Names you like but have been "ruined" for you?

Are there any names that you like, but someone/something has ruined it for you?

Mine are;

[name]Adolph[/name]- obvious reasons.
[name]Lolita[/name]- child porn.
[name]Isabella[/name]- too popular.
[name]Nicola[/name]- I loathe a girl named [name]Nikki[/name].
[name]Riley[/name]- too unisex.
[name]Miles[/name]- a name of an ex.
[name]Audra[/name]- [name]Audrey[/name] is too popular.
[name]Naomi[/name]- “I moan” backwards [name]Nevaeh[/name] style.
[name]Melina[/name]- Medical term for blood in stool.
[name]Timothy[/name]- MIGHT use it. But my history with a guy named [name]Tim[/name] makes it iffy.

What are yours?

[name]Kai[/name] - ridiculously popular with minor slebs.

Currently reading [name]Lolita[/name] and just realizing how many names Nabokov is ruining for me. Now all I think of when I hear [name]Lola[/name], [name]Dolores[/name], Lo or [name]Lolita[/name] is a man being obsessed with a twelve year old (or so) girl. It’s good book though

Under normal circumstances, I think Twilight would have ruined [name]Isabella[/name] (and [name]Bella[/name]) for me, but when I was allowed to choose my sisters name back in 2002, I chose [name]Isabella[/name] and therefore it feels somewhat less Twilight-y for me. It chose it before it was cool :stuck_out_tongue:

[name]Hubert[/name] is more ruined for me than [name]Lolita[/name].

[name]Laura[/name], which as a name I loved until I met someone with that name who was very … unpleasant.

[name]Esme[/name], because of Twilight.

Scarlettrobin- I like both of them! I didn’t even know esme was from twilight!

[name]Hannah[/name] is such a sweet name, but I met a brat of a child named this.
[name]Levi[/name], husband has a cousin named this.

Wow I did not know lolita was child porn, uck. I think [name]Naomi[/name] is still good but I can’t really think of anything right now.

[name]Sierra[/name] - a girl ruined it.
[name]Cher[/name] - dad’s girlfriend ruined it.
[name]Carlisle[/name] - Twilight.
[name]Esme[/name] - again, Twilight.
[name]Noah[/name] - an okay name, until I got bullied by one.
[name]Ari[/name] - love the nn for a girl, but in the back of my mind, I’ll always think of an ex.

That’s some of mine.

Zoey_Walker- Ugh. It seems Twilight is ruining a bunch of good names!

I love [name]Esme[/name] and did for about a decade before all this Twilight nonsense. I’m having a boy this time, so I’m hoping by the time I get a chance to use this name, pop culture will be on to the “next big thing” and people will forget about it.

Names on my boy list that are ruined: [name]Jamie[/name] (a couple of bad associations named [name]James[/name]/[name]Jim[/name]) and [name]Valen[/name] (my stepfather’s name is [name]Valentin[/name] and in the past few years he’s undergone personality changes that have wrecked our relationship and make this unusable for me now) I’d also feel uncomfortable using the name of anyone I’ve dated, pretty much all my exes had names too commonly used for me to consider anyway.

[name]Valencia[/name] (nn. [name]Via[/name])- my husband hated it, so I let my sister use it on her rat. I regret giving up on it :frowning:
[name]Cain[/name]- [name]Cain[/name] and [name]Abel[/name].
[name]Nash[/name]- middle name of an ex.

[name]Spyro[/name], yes. [name]Laura[/name] was a name I had loved since I was a little kid [I had associated it with [name]Little[/name] House on the [name]Prairie[/name]]… until I met someone who ruined the name for me. [name]Esme[/name] I had heard years before I knew anything about Twilight, when I mentioned I was considering that name everyone kept saying “Oh like in Twilight”. Boy did that piss me off. Those are two names I loved and had wanted to use one day, now I feel like I can’t even use them for a cat, let alone a kid. :frowning:

It’s very difficult to ruin a name for me, but it’s been done. [name]Blaine[/name] was ruined for me because of my eldest sister’s ex-boyfriend.

[name]Riley[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] for a boy but now there are way too many little girls with multiple spellings of this name. It’s gotten too trendy.
[name]Braden[/name] - Too many -aden names, not to mention our friends’ son is [name]Kaeden[/name].
[name]Bridget[/name] - ALMOST ruined. I had a boss with this name who was just terrible. It ruined it for a while but I decided I love the name too much to let that bother me!
[name]Hannah[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my fiance’s exes. She dumped him on prom night if I remember right.
[name]Nicholas[/name] - Ex bf.
[name]Devin[/name] - Ex bf.
[name]Evan[/name] - Another ex, but this one was longer ago, so I may still consider it.

The names I loved have mostly been ruined/made unusable by popular culture, e.g.

Fifty Shades of [name]Grey[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name] / [name]Anna[/name]

I genuinely had all these names on my list before the book/film came out! :frowning:

[name]Forrest[/name] (Gump)
Wessely nn [name]Wes[/name] (My husband despises this guy “[name]Wes[/name]” he works with)

Yeah I love [name]Edward[/name] (family name) and so would’ve used it if twilight hadn’t come out. [name]Anastasia[/name] is wonderful, and now I couldn’t use it :frowning: dang pop culture ruining all the good names :stuck_out_tongue:

I got some now  for me its , [name]Dora[/name], BC of the cartoon and [name]Vienna[/name] it reminds me of the sausages :stuck_out_tongue:

It must be a generation gap but I really can’t get behind old and established name being ruined by a vampire craze called Twilight or a mediocre trilogy named “Fifty Shades of [name]Gray[/name]”. I think any of the names below are perfectly usable and this aversion is kind of ridiculous. I can see if you named your child [name]Renesmee[/name], [name]Cullen[/name] or [name]Christian[/name] [name]Grey[/name] but really the names are fine.

[name]Anastasia[/name] / [name]Anna[/name]
