so I’m kinda curious, there are some names I really hate as first names (Rose, Alice) but love as middle names. is it just me or does everyone have those names that they hate with a passion as first names but love as middle names? if so list a few, I’m curious.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I don’t hate it as it’s my middle name but I would only ever use it as a middle. I just find it slightly uninspiring.
I wouldn’t say I hate this name in the first name spot, but it is a lot better as a middle:
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. It just sounds better as a middle name, every time (and also, I don’t like any of the nicknames for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] at all, and nicknames are less of an issue for the middle name)
[name_f]Theresa[/name_f]
[name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]
Paige/Page
[name_f]Nicole[/name_f]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Donald[/name_m]
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u]
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_u]Addison[/name_u]
[name_u]Riley[/name_u]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_u]Makenzie[/name_u]
I wouldn’t say that I hate any of these names, but there are some names that are honor initials for me that I love in the middle name spot & wouldn’t be that excited about using them as a fn. Such as…
Girls-
Aviva-Love the springy vibe and Hebrew origin. It flows so beautifully with many of my first names, but I don’t like the idea of calling a child just [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] out loud for some reason.
Ariel-I love that this is Hebrew & that it sort of has an animal meaning. It’s really pretty as a middle, but with the pronunciation discrepancies (Air-ee-el vs. Are-ee-el) it would get annoying. Plus, my kitty is named [name_u]Ari[/name_u], so it’s too close.
Bernadette-I love the bear meaning and it sounds fun & spunky in the middle spot. Too clunky for my tastes as a fn though. And I’d hate the possibility of the nn [name_u]Bernie[/name_u] popping up. Not a fan of that for a girl.
Nova-Feels way too trendy for me to use as a fn, but I like the outer-spacey vibe, and it seems more unique as a mn.
Willow-I love the sound & the nature imagery, but something about it just feels too trendy & modern for me to use in the fn spot.
Boys-
Atlas-It’s so whimsical & I love the sound of it in my head, but saying it out loud as a fn just feels so awkward. It’s beautiful in the mn spot though.
Arrow-I’m not brave enough to use this as a fn; just doesn’t feel name-y enough. Cool as a middle though! Also, this is too close to [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
Adrian-This is handsome & charming, but I don’t know why I don’t like it enough as a fn. It flows nicely in the middle for a lot of my fn picks.
Basil-I think that confusion of Bay-zuhl vs. Bah-zuhl is enough to make this too difficult for a fn. [name_m]Handsome[/name_m] for the middle.
Dylan-I think it feels trendy & dated as a fn, but love it for a middle…not sure why the trendy & dated-ness is fine there.
Wilder-It’s too last name-y & wordy for me as a first, but flows nicely as a mn.
Not a fan of [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but I love her in the middle! Ditto [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
oh, I have to agree with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but [name_u]Pearlie[/name_u] is absolutely adorable as a first name.
i would not use it as a first, but i’ve been toying with the idea of thanksgiving as a middle name!! it’s my favorite day of the year, AND has a great meaning, so why not??
I’d call these ‘don’t like as first names for my list’ rather than hate, but…
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Bluebell[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
Stargazer
Seafarer
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_u]Rose[/name_u], [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and [name_f]Hope[/name_f] comes to mind for girls
[name_u]Cooper[/name_u] comes to mind for a boy. I would love to use this, just not as a first name. [name_u]James[/name_u] is another one.
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is the main one that comes to mind.
