So my baby boy is coming in a couple of days and I’ve already chosen the two names I want to use which are [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m], don’t care in which order but I think I’ll go with [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m] because [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is so cute for a baby but I’ve been having a funny problem, I feel like the two names have opposite elements and energies.
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] which means little seal is a water element name and I associate it in my head with the ocean and snow and the color blue
[name_m]Leander[/name_m] means lion man and it has a bald firy energy and I associate it with bright orange and yellow shades.
[name_f]My[/name_f] baby will be an [name_m]Aries[/name_m] born in the lunar year of the wood dragon so more fire vibes
I know it’s not a big deal that the names don’t match element wise but I’ve been having trouble buying clothes and things for the nursery because I prefer lion images and bright colors to serene blue, tho I like the sea.
Should I just pick a different name with a matching element???
Unless it’s really bothering you, I wouldn’t change the names! I also don’t think you have to match your nursery to the vibes of the name. If you like lion images, use lion images, regardless of whether [name_m]Leander[/name_m] is the first or middle!
That said, despite it meaning ‘little seal’, [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] actually gives me bold red vibes. I think it’s the R initial. [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m] as a combo feels fiery and warm to me! [name_m]Red[/name_m] and yellow.
I think it depends on how much it bothers you? How would you feel about giving up either name? Would you rather the name matches baby’s nursery or be made up of two you love? Is there another that you love enough to use?
If it helps, I know [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] means seal, but it also feels warm, and earthy, and woodsy to me, so it matches in my head with [name_m]Leander[/name_m] well.
And in terms of the seal meaning, I also associate [name_m]Leander[/name_m] with the myth and poem ‘Hero and Leander’ - in which [name_m]Leander[/name_m] has to swim across this straight of water to see [name_f]Hero[/name_f] each night so that links them in my head too.
It really depends on how you personally feel. Edited: I’m for example a big lover of name numerology. I have a ton of names I love etc, but if I was realistically naming my baby, I would cast out names I love in order to get it right according to my belief. So I really understand! I think Ronan Leander is a beautiful combo! I really love it! To me both names feel whimsical, like forest fairy type of names. Ronan definitely feels very warm, woodsy, earthy to me too. I think I associate it with rowans, Rohan etc. And Leander has always felt like a poetic prince name. So actually based on my feelings/ synesthesia something (so not on the meaning), this combo feels golden green
It’s funny because I have the opposite reactions - [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] feels like the fiery, lion name (thinking like [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] I suppose) and [name_m]Leander[/name_m] feels like the softer, blue name.
I also think combining opposite energies is a great idea - you don’t know which type of personality this little one will grow up to have and which name he will gravitate toward more. Your own [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] can shape his own definition and association with the name.
Energies/astrology/etc. mean very little to me, so I’m not sure I’m much help if you’re truly looking to honor all of that, but [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] actually does feel very leonine to me in feel, makes me think of [name_m]Aslan[/name_m] in [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] and little lion cubs and bold bravery. Ironically I love [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m] but I’m iffy about them together; I just think they both have a ton of personality and I feel like either one would take away from the personality of the other - it almost feels too busy in a combo? If that makes sense. I am rather fond of [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or [name_m]Leander[/name_m] [name_m]Rome[/name_m] as similar alternatives. But [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m] sounds great and I feel like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m] suit each other very well.
What about [name_m]Rory[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]? Similar sound to [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], but (at least to me) [name_m]Rory[/name_m] is bright orange and energetic like how you’re seeing [name_m]Leander[/name_m]. Plus, they sound good together.
It sounds good but I am personally not a fan of the repeating R sounds in names.
I agree with it being a tad busy. We used the name [name_m]Leander[/name_m] last year, and went with [name_m]Glenn[/name_m] as the middle name. Seemed like pairing [name_m]Leander[/name_m] with something more common helps ground the name.
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m] is an incredible combo! I don’t see their energies as particularly contradicting.
[name_f]Baby[/name_f] was born yesterday and I used the name
As it is
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]
Congratulations! He has a fantastic name!
Thanks
I’m the same way with certain names. I have an perception of how I see them and sometimes it doesn’t even match the literal name meaning (an example for me is that [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] means fiery but I picture the name with this deep blue / ocean colour to it rather than reds and oranges)
I think the contrast of the 2 names is really nice too. Maybe thinking of the energies of each name and how they balance each other might help you love their differences together. Too much fire is dangerous and too much water can take you over. Having a bit of both is the perfect harmony. I’m not sure if that makes any sense but in my mind the blues of [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] balance out the reds and oranges of [name_m]Leander[/name_m] and make a good mix of different energies (even yin and yang, the good is in the bad and bad is in the good, they balance out and you don’t appreciate the good without having seen the bad)
I would keep [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m] unless it’s really bothering you. I think the sound really nice together and you love them both too! Everyone has different perceptions on names too so it’s not like everyone who meets him will think of lions or seals
I think [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m] is amazing. Congratulations!
