] [name_u]McKinley[/name_u], for example, looks and sounds alright to me. [name_u]Harley[/name_u] Key as well. [name_u]Harley[/name_u] [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] might be a bit much.
