Names u love but ur family members/partner hate?

Are their any names you are dying to use but your partner, parents or close family members dislike? There hv been quite a few names I love that my mom immediately shut down. [name_u]Roma[/name_u], for example, I love [name_u]Roma[/name_u] but that was a gossipy old lady when she was growing up :sob:

[name_f]Odette[/name_f] :joy: [name_f]My[/name_f] mother told me that [name_f]Odette[/name_f] is giving pink baby rhino with wings. She told me that she has alwyas felt that [name_f]Odette[/name_f] might be known as a [name_u]Swan[/name_u] [name_u]Lake[/name_u] princess, but actually it’s a rhino name. :joy::joy:

I’m not sure my mum loves my fave, [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]. I asked her not to be judgy before revealing it to her, and her response was a fairly pained ‘okaaayyy!’ which could have been an attempt to remain neutral or an attempt to disguise her hatred. Unclear :sweat_smile:

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] was my first thought too! I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] but it always gets the comment that [name_u]Clemmie[/name_u] sounds like ‘Clammy’.:unamused:

I love [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] style names but my partner doesn’t like the ‘er’ sound.

@synkout every time I’ve mentioned it to family, they’ve all immediately said ‘no, that’s a cat name’ or ‘i can’t see that on a person - it’s only for a cat’ :grin:

@Parfait_de_Roses Haha! I always thought of like a very graceful french ballerina when I heard [name_f]Odette[/name_f] but ig that works too hahaha!

@persephonescrown [name_f]My[/name_f] mom does the same thing! She winces and then goes “Eeeehhhhh” [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] is one of my favs btw.

@tori101 [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is so cute! It was my favorite name at some point! Too bad it doesn’t have a more common better nickname :sob:

@Mary_Rose I like both of those! I don’t see why [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] would be pretentious but then again I’m very naive when it comes to bad stigmas behind names :sweat_smile:

[name_f]My[/name_f] mom dislikes most of my names because she finds them weird or most of the times “old and suit for a grandma” or “for an angry witch”. She made such comments of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] (angry witch, two names I liked when I was younger) and she dislikes [name_f]Ofelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] family or husband have shut down/criticised on different grounds: [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_u]Liberty[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], and [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]. Thinking of this now a friend asked me whether I was really calling my daughter her name (Willa) or if I was going to change it in time before lodging the legal docs. :joy:

my dad cannot stand the name theodore, or theo, and i have absolutely no idea why. he just doesn’t like it. my mom doesn’t like lucilla— she thinks it’s too weighty.

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] & her companion Glory… [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] was dismissed by my little brother as “too old-ladyish” and apparently [name_f]Glory[/name_f] is “too religious sounding” :sob:
