Names with nature meaning

Looking for a middle name for [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. We are keeping with a theme of nature middle names, but it doesn’t have to be an overt nature name (it can be though!) For example- our daughter’s Middle name is [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (meaning rainbow) and if our next is a boy his middle name will be [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] (meaning where roses grow). Ideas?

Something nice about iris is the history of it
It’s not ‘just a flower’
It’s not ‘just a word meaning rainbow’
It’s not ‘just a Greek story’
And so on… It’s even the beauty in one’s eyes … It’s a lovely name that covers all these lovely things.
Though people often see [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and think ‘oh the flower’
Because of that I will recommend avoiding names like [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]…
That’s one really nice thing about your boys middle choice… It does also contain some great floral imagry…
But isn’t a [name_f]Flower[/name_f] technically… and the similarity between the word roads… Makes for really lovely imagery
So both of those names are really lovely and have a common ground outside of just being ‘nature names’
I think it would be lovely to find another name that’s floral but also more.
Is there any specific quality you are looking for?

[name_f]Danika[/name_f] - morning star
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - star / The story of [name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] - admirable / peace /world/ female ruler/ ocean
[name_f]Talia[/name_f] - gentle dew from heaven / by the water

yes, exactly. you hit the nail on the head and I’m so glad you noticed! that’s exactly what we are going for with these middles, so i was trying to get a little inspiration here to see if people’s suggestions gave me any ideas! i really like the idea of [name_f]France[/name_f]'s middle name having a water connection as we live near [name_u]Lake[/name_u] Michigan and spend much of our time on water in general - I’d love her name to reflect that. I also like the idea of all of our kids having middle names with floral imagery. It seems like a nice connection between them.

[name_f]Talia[/name_f] would from my suggestions I think is a nice water name but lacks in the flower department. But does also have another nature meaning …

Something like [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m] (for a boy) paints that picture of a well wrapped in brambles … Which I feel like is ALMOST there… Water and plant but subtle… I’m not sure it’s quite there though.
[name_m]Talcott[/name_m] means cottage near the lake but that’s quite masculine and aside from my picturing flowers growing up the side of this cottage it’s flower free…

Water only…
[name_u]Brook[/name_u] is a pretty water name
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] means from the sea
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] means pearl
[name_f]Nimue[/name_f] of course is the lady of the lake … Not exactly nature name
[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] actually means lake I believe… Not to be all unique but something [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] maybe something legitimate…

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] / [name_f]Maia[/name_f] is an option…Mayan people, Greek mythology check ‘[name_m]Hermes[/name_m] mother, illusion’, [name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology ’ month/ goddess of spring’, name berry says it also means pearl, work, mother & water… Not really flowers BUT spring! So maybe?

My top pick for you I think will be …
[name_f]Araluen[/name_f]
It means place with water lillies
It’s a beautiful aboriginal Australian name, possibly longer than you were looking for but I quite like it for you so I thought I would highlight of specifically.

I’m most familiar with Hebrew, so here goes:

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Arava[/name_f] (meaning prairie or desert)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] (meaning deer)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] (meaning myrtle)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] (biblical placename)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Illana[/name_f] (feminine meaning for little tree)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rimona[/name_f] (meaning pomegranate)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Tamara[/name_f] (meaning palm tree)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Varda[/name_f] (meaning rose, or rose-like)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Yonah[/name_m] (meaning dove)

My top picks are [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rimona[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f], and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Arava[/name_f].

Good luck!!

I’ve been looking at names of water flowers but haven’t found anything usable. [name_f]Lotus[/name_f] and Waterlily evoke the strongest aquatic and floral imagery but I don’t think either is quite what you’re looking for. [name_f]Nor[/name_f] do they have any other meanings. It’s a tricky one. So I’ve looked a bit further from your criteria for other options. Hopefully their meanings and style is closer to what you’re after.

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] Avonlea meaning ‘river by a field’. I really like this name for you. It has a connection to water, has this dreamy quality about it and sounds so lovely. It’s also the name given to the small village in [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables. The village is based on Cavendish, [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] Island, which is a small rural town by the coast. It’s quite picturesque. I like the link to [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] also being a place name, an island in Greece. I think it also matches the relative popularity of [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m].

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Vale[/name_u] meaning ‘wide river valley’ but sometimes used in poetry as a shortened version of valley. In Latin it can have a few meanings. Probably it’s most common usage is to mean hail and farewell. Romans used it with the intention of seeing the person again, but nowadays its more linked to a significant person passing away so it could perhaps double as an honour name. Not so well known is the actual meaning ‘be well’ or ‘be strong’ from the root word valere. I think it sounds quite beautiful as a middle name all things said.

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] meaning ‘the first appearance of light, daybreak.’ I like that this name has a noticeable connection to nature. But is has more depth I think. It can be symbolic of new life, beginnings, brightness, hope. Visually, the emerging sun and colours of dawn links wonderfully to [name_f]Iris[/name_f]’ meaning as rainbow. Again, style and popularity are well matched to [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m].

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] meaning ‘life’. It also can mean ‘lady of the lake’ based on the Athurian legend. It’s also a great classic name.
