Names you can't make up your mind about!

I’ve been wondering if I’m the only berry with names that I change my opinion about on a day to day basis, or names that I just can’t make up my mind about at all!
[name_f]My[/name_f] biggest one is [name_f]Polly[/name_f] - sometimes (usually after watching Peaky Blinders or reading [name_u]Love[/name_u] in a Cold Climate) I think she’s a darling underused vintage gem; as [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] Mitford put it ‘nothing could be more… wholesome and unpretentious than Polly’; the rest of the time, however, I see her as clunky and childish. I have similar feelings about [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]: sometimes I think she’s an adorable favourite, sometimes I just think about goats. Anyone else have names they flip-flop around about??

Amy. Sometimes it is such a lovely wholesome name, but other times it can remind me of the Little Women character, who was somewhat stuck up when young. (She grew out of it though). I also have a love/hate relationship with Elizabeth. I love it, but I just cannot stand Liz or Lizzie, which the British have a tendency to revert to. I would be taking a risk, as I would prefer Beth, again aka Little Women.

I feel the same way about [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]! I actually think the association to the story of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is so sweet (goats and everything!) but then it does make me think of the word “hajde” (commonly used in the Balkans as a more crass way to say “Come on!” or “Hurry up!”)

Another one is [name_u]Henry[/name_u], which I hated for the longest time, but now I associate it with a character I really like, so I enjoy the name when I’m actively thinking of him, but when I’m not I go back to hating it

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], yes, I know that feeling!

Two that come to mind right now:

Gwendolen/yn - sometimes I think it’s clunky cute, vintage and distinctive - [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] make cute nicknames - and then I look at it on another day and just find it very awkward :grimacing:

[name_m]Roger[/name_m] - it’s got those clunky old-fashioned vibes, strong but soft in sound, a bit rugged, unexpected etc. On the other hand, it’s just very dated and I don’t know if I actually like it or just associate it with a character I like

Sage…it really depends on gender, first or middle spot and my own vicissitudes how I feel about it!

Very popular names such as [name_f]Emma[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - sometimes I see them for what they are and what made them popular, and I love them. On other days they’re dulled by their popularity and I find them boring :sob:

five names that I have an internal struggle with

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] x [name_f]Amy[/name_f] x [name_f]Sofie[/name_f] x [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] x [name_u]Henry[/name_u]

This is me with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! Some days, I love her, but other days I find her far too harsh. Also, [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] - sometimes it feels [name_u]French[/name_u], elegant, international, and gorgeous, with the imagery of ballgowns, designer red lipstick, the opera, glamour modelling and old Hollywood, and other days it just feels too old for a young person. It’s a struggle, for sure!

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. She’s perfect and beautiful, but… dated!? Plain!? I’ve met so many, but it’s such a nice name and it’s so meaningful to me! Ultimately, I love her, but I have my doubts sometimes.

[name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] come to mind right off the bat! Some days I love them, other days I’m so indifferent.

I flip-flop on [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] a lot. It’s darling because of Pride & Prejudice and its lesser popularity compared with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but then sometimes I’m like “no it’s too dated/still overused”
