Hello internet! My husband and I are expecting our second child together. We both like the name [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] (spelling is a whole other conversation…) but are concerned that it is too similar to our first daughter’s name, [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. Both names start with the A, have the hard B sound in the middle, and end with L. Are they cute and kind of matching or is it too close?
I love both names, but can’t use them for different reasons ! I think [name_f]Annabel/name_f [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and are close, but not quite too close! Also consider nicknames if you would use them most of the time - [name_u]Abby[/name_u] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f]? [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Gail[/name_f]? You’ll be saying their names together a whole lot so consider the flow of those too!
They’d be too close for me personally, as lovely as [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is.
You might be able to get away with [name_f]Annabella[/name_f] or [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] - or [name_f]Aria[/name_f] perhaps, but I think the flow, rhythm and sounds of [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] mesh too much for me
It’s sooo close to being TOO close, but I actually kind of like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. I agree with pp --nicknames would be the deciding factor for me. If you call them both by their full names all the time, it would probably be too close, but if at least one has a nickname I like it. Have you considered [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]? [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]?
Yeah, while both [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] are lovely ([name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is one of my faves, and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is my middle) I think they’re way to similar to use for sisters, maybe [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] in the middle spot, or just [name_f]Anna[/name_f]? Or a different -belle name ([name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] ect)
If you like it the matching shouldn’t matter too much. It’ll just be a cute family quirk.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel/name_f are too close for me if you’re going to use the full names, sorry. The fact that there are shared sounds in the beginning, middle AND end of the names make them seem really similar.
If they’re going to be, say, [name_u]Abbie[/name_u] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] most of the time though, it’s totally fine and wouldn’t be confusing. I personally wouldn’t want to give my daughters such similar names, but there’s no problem with it if you don’t mind!
They are close enough that you could confuse them if you were calling out for one or the other, and that’s too close for me. But I think [name_f]Annabella[/name_f] could work, and I like the idea of naybe [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] instead. [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] still feel a little too close for me, but better than [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
What is it about [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] that draws you in? I think that people are drawn to names that sound similar to their first child but sometimes it’s because those are just siunds they like, and sometimes it’s subconscious because it reminds them of their kid’s name. It would help to see what the rest of your list is, if you want other suggestions.
I love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] but unfortunately I think the name is too similar to [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. [name_f]May[/name_f] I suggest [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] would create an amazing sibset.
I think they sound nice together. Are you considering nicknames? If so, a previous poster noted possible nicknames that would help them be different.
My girls are [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], nn [name_u]Jess[/name_u] and Mimey. Same first and last letters haven’t been a problem.
[name_f]Susan[/name_f]
It’s a decision your have to make, it’s very close but they are both distinct names and sometimes sibling names to together like that. If you use it I would end it in L because symmetry. Then if you had a third child youd have a pattern there to stick to … Or one child is left out. [name_u]Abby[/name_u] & [name_f]Anna[/name_f] are cute together.
Suggestion is [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] if you’re looking for something similar but different
