Names with high and low letter:syllable ratios

I was just thinking about how my top girl name, [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], has six letters but is only one syllable, while one of my top guilty pleasure names, [name_f]Ionia[/name_f], has five letters and four syllables. Can you think of other names that have either very high or very low letter:syllable ratios? [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is the only other six-letter, one-syllable name I could think of and couldn’t think of any that were seven or higher, and I couldn’t think of anything in the other direction that would beat all the [name_f]Io[/name_f]- names ([name_f]Io[/name_f] is 1:1, [name_f]Iona[/name_f] is 4:3, [name_f]Ionia[/name_f] is 5:4).

I’d guess that there are some Irish names that fit the bill! Curious about those but especially ones that follow English spelling and pronunciation rules!

Not quite sure I understand. A favorite name of mine is [name_m]Maverick[/name_m], which is 8 letters and 2 syllables. So 4:1.

Another favorite, [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], is 8:3

Here’s one:

[name_m]Charles[/name_m]

Here’s one:

[name_m]Charles[/name_m]

[name_f]Aoibhinn[/name_f] !
8 letters, 2 syllables
(pronounced like [name_u]Evan[/name_u] or Ay-veen)

Wouldn’t [name_m]Maverick[/name_m] technically be three syllables?

Sorry, maybe I didn’t explain well: I’m really looking for names that have letter:syllable ratios equal or higher than 6:1 ([name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f]) or equal to or lower than 1:1 ([name_f]Io[/name_f]), 4:3 ([name_f]Iona[/name_f]), or 5:4 ([name_f]Ionia[/name_f]). So basically one-syllable names with 6 or more letters, or names with only one more letter than syllables (or even the same number of syllables as letters).

Oooh, good one! Though maybe borderline - I never can decide if [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is one or two syllables! If it’s one it definitely beats [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] at 7:1.

[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] is 2 syllables. I’ve always heard it pronounced Mav-[name_m]Rick[/name_m], and not Mav-Er-Ick.

In the style of [name_m]Charles[/name_m], there’s also [name_u]James[/name_u] (only five letters but instead of six, but still) and [name_m]George[/name_m]. Oh, and [name_u]Blaise[/name_u]!

Going with lots of syllables packed into a short name, there’s [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], and [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. I can think of a lot more that have two more letters than syllables, like [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], etc, but I’m not sure if those would count.

[name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] are good! I think 6-letter, 1-syllable names aren’t as rare as I thought: I also thought of [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], [name_u]Blaire[/name_u], [name_u]Blaine[/name_u], [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], [name_m]Chance[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_m]Graeme[/name_m], [name_m]Pierce[/name_m]…

BUT! I also thought of a 7-letter, truly 1-syllable name: [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]!

Oh these are good! They also made me remember [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Gia[/name_f], [name_f]Pia[/name_f], [name_f]Sia[/name_f], etc.!

I think I like both of these types because they just strike me as efficient, either visually or orally.
