Names to go with surname Brown

With the last name [name_m]Brown[/name_m], we feel limited on options for our daughter’s name…very common names are out. We keep gravitating back to [name_m]Berkeley[/name_m] but wanted to get opinions on our list below:

[name_m]Berkeley[/name_m]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Baylee[/name_u]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Renee[/name_f]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

Erm, if you’re trying to avoid popular names, I would ax [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] straightaway, and I would probably include [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]/[name_u]Baylee[/name_u], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], which are all fairly reasonably popular, as well. [name_m]Berkeley[/name_m] and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] are much too masculine for me personally (and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] is hugely popular for boys), so I would axe those, as well. That leaves you with [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Renee[/name_f], [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is a bit “B” heavy; [name_f]Renee[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is a bit “R” heavy; [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is too “B” and “R” (and maybe even “O”) heavy; [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is a bit out-there for me, but I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m], or [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] would all be delightful!

I feel like that was a bit harsh of a judgment on all of them on my part–they’re all really nice names, for the most part (and I’d love to see more Lillians/Lilys in the world!), but I would toss a lot of these if you’re trying to avoid popularity, especially with a popular surname. I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is swoonworthy, honestly! If it were me, I’d use that.

Good luck!

I mostly agree with ashthedreamer; I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] or [name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] are the nicest and more unheard of options.
I actually quite like [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f], but paired with your last name make me think of a farm (eg. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] Farm or [name_m]Brown[/name_m] Meadows).
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like:
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]
?

I do agree that most of your list are highly popular names. I think I know 7 or 8 avery’s. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite on your list is probably annabelle but I do like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] as well!

[name_m]Berkeley[/name_m] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is a wonderful name: spunky and sassy, smart and sprightly, unisex, though not your typical unisex name. I love, love, love it, and the alliteration is a huge plus. Definitely my favourite combination.

[name_m]Berkeley[/name_m]- See above. I would be super duper excited to meet a [name_m]Berkeley[/name_m].
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]- A lovely, mellifluous combination. I do know a [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m], and it suits her beautifully.
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]- NMS, but still lovely. Something feels a bit off though, with [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]. I can’t quite put my finger on it.
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]- NMS, but still lovely.
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]- I agree about the farm thing. It is a shame though: [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is a lovely name.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]- This sounds lovely: [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]. NMS, but a wonderful name.
[name_u]Baylee[/name_u]- I love the alliteration of [name_u]Baylee[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m], but I prefer [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]. A lovely spunky name.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]- See above.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]- [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]: elegant and feminine name balanced by the spunky and common surname [name_m]Brown[/name_m].
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]- Sorry, I just think of the Dracula victim, [name_f]Mina[/name_f] Harker. Not the best role model, with her being the tradtional Victorian woman and all.
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]- I love this: [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]. The repetition of the ‘b’ sound adds a link between the two names and makes them sing.
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]- NMS, but still nice.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]- Ditto.
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]- Ditto.
[name_f]Renee[/name_f]- [name_f]Renee[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is lovely: I think [name_f]Renee[/name_f] is a wonderful, friendly name.
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]- NMS, but still a lovely name.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]- [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] has a lovely studious image, with a bit of hidden vigour. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] choice.
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]- NMS, but still lovely. The alliteration is lovely in this case.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]- The ‘b’ sound adds a link, and these names feel perfect together.

Favourites: [name_m]Berkeley[/name_m], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

[name_m]Brown[/name_m] is a common surname where I live, so I think anything works. From you list, I love:

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]

[name_m]Berkeley[/name_m] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is an awesome name! I actually think it’s a great example of successful alliteration. If you love it, use it!
[name_f]My[/name_f] second choice would be [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]… [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] sounds great.

bump…thanks for the input

considering a few other options:

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (our son is [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] though)
[name_u]Navy[/name_u]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]

[name_m]Berkeley[/name_m] - [name_m]Berkeley[/name_m] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] does have a nice ring to it, but it sounds a bit like a cartoon character to me. “The Extraordinary Exploits of Brilliant [name_m]Berkeley[/name_m] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]”! It’s also quite masculine
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] - I’m not against alliteration, but this doesn’t flow well with [name_m]Brown[/name_m].
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] - this is better than [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], but the Br-Br is a bit hard to say.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u] - again, quite masculine and quite doggish. I know a chocolate lab named [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] so this immediately made me think of that.

Other “B” options
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] - I think this is a great alternative to [name_m]Berkeley[/name_m]

All of these are in the top 30 so I’d avoid if you’re wanted something not too popular:
[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] - way too common a nickname
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] - quite common in the last decade (I know at least 10 [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]'s of various spellings)

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - I’d stay away from this. I love the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but she was a major character in [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought is, “[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] married [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]!”
[name_u]Navy[/name_u] - [name_u]Navy[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]? sorry way too colorful

[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] - what about [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or [name_f]Marlo[/name_f]?
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] - what about [name_f]Annika[/name_f] or [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]?
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - what about [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]?

[name_f]Renee[/name_f] - [name_f]Renee[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] sounds nice. A bit R heavy but not bad.
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] - same as [name_f]Renee[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f] - [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is okay
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is pretty
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is nice I like it

I’d avoid the BB alliteration so your kid won’t have to feel like a cartoon character. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Finola[/name_f], [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]…
