Names You Hate

LOL! There are plenty! But, yeah, there is definately a lot of names I really don’t like! LOL!

I hate names of people I personally do not like (think [name]Jessica[/name] who stole my HS BF, [name]Hilary[/name] who is a raging B*()& and others …)! Otherwise, I kind of scratch my head and wonder what some people were thinking when they looked at their beautiful newborn and bestowed upon it a name that was either ugly (to my ears) like “[name]Enid[/name]” or a name that ever other baby in the hospital has been named! I do not look over the 1000th name but why would you want your kid to be one of 20 in a school with that name?

[name]Chloe[/name]- it reminds me of a dog’s name!
[name]Aubrey[/name]- too cute sounding
[name]Ansley[/name]- reminds me of an anus
[name]Gemma[/name]- sounds like a stripper name to me
[name]Caitlin[/name]- I am so sick of I know way too many and I hate all the different spellings of this name!

lol…I’m just sitting here smiling (and totally unoffended, because everyone is entitled to their tastes :)) at how many times the name [name]Olive[/name] came up on some lists. This was a name that I really loved when I first heard it, it’s on my signature. [name]Ever[/name] since finding out we were pregnant, I haven’t been stuck on anything either way, but I’m still considering the name. Anyway, I just thought that was funny to hear such opposite opinions. I’m not a fan of [name]Scarlett[/name] either, and noticed that was another one that showed up on a number of lists. Too funny.

Names that are commonly used as stage names for exotic dancers or porn actresses: [name]Bliss[/name], [name]Brooklyn[/name], [name]Chardonnay[/name], [name]Lexi[/name], [name]Belle[/name], [name]Nevaeh[/name], Belladonna, [name]Destiny[/name], [name]Brandy[/name], [name]Crystal[/name], etc…

[name]Matilda[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Seraphina[/name], [name]Calliope[/name], [name]Bronwyn[/name] or [name]Bronwen[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], and [name]Tallulah[/name]!

What happened to teaching kiddos the difference between “dislike” and “hate?” The whole “hate is a strong word” thing… you know?

Cannot stand, really don’t like, find obnoxious, wouldn’t name a hamster… but hate?

i dont like the word hate, i feel words like ‘hate’ and ‘love’ should be used rarely and honestly! but those are semantics lol and not worth getting up in arms about!
names i dont particularly like are
[name]Sloane[/name] (it has always been a boys name to me and even then it was still a mix of slug and moan!)
[name]Silas[/name] (i dontk now why just dont)
[name]Lucas[/name] (luke kiss is what i see)
[name]Kai[/name] (i live in new zealand where maori words are quite common and spread around and used and kai means ‘food’ in maori. it is common in new zealand to say “lets go get some kai!” or “i could do with some kai!” etc so no to [name]Kai[/name]!!!
[name]Oliver[/name] (the liver part)
[name]Jeremy[/name] (germy)
[name]Norman[/name] (morman)
[name]Evangeline[/name] (so religious!)
[name]Bree[/name] (brie the cheese)
[name]Victoria[/name] (I hear the victory part too strongly)
[name]Clementine[/name] (whaaat? sounds horrible, reminds me or congested throat or a lozenge designed to decongest throats! see this is all just MY head nothing to be taken personally as i have strange impressions clearly!)
[name]Olive[/name] (i love olives! i am pregnant and constantly craving olives! cannot imagine name my child olive! ever!)
[name]Sadie[/name] (the sadist?)
[name]Tallulah[/name] (i call my lady parts tallulah belle jokingly lol! would be awful if i name my kid this!)

there are others that will come back to me!
names that have been mentioned as disliked on here that i [name]DO[/name] like are
[name]Sarah[/name] (i’m 18 and not actually many Sarahs around! it has a pretty sound i think)
[name]Imogen[/name] (my cousin is [name]Imogen[/name], we pronounce it Imm Oh [name]Gin[/name] i think a lot of the names mentioned depend a lot on accent and how different they are pronounced in different accents. someone mentioned it being pronounced ‘imm oh jeen’ which i do NOT like the sound of!
i like some ‘iana’ names. [name]Juliana[/name] is lovely.
[name]Audrey[/name] to me feels like it would age a lot better than [name]Aubrey[/name] i dont mind either but dislike how similar they are and can imagine a dyslexic child having a lot of trouble!

it is funny how names are so subjective! and also how when i meet another [name]Kaitlyn[/name] or [name]Caitlyn[/name] or whatever my heart never sinks or i dont feel dislike i find people grow into and suit there names and give the name its own ‘flavour’ if that makes sense? on their own i can easily dislike names. [name]Atticus[/name] for example! but i believe if i MET an [name]Atticus[/name] i would find they suited the name if you get what im trying to say?

being pregnant i find it a bit of a mindfield with names, what sounds great to me could sound AWFUL to someone else, when on baby naming websites i do try to be careful with what i say about names knowing emotional pregnant woman can be easily offended (as i have been!) on Nameberry though it seems a lot of people arent actually pregnant yet and therefore i come here to get a more rough subjective view than i would on a specific baby naming forum on part of a pregnancy site! here i feel i can put out a name and get honest responces not people ‘trying to be nice’ and its also good to know that there is a DEFINATE to each their own thing going on. if i really loved the name [name]Rowena[/name] and everyone disliked it yes i would rethink it but i have learnt that people on here have suggested things I havent liked either and so you will almost always get a mixed responce! unless someone on here said Jaxyn… haha but the point i’m trying to say is there is a lot of good constructive feedback on here!

Girls:
[name]Millicent[/name] (sounds evil to me)
[name]Abigail[/name] (sounds like she should be churning butter)
[name]Vanessa[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Bella[/name] (So many dogs and kids named this)
[name]Elizabeth[/name] (Zzzz…)
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] (too cutesy)
[name]Scarlet[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] (too cutesy)
[name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Bronwyn[/name] (not pretty whatsoever)
[name]Beverley[/name] (have a horrible cousin named this, we nicknamed her The Beve)
[name]Kelsi[/name] (Bleghh)
[name]Brooklyn[/name] (Thanks Beckhams!)
[name]Annika[/name] (makes me think of a really mean girl for some reason)
[name]Monica[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name] (too frilly)
[name]Sasha[/name] (My least favorite BY FAR! Dislike it on girls, boys, Huskies, whatever…ugh!)

Boys:
[name]Peter[/name] (such a wimpy name…least favorite boys name)
[name]Shane[/name]
[name]Phillip[/name] (soo snobby sounding)
[name]Alexander[/name] (Zzz…)
[name]Thomas[/name] (Zzz…)
[name]Samuel[/name] (Zzz…)
[name]Michael[/name] (Zzz…)
[name]Ben[/name] (Any form of it…Zzz…)
[name]Aaron[/name]
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Miles[/name] (yuck)
[name]Brady[/name]
[name]Brian[/name]
[name]Ryan[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Liam[/name] (Everyone is named [name]Liam[/name] it seems like)
[name]Tyler[/name] (BIG name where I’m from)
[name]Boone[/name] (redneck to me)
[name]Bailey[/name] (Again on too many kids and dogs)
[name]Aiden[/name] and all the others that go along with it

Haha above poster gave me a good laugh! didn’t agree with all of them but with quite a lot! mainly because i dont mind boring names so long as its not MY kid! specially specially agree about [name]Millicent[/name]! what is it about that name!? and even if [name]Liam[/name] wasn’t popular i just dont like the way it sounds to me but i think i must be the only one in the world as it is rising into top tens in so many countries!!!

I agree with your list, to it I add: [name]Alice[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Rose[/name] (any common filler name). I can’t stand [name]Ayelet[/name] and don’t understand it (eyelet as in lace, I-yell-it?). Youneek and Misspelled names. Girls named [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Emerson[/name]. And frankly, that everyone seems to stick to the same 50 or so names. Lately I’m very tired of [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], and [name]Violet[/name]. I could go on and on.

[name]Angela[/name] / [name]Angelica[/name] / [name]Angelina[/name] / [name]Evangeline[/name] / [name]Evangelica[/name], [name]Natalie[/name], [name]Nicole[/name], [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Nancy[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Crystal[/name], [name]Jessie[/name] / [name]Jesse[/name], [name]Leona[/name], [name]Allen[/name], [name]Ellen[/name]

  • est(e) names. I associate the sound with the ending of the word “molest”.

[name]Alexander[/name] and all of the variants, except [name]Alexa[/name].

I cannot stand [name]Patricia[/name], which is my own name, unfortunately. :frowning:

Then there are just the boring combinations like [name]Anna[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]. Yawn.

Some really popular names are boring to me

I really do not like the names
[name]Jessica[/name] - [name]Just[/name] plain boring
[name]Karen[/name]- [name]Just[/name] meminds me of a car
[name]Roxi[/name]- To adulty for an inoccent child
[name]Chloe[/name]- I have seven in my year at school . Reminds me of the Bratz doll
[name]Tara[/name] - Tomato , it reminds me of
[name]Matilda[/name] - Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhg

I’m very picky about my names

Bumpity-bump

Fun thread!

Some names that I can’t stand:

[name_u]Cody[/name_u], [name_m]Clint/name_m, [name_m]Colt/name_m, [name_m]Brodie[/name_m], etc.

They make me think of douchey, obnoxious, narcissistic white boys.

Names with religious connotations like [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], etc.

Masculine names on girls, like [name_u]Tyler[/name_u], [name_u]Ashton[/name_u], [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], etc.

It seems it’s more culturally acceptable to give girls masculine names than to give boys feminine names. Can you imagine parents explaining giving a name like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to a baby boy because “they wanted a girl?”

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]

This name sounds bimbo-ish, juvenile, and trashy to me. I can’t picture any woman over the age of 30 with this name.

[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]

This name just screams, “[name_u]FUTURE[/name_u] [name_u]GAY[/name_u] PORN [name_f]STAR[/name_f]!”

Any name that ends in -aden or -ayden

Names that begin with [name_u]Ash[/name_u]-. This is really common and I don’t know why.

Like somebody mentioned above, [name_m]Colton[/name_m]. I just can’t imagine naming somebody this name.

I feel more justified in my dislike of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] now. I don’t know why I don’t like it other than it sounds so blah to me. And I know a thousand [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]'s.

Two nameberry favs I don’t get:

  • [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because I know 6 little [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s. And each time someone uses the name they think they have discovered an unused classic.
  • [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. It sounds too close to violent.

The usual suspects:

  • [name_u]Aiden[/name_u], [name_m]Bayden[/name_m], [name_u]Jaiden[/name_u], [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], etc. I now know of a [name_m]Rayden[/name_m]. I wish I was joking. When will it end?? I also know a girl [name_u]Hayden[/name_u]. Ugh. Enough. And poor [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] was such a beautiful Irish name. Very sad.
  • [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]. Why? I dislike the unnessary x. It doesn’t sound edgy or hip. It just screams uneducated to me.
  • endings of -leigh. The worst I’ve seen is [name_f]Emmaleigh[/name_f].
  • unnecessary use of the y. Can we institute an extra tax on people who want to saddle their babies with their own stupidity?

But by far my biggest pet peeve is people who don’t put any thought or research into the name. You are naming a human being people!!! I think it’s fine to use the name [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t claim to be surprised that it’s popular. We had friend use [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] saying they had no idea it was getting popular. But it was shooting up the list. So you’ve got to check what the name has been doing the last couple of years. We also had friends use the name Grahme claiming they were using the correct Scottish spelling. Um no, that would be [name_m]Graeme[/name_m]. And you just made up a spelling. [name_m]Just[/name_m] be prepared to explain why you chose the name. Why do people put more thought into buying a car then the name their child will carry for the rest of their life?

I hate [name_u]Grady[/name_u]. I don’t even know why.

Hate is such a harsh word. The only names I could say I possibly hate is a name that is vulgar and obscene.

I think of gravy every time I think of [name_u]Grady[/name_u]…

I honestly don’t have a problem with the word hate; I’m surprised it’s so contentious! I get where people are coming from, but it’s a commonly used term and makes sense in this situation. It’s hard for me to imagine a situation where I’d mention to an acquaintance, “Gosh, I just strongly dislike ______!” I would probably use the word hate in that situation, regardless of how strong my feelings were.

To declare you hate a name that people have loved ones named is harsh. Names are not words. If someone in person said to me do you like ____. I could say, “No, I do not.” or “I do not care for the name.” I do not need to say, “I hate that name.”
