Names with 'grand' meanings?

So, many of you will remember that I’ve been experiencing name regret with my second daughter, [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. Three months on and I’m still trying to make peace with our choice. If I had sole choice she would’ve always been [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and I would still choose that for her. But unfortunately her dad has an equal say and he disagrees, so here we are.

We went hiking yesterday and I spent some time ruminating on the issue and decided it would help to think of some potential future sibling names. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] made for a vintage, botanical pair, but [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] are more linked by their grand meanings - flowers and stars. This makes a lot of my other favourites pale in comparison in terms of meaning.

What other names have grand meanings like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f]? I’m thinking like when the kids are in school and forging their identity, a third child might want some imagery to claim as their own as well.

Unfortunately I don’t want to repeat initials, so favourites [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_m]Forest[/name_m] are out. Some other faves that don’t meet the ‘grand meaning’ requirements are [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_m]Cedar[/name_m] and [name_f]Pippa[/name_f].

Some that I think might meet the requirements?
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] - rainbow
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - treasure
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] - immortal (but no imagery associated so not sure on this one)
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] - bearer of heavens
[name_m]Miro[/name_m] - world/peace (also a tree in my native NZ)
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - golden one (though I can’t get past the pronunciation ambiguity. Perhaps as a middle)

Thoughts, ideas? [name_m]Ty[/name_m]!

So this feels a bit “elements” related to me with the stars being air/sky and flowers being earthy so maybe a water or fire "grand’ name?

I like [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] a lot with siblings [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] feel very fitting with [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] both in terms of style and meaning. The other definitions are lofty and abstract by comparison.

I’m thinking of gem stones and birds. [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] have broad definitions and so they are more aligned to [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and Stella’s meanings whereas [name_f]Ruby[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_m]Garnet[/name_m], [name_m]Malachite[/name_m], [name_f]Dove[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_f]Wren[/name_f], [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], [name_m]Robin[/name_m], [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f] are specific types.

For a boy:
[name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] would be an amazing sibling set! I love that and would choose it for my own kids in a heartbeat! I also love [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], and [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. I’ve never heard of [name_m]Miro[/name_m], but I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], and [name_m]Miro[/name_m] would also be good together.
I don’t think [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] really goes with the other names.

I really like your list - including one of my current faves Emrys, a sort of metaphysical counterpart to the physical earth and stars. I agree that Aurelia might be better as a middle. Atlas might be too close to Stella in terms of letters used for me to use but I like the balanced imagery. For boys though, I prefer Jasper (or Emrys or Miro - though Miro less familiar).

You have some great suggestions, will try to add some new ones but likely some repeats:

Zoe - life
Cordelia - daughter of the sea
Beatrice - happiness
Esmeray - dark moon
Juliet - sky father
Morwenna - waves of the sea
Avery - wisdom (primary human virtue)
Cora - heart
Gwenno - little bright one
Lumi - snow

Austin - majestic dignity
Rafferty - flood tides (one of my fave names!)
Henry - ruler
Alev - fire
Leander - lion man
Henley - high meadow
Griffin - strong lord
Ivo - yew wood, archer
Xander - protector of humanity
Dylan - great tide

Edit: should have added, get it doesn’t matter what I think but I do still see Stella as a beautiful choice. :sparkles::sparkles::sparkles:

I’m sorry that you’re still battling some feelings about Stella’s name. I truly believe she has a magnificient, luminous and enchanting name :star2: :dizzy: :star:

Your list for a third baby is beautiful! All the options are amazing. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m].
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] has a beautiful sound and a magical meaning, associated with hope and diverse stunning colors. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is the goddess of the rainbow, the messenger to the gods. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is also a sweet flower and the name of the coloured part of our eyes.
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is very distinct, charming and enigmatic. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is a very interesting mineral. I love Jasper’s meaning!
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] has a wonderful meaning. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association is the book that collects maps, illustrations and graphs of different parts of the world. Because of that, I associate [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] with the world map and to me [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] grand meaning is “world”.

I also admire [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Cedar[/name_m]. I believe they would be a great addition to your set despite not having such an impressive, strong meaning like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. They still have lovely meanings!

I obviously associate [name_f]Flora[/name_f] with flowers. However, at the same time, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess of spring and, in biology, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] refers to all the plant life found in a particular region or time. For that reason, I understand if you want to eliminate the sames related to any plants, flowers, trees or fruits.
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] has a clearer meaning - star. Would you consider with other names related to the sky or universe? I would probably stay away from names meaning sun, because the sun is a star, but I believe others could work. I think [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] would be great, for example! [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] is also a flower name, so it would share a connection with [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
