Have you ever really liked a name for some period of time, thing decided it wasn’t really that good, or you just kinda wore it out?
As a kid I loved [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] and [name_f]Electra[/name_f] for girls, and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] for a boy. In fact, I liked just about any new name I heard.
I also liked random words as names (Candle, Nature, [name_m]Arrow[/name_m], [name_f]Almond[/name_f], Oval, Square, [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m], etc.)
[name_f]My[/name_f] more recent interests were [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], all which are just so so to me now.
so have you ever been interested in some names for a short time, but not much anymore?
These are names I used to like
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariella[/name_f]/[name_f]Mariel[/name_f]/[name_f]Marielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_f]Pomeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Melora[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f]
[name_f]Zuzanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Melody[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] - used to like this a lot when I was younger, about 10 or so. So glad that faded quickly!
[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]/[name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
When I was a silly teenager with a very different taste level, I liked names like [name_u]Tate[/name_u], [name_m]Jagger[/name_m], Kincaid, [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]. I can’t say I like those now. I think it’s fair to say many people’s name tastes get more conservative as they get older.
When I was younger, I loved the name [name_f]Star[/name_f] for a Middle name. Now I see it as kind of trashy, and I would never have chosen it for my daughter. I also loved the name [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], from the movie Down To You. I loved it because I had never heard it before then, and it was unique (my love of uniqueness really stayed strong, even in adulthood). This was well before it was popular on nameberry!
It’s funny how much I used to fantasize about naming babies and I had lists. You don’t ever really know what your kids will be named, even if you plan it all out, because there is always the baby’s father to put in his 2 cents.
I have had several ‘flash-in-the-pan’ type loves over the years. They included;
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Bibi[/name_f] (I still like this a lot actually but I instensly loved it for a few weeks)
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] as sisters
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] (really I was just experimenting with less popular versions of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f])
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Roxanna[/name_f], [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] and [name_f]Roxie[/name_f]
[name_f]Buffy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
And then there’s a few that reappear on my list every now and again, I always like them but only sometimes love them; [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. They’re usually off my list because I find them a bit plain.
Yikes… You know how you see a picture of what you wore ten years ago, even five years ago, and cringe? That’s how I feel revisiting old favorites. Some of my favorites have stuck through time… [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] (Nature names ironically) but I’m glad some didn’t.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first very favorite name was [name_f]Breanna[/name_f], when I was seven. Then fastforward to 8th grade, I liked only K names to go with my name. [name_f]Kaydence[/name_f] for a girl, [name_m]Karter[/name_m] for a boy.
In 9th grade, I liked [name_m]Declan[/name_m] for a boy (another favorite that stuck) Dreavyn for a girl. Cringing.
[name_f]My[/name_f] name taste since then hasn’t been so bad. I did go through a spell in tenth grade when I wanted [name_m]Raiden[/name_m] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] for a boy, and [name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. (I thought that [name_m]Raiden[/name_m] wasn’t as bad as the other -[name_u]Aden[/name_u] names because it started with an R. I was such a naïve name nerd.)
That said, I’m so glad I didn’t get pregnant in high school, just for name purposes lol! I would have been stuck with a little [name_m]Raiden[/name_m] and I would have regretted it so much!
When I was younger, I wanted to have three children. Two girls and a boy. One girl was always [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] and the boy was always [name_u]Cody[/name_u]. (I don’t like those names at all now!) The other girl’s name changed quite often. At different points in time she was:
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Kari[/name_u]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Chyna[/name_f] (I was eleven and A.N.T. Farm had just come out…)
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_m]Britain[/name_m] (I like the spelling [name_u]Britton[/name_u] now)
I used to have a Name of the Week section in my signature, which wasn’t really weekly. I would just change it whenever inspiration struck. These have been Names of the Week:
Yeah. Usually, most names I loved as a kid were “teenager names” (anyone born in the late 80’s- mid 90’s was a teenager), or the names of my babysitters! I loved:
[name_u]Hillary[/name_u]
[name_u]Kimberly[/name_u] “[name_f]Kimmy[/name_f]”
[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u] (inspired by the Suite Life of [name_m]Zack[/name_m] and [name_u]Cody[/name_u] kids)
[name_m]Cole[/name_m] (inspired by the Suite Life of [name_m]Zack[/name_m] and [name_u]Cody[/name_u] kids)
[name_f]Betty[/name_f] (wildcard name!)
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]
Recently, I’ve fallen out of love with these names:
[name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] (surprised I liked this name so long. Now, it seems too trendy for me. Prefer it on a boy)
[name_f]Heather[/name_f] (surprised I liked this name for so long as well!)
[name_f]Avril[/name_f] (on the fence about it)
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_u]Dallas[/name_u]
[name_u]Ashton[/name_u]
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Fawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f] (everyone’s been pointing out the “anal” part, and now I can never un-see it)
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Roxanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] (still love this, it’s just so unrealistic for the midwest USA)
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
For some reason I liked Aeryn! So Tacky and Kree8iv! I now prefer [name_f]Erin[/name_f].
I liked [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and all of it’s variants for about a day.
Other ones:
[name_u]Blaze[/name_u]
[name_u]Flame[/name_u]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Noa[/name_f] (I now prefer [name_f]Loa[/name_f], brings up the essence of Polynesia, [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is just tacky)
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u]
Branagh
Broegan (I still kind of like it)
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]
[name_m]Pehr[/name_m]
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
(All of my boys favourites stuck, the above are all girls)
I go through name crushes all the time. Most recently [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Iva[/name_f], [name_u]Isa[/name_u], [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] AND all the international variations of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]: [name_f]Lisbet[/name_f], Elsabet, [name_f]Elisaveta[/name_f], [name_f]Liisi[/name_f]. I still like [name_f]Liisi[/name_f]. When I was really young my name crushes were Atreyu & [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] (I still like [name_m]Bastian[/name_m]).
