Names You Love that No One Else Seems to Like

I have a few of these lol

[name]Hilary[/name]
[name]Apollonia[/name]
[name]Sidra[/name]
[name]Prisca[/name]
[name]Taryn[/name]

[name]Geordie[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name] (only Nameberries like this)
[name]Dresden[/name]
[name]Croix[/name] or Kroy (pronounced like St [name]Croix[/name], not the French [name]Croix[/name])

Show me your list!!! =)

I am not totally in love with this name… Yet(; its [name]Carter[/name] but for a girl

I really love the name Kella for a girl, it’s one of my guilty pleasure names. Not really sure how it would be received, afraid people would automatically assume the name is supposed to be [name]Kellie[/name] or [name]Kelly[/name].

You’re kidding! I love [name]Hilary[/name]! Nice to know someone doesn’t think of Mrs. [name]Clinton[/name].
I like [name]Winifred[/name], [name]Dorothy[/name], [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], Macalester, and a ton of other vintage names, but these are ones that people seem to hate the most.
Also, I love a ton of uber-popular names, such as [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], and [name]Ava[/name].

[name]Frederick[/name] is my uncle’s name and I would have considered it if he wasn’t currently using it. I also met a baby at a LLL meeting named [name]Frederick[/name].

I like [name]Taryn[/name] too–that’s my doula’s name.

I love [name]Appoline[/name]! Also [name]Holiday[/name], [name]Arden[/name] and Rudolph

[name]Andromeda[/name]!

[name]Florence[/name]. I absolutely love it, and it has many personal and family connections for me, but people on this site seem to hate it and I don’t think the “outside world” is much different, especially with all the [name]Isabella[/name]'s and [name]Emma[/name]'s running around. I don’t get the dislike, though. [name]Just[/name] can’t see where it comes from.

[name]August[/name]. Suddenly everyone on here changed their tune but when I first started posting, [name]August[/name] was not well received. Everybody preferred his over-the-top (in my opinion) counterparts, [name]Augustus[/name]/[name]Augusten[/name]/[name]Augustine[/name].

There are many others but those are my top two that I love and everyone else seems to loathe.

Nobody seems to like “normal” names on here, so basically anything I like, no one else likes. Lol

Oh, man. This is totally the thread for me. Sometimes I think no one likes any of my favorite names but that’s because I live with my husband who thinks my names are “weird.” But here are some that have gotten me a turned up nose more than a few times.

Girls:

[name]Agatha[/name]
[name]Dolores[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Frost[/name]
[name]Blodwen[/name]
[name]Antha[/name]
[name]Bowie[/name]
[name]Emerald[/name]
[name]Faina[/name]
[name]Zosia[/name]
[name]Fable[/name]

Boys:

[name]Bastien[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Bowman[/name]
[name]Zebediah[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Virgil[/name]
[name]Vernon[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Frank[/name]
[name]Bran[/name]
Strider
[name]Gunner[/name]

[name]Persis[/name].
I just looove that name…

[name]Cassandra[/name] - everyone seems to think of this as dated, but I’ve never known anyone with the name so I don’t have that association.
[name]Demelza[/name] - apparently this is a Disney witch/ugly step-sister type name. I just think of beautiful Cornwall and the Poldark books.
[name]Sylvia[/name] - I understand the dated feel people get from this (I used to, as well) but she is my favourite Pankhurst by a million miles.
[name]Poppy[/name] - love this as a middle name, but have seen a lot of comments that it’s too cutesy and insubstantial.
[name]Holiday[/name] - I doubt I’d ever use this, but I love the sound and the connotations. Seen as overly frivolous, which I can understand.
[name]Thyme[/name] - as a mn. The sound is awesome and the herb is historically symbolic of courage, but a little too odd for most.
[name]Charity[/name] - unfortunately often perceived as tacky. I adore the sound and the meaning is inspirational.

[name]Asa[/name] - absolutely adore this, but so many people say it’s too soft/sounds like a girl’s name. Nn [name]Ace[/name] gives it a masculine boost, though.
[name]Douglas[/name] - again, dated/dad name to most people.
[name]Bradley[/name] - okay, so I would never use this, but this name has so many amazing connotations for me. It just makes me happy.

My guilty pleasure name is Aubryn, which I know (without even asking) that most berries would find very terrible and trendy, but I can’t help it!

I also adore [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name] (they’ve been favorites for years) so I hope that by the time I get around to having kids the popularity has died down.

I can’t think of any more specifically, but I tend to like more ‘normal’ names so I guess I’m the minority over here.

[name]Olga[/name] (I kind of understand, it’s very … hard. However, I think it’s so sweet and I’d love for people to like it as much as I do).
[name]Maude[/name] (I do not understand this one. It may be because it’s pronounced completely different in Danish. We pronounce the au like the o in “over” rather than like the a in “all”. I think it’s so beautiful and romantic looking).

[name]Amaury[/name] (again, I think the problem is the pronunciation, but after having heard the real French pronunciation, you can’t not love this name).
[name]Archibald[/name] (too old-fashioned? Maybe, but I think it’s better than [name]Archer[/name], [name]Archibald[/name] is charming).
[name]Akiva[/name] (not sure why people dislike this one either).

Haha I love [name]Dresden[/name], but you are right, nobody else seems to! Other boys name, including [name]Thatcher[/name], [name]Adair[/name], [name]Theron[/name], [name]Roux[/name], [name]Alasdair[/name], [name]Cadell[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name]

Pretty much my entire girls name list isn’t on anyone’s favorites! [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Lavender[/name], [name]Corisande[/name], [name]Odessa[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Annika[/name] (Awn-icka), [name]Amabel[/name], [name]Amoret[/name], [name]Cadeau[/name], [name]Araceli[/name], [name]Araminta[/name], [name]Saffron[/name], [name]Jubilee[/name], [name]Hadley[/name], Keltie, Mhairi, [name]Vionnet[/name], [name]Valencia[/name], [name]Waverly[/name], etc etc etc

Boys:
[name]Milo[/name] - Yes, I know there was a dog named [name]Milo[/name] in a movie. I still think the name is usable.
[name]Dallas[/name]
[name]Roger[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] - I get a lot of grief from RL friends about this. They say it sounds “too Southern,” which makes zero sense to me.

Girls:
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]London[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]

Heh heh, kibby, [name]Annika[/name] is a gorgeous name and [name]Waverly[/name] is one of my guilty pleasure names.

[name]Thatcher[/name] was also mentioned and it’s on my boys list (i have a long list and short list for girls but far fewer, so only one list, for boys).
[name]Beatrice[/name] I really like, long/medium list contender  but none of my friends or family would ‘get’ it.

Girls:

[name]Ursa[/name]
[name]Zosia[/name]
Pema
[name]Vivian[/name]

Boys:

[name]Ulysses[/name]
[name]Ralph[/name]
[name]Orsen[/name] (everyone thinks I should at least spell it [name]Orson[/name])
[name]Lynn[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]

ETA: Meelo

[name]Marlo[/name]. It’s been my number one for a long while and it’s just recently been vetoed by my mother, sister, and boyfriend.

I think maybe Burr, out of my list. Those I’ve mentioned it to aren’t impressed, and I can kinda understand why (sounds like ‘ugh’ or a spiky thing froma plant). But I love it none-the-less and am convinced it was the precursor to all the trendy Bears around now!

greyer & morganalefaye - I have met a couple of young Florences and Douglases and they’re definitely growing in popularity where I am, but still considered classy and unusual. Hope that’s good news!

missusaytch - I know a Lazarus and plenty of Georges (I like George!) but more importantly, when I heard of a baby named Zebedee I was in heaven. It’s awesome!

kibby - love Hermione, HP or no HP.

frustratedauthor - nurseries in the UK are filling up with little Milos, Jaspers and Scarletts.

2 pp - Zosia - not come across that name since at college with a Polish friend, always thought it was lovely. Thanks for putting it up here.
